Adding to the starter kit Hey cat owners! I need advice QUICKLY!
This is jellybean, and she came into my life VERY SUDDENLY! Legitimately walked onto my family’s front porch, VERY STINKY BABY! I think she has an eye infection… not sure I’m going to try and see about getting her an appointment for it asking my parents, hopefully! But I need to know! KITTEN SUPPLIES AND CARE! I think she’s about 6-8 weeks old, she’s very thin but I know some basics, kitten food, some toys, a collar, but what else? I need to know kitten safe shampoo and flea treatments, what works best vs doesn’t, I need a lot of help! So please help my little girl!
EDIT: I am going to talk with my parents about getting her to the vet and will tell them about the whole flea treatment issue! Thank you for brining this to my knowledge!
EDIT TWO: as of 6am here I have talked to my mom, she is taking baby girl to the vet, I may see about getting her some kitten formula because she is SO INCREDIBLY thin, my mom doesn’t know if she will make it, knowing her already she’s a fighter, I’m praying for the best!
UPDATE!:
“She has ringworm and it will take minimum of 30 days to recover so she will stay quarantined until then. It IS transferable to animals AND HUMANS!
We will also treat her for worms (just in case), probiotic for her tummy in case the meds affect her negatively and antibiotic for her upper respiratory illness. Her heart and lungs are healthy. We will also be able to bath her with Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo but can not treat specifically for fleas. The baths will help though” that’s what my mom said!

Better to treat infections early, especially on her face. Vet will probably prescribe clavamox if so. It's not that expensive. More importantly, you should check that she is spayed and make sure she is if not. Unfixed cats are a huge hassle and have worse health outcomes on average.
A collar is unnecessary unless you let her outside. Likewise with flea treatments after the first. A cat tree or shelves would be good, since cats love to climb, and many scratchers.
Looks to be about 2 months old. General rule is the number of pounds equals the number of months of age, though she is likely underweight. That's when they start to be self-sufficient, though a fellow cat or kitten would also be good. Look up single kitten syndrome for more on that subject.

Very much under weight! But I’m planning on fattening her up (putting meat on her bones to be healthy NOT overweight)

Wet cat food for kittens and you can wash her face with a warm cloth until you can get to the vet but do that as soon as possible. Thanks for rescuing this cutie 😻😻

Congrats on the CDS choosing you, OP! Nice job reaching out for help to get her all set. Definitely get her to the vet and follow their advice. The only thing I’ll add is that if you do flea treatment it needs to be a specific KITTEN dose/formula and base on her weight, as others can be toxic for kittens.

I am definitely not an expert but you can do a basic wash with dawn dish soap for the fleas. If she’s really tiny and skinny, I’d just make sure to use warm water and dry her quickly! You don’t want her to stay cold

It works for head license too. The grease cutting feature also destroys eggs!

At 6-8 weeks, the kitten is likely past being weened and can eat wet food. Kitten glop is great for additional, easy-to-digest calories. I’ve long since lost our recipe, but this is roughly similar:

Best of luck.

My latest CDS kitten gave me ringworm. I thought it was Lyme disease so I was pretty relieved at the ringworm diagnosis. Fortunately it is easy to treat. My vet didn't tell me to quarantine her, I guess since I already had ringworm and my other cat absolutely refused to interact with her. Good luck with your new baby, I'm sure with a little bit of TLC she will be just fine.

Oh my, she is beautiful.
Ringworm is horrible but she will recover. Just follow the vet’s instructions closely. Quarantining them is very important.

We’ve treated ringworm Kittens before. Very important keep her quarantined but also keep yourself safe. use throw away gowns and booties and gloves when you handle her and anything in the room that she’s in. I kid you not ringworm can be really severe in a person. And if you’re at all immunocompromised, you need to be very careful. That said, bless you for taking in this baby with all of her medical issues but she’s going to be beautiful. Also, I think she’s a little bit older than you think. With those ears she’s got to be closer to 3 to 4 months old. What did the vet say?

Just showing up here - if you have concerns about whether you might contract “ringworm” - you can wash your body / hands in Nizoral shampoo, which has Ketoconazole (antifungal agent) as its medical ingredient

I've never had a kitten because my
cats showed up full-grown lol
I've seen the kitten lady on youtube recommended, kmr kitten formula, and original dawn for bathing to kill
fleas. Do not give cow's milk. When they're little, you have to stimulate them to use the bathroom. Your kitten might be old enough for solid food and able to use the bathroom on their own. Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in.
There's kitten and fosteranimal subs that might be helpful to crosspost.
Congratulations on your new baby!!

put a ring of soap around her neck when you wash for fleas bc they will run towards her head without it. the soap around the neck catches them and kills them. also for ringworm treat everyone else in the house for it bc you can get just by touching the cat and it's common for owners to get it from cats w it.
