π¨ Trigger Warning π¨ Drove 600kms overnight (solo) to a dear friend's funeral. (Renault Triber appreciation post) [OC]
One of my closest friends recently offed himself. I received the news at about midnight and he was to be cremated by 1:30PM the same day. Unable to get a flight/train/bus/taxi at a moment's notice, I found and booked a new Triber via Zoomcar. A base model with about 21k kms on the odo.
Drove 600kms solo overnight from Bhubaneswar (Odisha) to Bhilai (Chattisgarh). Set off at around 3AM and reached at 12 Noon, battling intense rain throughout. Was able to accompany my dear friend on his final journey.
The Triber took on pothole-riddled and rain-soaked concrete highways with ease. I was flooring it at all times and did most of the trip above 90kmph. Hit midsize speedbump sets at speed a couple times at night (the headlights are weak); not a problem, the suspension shrugged it all off. Also survived a close call when a truck suddenly stopped in front of me just outside Raipur (Capital of Chattisgarh). I was at about 95kmph. Braked and swerved from the inner lane to the outer with inches to spare (I could literally see the truck's bumper beside the driver's window as the Triber was mid-swerve) and somehow this thing neither flipped nor I lost control.
The suspension (after all, the french do know their springs and struts well) and handling are surprisingly good for a car in this budget. Hell, I feel the Triber's suspension (lightly laden) is much better at dealing with broken roads at medium-high speeds than the so-called FWD SUVs which cost 50% more than it.
Without the Triber, I would've been unable to see my dear friend one last time. Also, I can now truly relate to what Jezza feels about the Porsche 928.
I'm seriously considering buying the Triber as my first car now. Yes, the driver's seat is uncomfortable for me (I'm 6'1, but can be rectified easily with a driving cushion), the headlights are crappy (again, can be fixed with aftermarket stuff) and the oil sump is made of plastic, but I will never forget that it kept me safe all along that 9 hour drive through torrential downpour, at risky speeds and across treacherous roads. I owe you one, Renault.
Check on your friends, guys (especially men). Depression isn't readily apparent, ever. Sit with your friends, prod them to spill what's troubling them. Go the extra mile if they try to be distant. Be with them when they feel helpless.
You might just save a life.

π¨ Trigger Warning π¨ Brand New Tata Sierra (Hyperion engine) - 3 breakdowns in 1200 KM, repeated Christmas Tree dashboard errors and no diagnosis yet. Help!
I recently bought a new Tata Sierra with the Hyperion engine, and unfortunately my ownership experience so far has been extremely concerning.
Within the first ~1200 km of ownership, the car has already broken down three times, and the service centre still hasnβt identified the root cause.
I wanted to document the full timeline here to get advice from the community.
βΈ»
Breakdown #1 β 720 km (Family trip)
The first incident happened while I was on a trip with my family.
When we tried to start the car, it refused to start completely and the dashboard lit up with multiple warning lights β basically a βChristmas treeβ of errors across the instrument cluster.
I had to call Tata RSA, and the car was towed to the nearest service centre.
The vehicle stayed there for a couple of days, after which I was told that the starter motor had failed and was replaced.
The car was then returned to me.
βΈ»
Breakdown #2 β 1062 km (5 days later)
Just five days later, the exact same problem happened again.
The car was parked at home, and when I tried to start it, it again refused to start with the dashboard lighting up with the same multiple system malfunction warnings.
The service centre sent a mechanic to my location.
Interestingly, he manually pulled the flywheel, after which the car suddenly started.
He then drove it to the service centre for further investigation.
This time the car stayed in the service centre for about a week.
I was told that senior technicians and even the Pune plant team were consulted to diagnose the issue.
However, after a week, the only component that was replaced was the battery.
I was told the battery was likely the root cause and the issue should now be resolved.
βΈ»
Breakdown #3 β ~1200 km (next day)
Unfortunately, just one day after getting the car back, the exact same problem occurred again.
The car once again:
β’ Refused to start
β’ Displayed multiple warning lights across the dashboard
β’ Showed the same βChristmas treeβ malfunction symptoms
At this point the vehicle had barely crossed ~1200 km.
βΈ»
Current situation
The car is currently back at the service centre again.
So far:
β’ Starter motor replaced
β’ Battery replaced
β’ Vehicle towed
β’ Senior technicians reportedly consulted
Yet no clear root cause has been identified.
βΈ»
Why this worries me
For a brand new car:
β’ 3 breakdowns within 1200 km
β’ Major starting failure
β’ Multiple system errors on dashboard
β’ Parts being replaced without solving the issue
This makes me worried that the problem may be something deeper in the electrical system, ECU, wiring harness, or starting system architecture.
βΈ»
My questions
I would really appreciate advice from the community:
1. Does this pattern suggest a deeper electrical / ECU issue?
2. At what point should a customer ask for vehicle replacement instead of repeated repairs?
3. What is the best way to escalate such cases with Tata Motors corporate?
4. Has anyone seen similar starting failure + dashboard error combinations in Tata vehicles?
βΈ»
Final thought
I canβt undo the purchase of a Tata Car, please donβt bash me on that. Im already very tired.
I bought this car expecting a reliable ownership experience.
But after three breakdowns in 1200 km, itβs honestly hard to feel confident driving it.
Would really appreciate the communityβs advice on how to handle this situation.
Could you help me get reposts on this X post please-

π¨ Trigger Warning π¨ My βΉ10L Car Purchase Just Saved My Baby's Lungs β Here's Why
I regretted buying my Maruti Fronx (βΉ3L down, βΉ7L loan) until last week's Panvel-Nashik trip changed everything.
The Wake-Up Call
Stuck in traffic behind diesel trucks with my 1-year-old daughter and wife. Thick black smoke. Zero visibility at night. Construction dust everywhere. Windows shut, AC on recirculate.
Then it hit me: What if we were on a bike? or what if some other family was stuck in such situation who cannot afford a car.
Fellow Parents: Consider This
If you're debating a car purchase with young kids:
- Indian highways = pollution hotspots (trucks + construction)
- Heavy-duty vehicles are the main source of vehicular pollution, especially on routes like Panvel-Nashik
- Your child's health > monthly EMI anxiety
- A car isn't luxury it's a mobile air purifier
The Bottom Line
I went from financial guilt to grateful relief. That Fronx isn't just transportation but it's my daughter's respiratory defense system.
To parents still deciding: Factor in what you're protecting, not just what you're spending. The loan ends in 5 years. Lung damage doesn't.

Saw many uninvited guests inside my car bonnet.
Due to heavvy rain they sought shelter may be.
Actually, I regularly see Mr.Rat π as uninvited guest but this was new for me.
I used HIT Spay now, seems like it worked. Any idea how to control these guests in future?
For Mr.Rat i already tried: Rat spray, wet & dry tobacco, CarCat device (may be it is working - i dont see rats cutting wires now)

π¨ Trigger Warning π¨ Cars24 / Spinny strips off all goodies before selling the car ahead
If you see my post history, you will see that I sold off a decently well done and well kept 2018 Baleno RS while I got a new car. Now this Baleno was technically bought by the dealer but later I got to know that Cars24 / Spinny was the actual buyer behind the dealer. Months passed and I got the transfer details from RTO via an SMS alert making me relieved that the car is actually transferred.
Couple of weeks later I found the cars safety triangle and tool kit along with a lot of other stuff so I call the new owner and offer to send it. He thanked me and offered to come pick it up some day. Anyways, some time goes by and I get a call from him today in panic that the car will just not start. Battery dead. I don't exactly remember the date of buying the new battery but it wasn't old or out of warranty. It should be either working or eligible for a full replacement. I ask him to check for the warranty card and bill which was all in a large Maruti leather folder along with the owners manual and full service history including every bill. I had it all - Bills for tyres, alignment, battery, accessories like speakers, damping done to doors and all of it.
This is where the twist comes - This was never given to the new owner. The battery? Changed. He was given some old battery where the manufacturing date had been scratched off. Battery was also smaller than recommended. Of course it died. I'm surprised that it lasted this long. I knew these guys try to make the monies from every single corner but this is pure evil.
I really want to see my old car to see what all has been stripped off.
PSA: Either don't buy from Cars24 / Spinny or if you do check for everything and check again. Do exactly what they do when they come to check.

π¨ Trigger Warning π¨ Tata Nexon defective since day one of delivery, still unresolved after 4 years and 20+ service visits
I need to share something that has been extremely frustrating for my family. We bought a Tata Nexon and it has been defective from the very first day we got it. On the day of delivery itself, while we were driving home, the vehicle broke down completely on the road. We were stranded for nearly four hours with no food and no water, and the check engine light and fault codes were already showing within the first few kilometers.
Since that day, this same issue has never actually gone away. The check engine light keeps coming back, and multiple times while driving, the vehicle simply would not accelerate even when the accelerator was pressed. This is a genuinely dangerous situation to be in on the road. We have taken the vehicle to the Tata Motors authorized service center in Bhimavaram more than 20 times for this exact same problem. Every single time, we were told the same thing by different managers and mechanics over the years, please do not file a complaint, we will fix it for you. But it was never actually fixed.
The vehicle's own official service record shows it has only run about 13,005 kilometers in more than 4 years. It has not even completed its first major service interval because it has spent so much of its life sitting in the workshop instead of being driven.
We paid Rs 15,560 for an extended engine warranty valid until August 2027. Despite this, three ignition coils and an entire electronic management system have been replaced, costing us over Rs 20,000, and the fault still came back. The most recent bill, which fell inside our warranty period, was marked as warranty expired and we were charged in full anyway.
Just a couple of days ago, on 31st July, the vehicle broke down again on the road. This time it turned out the workshop had left the battery wiring improperly connected from an earlier repair. They have now told us they have ordered another part, though we have not even discussed the price yet.
At this point we are completely fed up. We cannot keep spending our time and energy taking this vehicle back again and again just to get it patched up temporarily, only for the same or a new issue to show up soon after. This has been going on for over 4 years and we simply cannot continue this cycle any longer.
We have kept every bit of evidence for this, videos, photos, job cards, and invoices, from the very first breakdown until now.
I am sharing this so other people are aware before they buy this vehicle, and so Tata Motors takes this seriously instead of letting it drag on for years the way it has for us.

π¨ Trigger Warning π¨ Talk me out of Buying Jimny Spoiler
I always wanted to buy Suzuki Jimny not because I am a very hard core of road doing person but I like the idea of having it as a dairy driver. it is a very practical car and the fact that it can go anywhere really excite me and it does have a very long history to supported and very label engine as wel.
Really confuse between syros, seltos and Creta and Jimny.
