Chess Discussion The beauty of a quiet conversion

I used to get thrills out of games that led to outright tactical spankings and subsequent, substantial material advantages.

These days, especially after experiencing the frustration of countless blown leads (or at least perceived leads), nothing comes close to the satisfaction of quietly and soundly putting the squeeze on someone following a small lead. No tactical spankings required, just clean, clinical follow-through.

It feels almost more rewarding than a comeback.

Who feels the same?

Cheater gets banned I got my elo back since all of my opponents cheated

I had an ancient account(Ayushman_Oakley), back then i only knew how pieces moved. Saw one guy who got banned, and saw, sheesh, he had 99 accuracy in almost all games. I was surpised seeing im 585 elo in the old account where i was a noob. So many cheaters yet chess.com handles them perfectly i am impressed. The image shows the recent games of one of the banned accounts.

Chess Improvement How do you stop tilting after a bad loss instead of queueing again angry?

My biggest rating killer is not any single weakness, it is that after a frustrating loss I immediately play another game while still annoyed and play worse, then chase it, and lose three more. I know stepping away is the answer, I just do not do it in the moment. For people who got their tilt under control, what actually works, a hard rule like stop after two losses, a short break, switching to puzzles? Looking for something practical because willpower alone clearly is not cutting it for me.

Chess.com Website/App Question Is there any way to keep this style?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I've had it since last october and I never changed it beacuse it wa sa seasonal style and because I liked it...now with the cryptid unlockable style I was thinking of finally changing it, but I fear I won't ever have the chance to get the halloween set back because it doesn't appear in the sets category...is there any way to keep the set and use the cryptid one for a while?

Chess Improvement Does anyone know how to beat this bot?

Post image

For the life of me i cannot beat zach, every time i manage to get down into an endgame and get all his dangerous pieces off he always ends up a piece ahead and checkmates me. Any ideas?

Chess Question How much time do you put into openings versus everything else?

I think I fell into the trap of memorizing opening lines because it feels productive, and then I get taken out of book by move six and have no idea what the plan actually was. My middlegame and endgame are clearly weaker but I keep defaulting to opening study because it is easier. For people who actually improved, roughly how did you split your study time, and at my kind of level does deep opening prep even matter yet or is it mostly a distraction?

Miscellaneous Conditional Move Etiquette in Daily Games?

I only recently discovered with my husband the app feature allowing conditional moves on daily games. I have never had an opponent use this on me before this recent discovery, but now my husband and I use this feature in our own daily games.

I now have an ongoing daily game against a stranger where I believe it’s a forced mate in a few moves, and I was thinking of conditionally moving since I know where he will be forced to go in response each time until checkmate. But I wasn’t sure the etiquette on that—is that considered mean or rude to do?

Chess Improvement Streaks

Does anyone else go on insane winning or losing streaks? I feel like all of a sudden I just cannot win a game after steadily climbing over the past month. This last week I just keep losing in awful fashion and I can't shake myself out of it lol
