Bad TLM Experience

I got invited to a TLM in someone's house where an old woman lived who was a close friend of the one that invited me. She usually brings in a priest to do confession in her guest bedroom and mass in her emptied-out dining room because she has a lot of trouble walking and no transportation. I initially was having a great time. They were nice, I had a lot of good social interactions with them about the faith before things got started since it was just 4 of us. It was wholesome, and I couldn't keep the smile off my face. I am a Novus Ordo raised Catholic, but I have always had a soft spot for TLM and learning Latin. I expected things to be normal, but it seemed like the priest noticeably rushed through everything up to his sermon.

That's when things got accusational. The smile completely wiped from my face and turned to shock and confusion as he spent 10 straight minutes lying about Vatican 2, complaining about modernism and how he thinks the main objective was to fully integrate with the secular world, claiming we teach that all faiths lead to God when I know for a fact we explicitly believe still that Christ is the only mediator to God. Saying our "heresies are unjustified and do not coincide with the Catholic faith."

Not a single bit of any reflection on scripture or application to life, just prejudice and deceit. He then immediately went back and started to consecrate the host.

The presence I felt in the room was absolutely gut-wrenching beyond belief. I immediately had to think of an appropriate time to get up and leave because it felt as if a distant voice was yelling at me saying "Don't take the host. Get out now."

Something was very wrong. I felt weak and I didn't want to get up off my knees but I knew I had to. I said "I'm sorry, I have to leave." and left the house in the middle of it.

The one who invited me there told me that he got even worse about it when I left. I don't know what I did wrong for him to suddenly be that way but it just made me feel like it was a personal accusation of heresy towards me or an attempt to make me feel like i dont belong and it completely distracted me from the mass.

It wouldn't have made me as angry if he didn't start with the lies right before consecrating the host. Like I'm sitting here thinking he actually just tainted it right in front of me, there's no way I'm taking Communion now.

I'm not saying this is how all TLM is, and i still love TLM just as much as Novus Ordo, but in this instance by itself, for lack of better terminology, it felt like he essentially decided to piss on my head and tell me it's raining when I just came there to worship God.

Can we please treat using AI art in Catholic YouTube videos as a sin

• Upvotes

First of all, there is so much great Catholic art that has been made by real human beings over the past 2000 years that you are neglecting in favor of kitsch AI thumbnails.

Secondly, I think that there is a real and true danger of at least sort of ‘commoditizing’ the faith and at worst pushing would-be converts away with these Catholic YouTube videos with AI art, especially those with clickbait titles like: “You need THIS from your guardian angel”

I have no reason to keep going anymore

Since I became a Christian, my life has been keeping to fall apart.

I have tried to become the man God wanted me to be, to the point where my sin disgusts me, but the fact that i am unable to flee from it made me spiral down into depression, and i don't really see a way out.

I am alone, terribly alone. God keeps giving me people just to take them away after i get attached to them, so i suffer my loneliness even more by remembering when i was happier.

A couple weeks ago i was in my bed crying, praying to God to either fix my life or take me out in my sleep, so i wouldn't have to suffer anymore. However, i'm still here, maybe because in His "incredible plan" that He has for us, i'm supposed to be the useless pawn to be sacrificed in order to win the game.

The worst part is that, from a non-believer, my life looks like a joke: i could get stupidly rich by doing unethical things or scamming people without even getting in trouble, i could get drunk every weekend, go to bed with a girl i don't even know and forget about her the very next day. I could live in sin and my life would get fixed almost istantly, but i choose not to only because there's a little something in me, which i learned to call "Holy Spirit", that refuses to give up.

However i don't know for how much longer i will be able to keep this going.

I just want to be happy, Jesus.

can i be an fx makeup artist?

Hey guys, so I’m a makeup artist. I specialize in special effects and characterization (zombies, wounds, cuts, etc) Is there any Catholic teaching that says I shouldn’t or can’t do it? I use my artistic talent to glorify Christ, and the stories are short films where there are fights or non-human characters, there is fake blood involved when its cuts makeup, but on characters like mermaids obv not

No response from church after starting process for Dispensation from Canonical Form

I, a Catholic, am getting married in my fiance's United Church (of Canada) in December. The only family I have attending is my brother, and we were hoping to do a Catholic marriage blessing service in my home country with my mother and extended family in February. I contacted my church to ask about either a convalidation or dispensation from canonical form in September to enable the United Church wedding, and after being given the wrong directions re: how to proceed for about a month, was finally connected with the Parish Priest who told me that we should apply for a dispensation, and asked us to meet with the assistant pp to start the process. We did so and he filled out the form with us. We had a few outstanding documents, so he said that, while we were gathering the documents, he would email us the link to the course and we could get started.
We've followed up three times by email requesting it and sending all the outstanding documents. We've also called twice, with no response. I finally sent an email to the Parish Priest, and that has also had no response. We were hesitant to approach the Parish Priest on Sunday after mass with this as he seemed busy.

We're at a complete loss at to how to proceed. We're running out of time and with no response from the church, we can't plan for our trip. My mother is also really upset that she may not get to participate in a church blessing with us.

Does anyone have any advice as to what we can do next? Would it make sense to contact the diocese and let them know that we've contacted the church and started the process and are now stuck with no response?

SSA/LGBT Catholic Questions

Had a few questions for anyone that has experienced same-sex attraction or identifies as LGBT. The experience has been incredibly painful for me in my life and I am tired of being so alone in the world because of it. My only hope is currently in the Lord as the only person who really knows me.

  1. Are there other people out there that have wrestled with their faith and sexual orientation/gender identity? I would love to talk to someone about it.
  2. Is there hope for me to be a father one day? All I have ever wanted was to raise a family in the faith with someone I love.
  3. Has anyone that identifies this way found a partner/spouse that shares the same values as you?
  4. Does anyone have any experience with mixed-orientation marriages?
  5. Lastly, has anyone that identifies as trans found a place in the church? I want to introduce someone I know to the faith.

Did Paul struggle with his salvation?

I'm not sure how else to ask this, but reading Phillipians 3:10-14 sounds like he's not fully confident in whether or not he will attain his resurrection. If that's the case, it makes me wonder why people don't bring it up when discussing different views on obtaining salvation.

Confirmation & Previous Marriage?

I have done some research on this but keep getting different answers - I do plan on speaking to my priest on Sunday!

My husband and I are on week 7 of OCIA and have been attending mass. We are confident in the church and feel very strongly that this is where we belong. That said, my husband was married for a very brief amount of time (less than a couple months) when he was about 18. The marriage was annulled, there was infidelity (not on his part.) and he has not had contact with her in over a decade. My husband is my first marriage.

I am a bit anxious over this process and just confused on what we need to do so that we can proceed with confirmation and being a part of the church. Has anyone been through something similar? As I said, I will be speaking to our priest on sunday but I know it would be helpful to speak to anyone in a similar boat!

What do I do

So I'm feeling worried. I'll cut ho the chase.

I was at work and someone was talking about a time when they were at an event but the food had ran out and people were wondering were more would come from. Suddenly mire food started coming as people brought it. They were talking in a religious sense kinda like a parable . My coworker said "oh like as and you will receive".

A totally fine statement. But for some reason I felt annoyed when my coworker said that.like a feeling of negativity towards that. Why would a cowroker quoting sceipture annoy me. What does this mean. I don't want to be annoyed by God or people talking about him. I've been making an active effort to pray more and I do feel closer to God than I used to. But if I get annoyed when scripture is brought up or even God is brought up what does that mean

I'm trying to stay calm. Afterall God can fix this in me but I want o know what steps I can take to co operate with that.

I love God, at least I hope. I know once I recognized the feeling I immediately rebuked it but yeah any advice appreciated

Edit: to clarify I felt annoyed at the "ask and ye shall receive" part

Life Advice for a Non-Practicing Catholic

i have this paraprofessional counselor where i live tell me he was Catholic.

he in unmarried, has a child, has the child and mother of his child living with his family, and is not thinking about marrying her, although he calls her wife. he has a sizeable nest egg close to 50k. they don't go to church.

now, i'm pretty hardcore. tonsure, living in poverty, daily mass, and i've never felt better, as someone has coined it Christ Consciousness, i do feel much closer to living the life of Christ by turning away from all sin and preaching the good news.

if he told you he was Catholic and said all this, what would you say to him to help him understand what it means to be a Catholic?

if i were him, which would be very hard pill to swallow, i would give the 50k to my son and his mother so she could start a nest, make myself right with God, and ask her, if she is also getting right with God, to marry me.

What would you recommend? What should a Catholic do?

What do you think happened here at church? (Kept on getting light kicks/stubs from behind while in line for communion)

• Upvotes

This happened some time ago, but today I heard of a situation that oddly reminded me of this incident I had at a church.

The area and church itself weren't known for any altercations. I was in line at a communion, when this large guy, he looks about 6'3+ was behind me. He looked about late 30s at the time. Whenever we walked, he his shoes would stub into my tendon heel area, or kick the back of my shoe.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking he was just very large and it was a close-knit area, however between splitting and shuffling, I ended up behind him walking, I looked at his shoe and it was not making any contact with the other guy he was now behind.

I wanted to ask him what was going on, but he seemed extremely pissed off at me, and seemingly storming off with his dad or some older family member. His face looked normal until he noticed I was close.

That said, I thought it could had been my attire to church. I never wear sweatpants, but that day, somehow, I thought I would swing by church without changing as it was the last mass. The other theory is that maybe I was not supposed to be getting communion, so the holy spirit was angry?

Facing persecution due to my personality in Christ. How to endure it? Any saint for intercession besides Holy Mary?

I have always endured unfairness and persecution from people. I talked about it with a priest once, and He told me it is most certainly the Devil's work as I grow stronger in my faith.

I want to know if there is any saint I may seek intercession. I thought of Saint Archangel Michael, but he seems to me more like interceding in blatantly demonic attacks like possessions, temptations...

Circumstances Preventing Reliable OCIA

I am completly new to the faith. My eyes were opened after 20+ tears of living in not right with God and being protestant and going back and forth. I try to pray the rosary daily but I am disabled with no access to a veil, physical rosary, icons or transportation to the OCIA in a church near my house that will not change for the forseeable future. My question is their possibility of OCIA for disabled or low income circumstanced people to come to Mass?

Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Protestantism all seem convincing to me. How do I discern the truth..

Hi guys, I am taking this here because, I'm not really sure what to do..

For Context: I was raised non-denominational.

I've been learning about the different Christian traditions (Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Protestantism).

I was ultimately convinced of Catholicism but I realized I was comparing the strongest Catholic arguments to the weakest of Orthodoxy and Protestantism.

After researching strong arguments from all sides, there is genuinely a strong case each one especially regarding the Papacy.

Papal infallibility and supremacy weren't clearly articulated in the early Church in the way they were at Vatican I. There was a Roman Primacy for sure, but it doesn't look like Infallibility or Supremacy in the way Vatican I defines it.

Now, I do understand the case for the Papacy, that Primacy developed into Vatican I, but that's something that we can't really prove, but it also makes sense. I can see how that development can happen.

I think all cases are strong,

Example of a Protestant case is Assumption of Mary for example, the first time the Assumption was ever spoken of was the Book of Mary's Repose. Which was a Gnostic text. Many early church fathers never taught or held to the Assumption up until, the late 4th or 5th centuries. Even Apostolic Succession, there was no third office we call "bishop" in the early church, it was two. It was Bishop/Overseer and Deacons. That was it. So it doesn't seem to be truly apostolic but rather later developments.

So, it seems the case for Protestantism is strong as well. (I know I haven't listed much evidence but I'm not looking for a debate. I'm not asking for a refutation or more arguments. Just advice really)

But if the Papacy is true, then it wouldn't be a problem to believe these. If the Papacy is true, then the Catholic Church is true and everyone should be Catholic. There just isn't enough evidence to know if it's true, and there's not enough evidence to show that it's not. It's just endless argumentation that ends up leading.. nowhere.

I'm really stuck in a loop here, all three cases are strong. I prefer Catholicism personally, even though personal preference shouldn't be a deciding factor. I love the idea of Confession, I truly believe the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ (Which some Protestants believe too) I love the beauty of the Church, the Rosary. The Vindicatory Miracles (Fatima, Eucharistic Miracles, I find extremely compelling). I really do love and prefer the Catholic Church. If I was a Protestant I'd be a Lutheran.

I am quite afraid of choosing incorrectly, I feel something in the back of my mind saying, Orthodoxy is true, but then another thing saying Protestantism is true, and another thing saying Catholicism.

I really don't know what to do. Thank you for reading

looking for prayers

• Upvotes

I don't frequently struggle with rage, but recently I lost my temper and it resulted in my losing my livelihood and facing charges. I am miserable. I am lost.

I am sorry if this is not the right place to post all of that. I am also sorry for not knowing how to title this post. I am just looking for some prayer suggestions, like the Litany of Humilty has been a really good one...

Thank You.

Is all suffering righteous?

I’m not so sure. Some suffering just seems to destroy and bring no grace. I mean look at Vincent Van Gogh’s death. What grace is there in that? The man’s own mind tortured him to death. I have major depression and the pain hits so often and so severely that I really can’t see how a loving God would put anyone through this for a lifetime. It’s like a death every two weeks
