4months unemployed rejected a job offer (right decision or not?)

Im 4 months unemployed. I took a 2 and half month break just to enjoy myself (pinag sisihan ko ngayon slight) then started looking for a job for 1 and half months now. Im starting to get desperate cause even though im 1 half months looking in truth ive been 4 months unemployed. And im at the stupid stage kinukumpara ko sarili ko sa mga kaklase kong may job.

I was interviewed for a position I thought I would like, but as the application process progressed, I became less excited about the job. Although I'm really desperate, I decided to decline the offer despite the good pay and benefits.

My reasons:

  1. During my interview, the head repeatedly mentioned that the job was difficult and not easy. The second interviewer mentioned it again, as if they weren't enthusiastic about hiring someone for the role or couldn't believe I was applying for it. I already knew the job would be difficult and challenging.
  2. HR mentioned that it was a fast-paced environment.
  3. The job contract had a non-compete clause.

4.The job contract stated that I was expected to perform other tasks for the business from time to time.

5.There were no clear performance criteria for regularization.

6.The company had terrible reviews on Glassdoor.
Im expected to work significant “over time”

  1. My duties and responsibilities was not clearly stipulated in the contract

Is this the case for other job? Ganito ba talaga? Did i made the wrong decision? As someone working what are the red flags in job applications/interviews/offers I should really look out for??

Is it normal for a company to provide the employment contract only on Day 1?

Hi! I would like to ask for advice, especially from those working in corporate companies or HR in the Philippines.

I recently received a job offer from a company, and the recruiter told me that I would only need to sign the job offer for now. The employment contract would be provided on my first day of work.

Is this a normal practice in companies? I’m a bit hesitant because I would prefer to review the complete employment contract before resigning from my current employer.

For those who have experienced this:
Did your company also provide the employment contract on your first day?

• Is signing the job offer enough to secure your employment?
• Would it be reasonable to request a copy of the employment contract in advance?
• Should I be concerned if they won’t let me review the contract until Day 1?

I don’t want to overthink things, but I also want to make sure everything is clear before making a big career move.

Would appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

How can I set myself up for a successful career while I'm still in college?

I’m in my fourth year of college and will be graduating next year (PUP).

For those who are already working, what would you recommend I focus on while I still have time in college? What skills should I develop, what experiences are worth pursuing, and what can actually make a fresh graduate stand out to employers?

I know I can't figure everything out this early, but I want to be intentional with the decisions I make now. I'd really appreciate any advice on what I should start doing, what I should avoid, and what you think matters most in the long run.

HMO Entitlement

• Upvotes

Hello everyone!

Meron ba sa inyo na yung HMO, if you resign, idededuct nila sa final pay mo yung pro-rated na amount for the remaining months ng fiscal year? Kaka renew lang ng Oct 2026 then nag notify samin ang HR regarding this policy this Oct lang rin

Normal practice ba to? And what if gamitin ko hmo ko before i resign, additional charges ba to ulit sakin? Haha no idea eh.

Thanks everyone.

Can I get hired even if I refuse to use AI for my CV/resumes?

• Upvotes

First and foremost, I would like to say that I do not hate AI. I just feel like I have become heavily reliant on it to the point that I can no longer think for myself. So, these past few days, I started to completely avoid using AI, and I started reading physical books to sharpen my mind.

Now, I know that most private employers are now using ATS and AI to screen CVs and resumes. And I will be starting to send out my resumes again, using an old-fashioned way: without the use of any AI.

I'm just curious if there could be any chance na mapansin ng HR or makalusot ang resume ko sa ATS without tailoring my resume with the use of AI?

Salamat po!

Got laid off after only 2 months

It’s been a stressful week for me. This kind of situation is new to me since I had been in a long years of stay from a previous employers. Yes, I am one of the people changes a career path, hoping that I will grow on this— but this happened :( Leaving my prev job (10years) for this company— somehow felt like a betrayal and scammed. Offers and benefits were good. We have agreed on this as a full time job. But, eventually— HR told us that client have to pulled out from our company not because of our performance, but for restructure purposes that made our positions, redundant.

On a snap of that moment, I find myself as jobless in an instant. How sad is that? Im feeling so lost. How did u manage this feeling? I really needed a job, especially this Christmas season, I have so many plans for my family, for myself. Why? Is this really allowed, like, they couldve give us atleast 6 months for this job.

I hope no one will experience this kind of frustrations, sadness and confusion.

Jump or Stay?

Hello, my company right now is culturally perfect for me. The workload is sometimes stressful but not always. The pay is average 1 year exp having 29k base. Should I jump after having 2 years exp? My goal is to have an increase and salary progression.

Ex ad agency peeps, what careers did you switch to?

I’ve been thinking about quitting my job lately. I’ve been working as a copywriter at an advertising agency here in the Philippines for three years now. While working from home is a perk, I’ve been questioning whether the job is still worth it.

TBH, the salary isn’t that great. Lately, I’ve been feeling more physically and mentally drained. My boss is toxic, and the management tends to micromanage. I feel burned out, and no matter what I do, I can’t seem to shake the feeling that I’m just tired of everything that comes with my job.

I’ve been thinking about switching to a career that’s less mentally demanding, something that doesn’t require me to push my brain to its limits every day. The problem is, most of my work experience is in the creative industry, so I’m not really sure what other career paths I can explore.

I’ve tried applying for jobs outside my field, but I keep getting rejected because I don’t have relevant experience. It’s frustrating because I really want to try something different, but I feel like my current experience is limiting my options.

At this point, I’m not even sure what kind of job I want anymore. I just know that I don’t want to keep feeling this way, and I want to find a job that pays fair, gives me room to breathe, and doesn’t leave me feeling completely drained at the end of the day.

Should I take certificates online to boost my CV as someone with no extracurriculars?

Hello po! I am a third year student and recently, I have been experiencing dilemmas on whether I would get a job as soon as I graduate. For context, I have been a consistent honor student since high school up until college but the problem is I do not join any organizations or extracurriculars. I have been overthinking a lot lately due to the missed opportunities that I had and how it would negatively impact my career, especially na I was looking forward to land a job agad after graduation. As of now, I am taking the bookkeeping online program in TESDA and planning to take the assessment test soon even if my course is not business related.

Are there any suggestions that you can give po? And if ever, are there legit and reliable online courses other than TESDA?

Is it okay to decline a 6 working days or am I being too selective?

I’ve been unemployed for 4 months now and I’m being careful about my preferences as I don’t want to take any jobs just for the sake of being called “employed” when there’s a possibility that I would only regret it later because I was forced or don’t like the job.

I can work hard but I would prefer to have at least 2 rest days to recharge, and have time for myself for the sake of my mental health. At the same time, I’m worried that I am being picky.

Is it better to take Tesda Bread and Pastry or accept a low salary baker role?

Hi, 27 here and recently resigned without back up plan May 2 choices ako now:

  1. Take TESDA NCII Bread and Pastry - scholarship 'to. My mom volunteered to cover all my expenses kasi I just resigned 🥹

  2. Accept a job from a small, local bakery - P350 lang per day and 4 days pasok per week. I told them wala akong experience sa baking, pero may degree naman in HRM and they said they'd train me.

Nag-try na 'ko mag apply kung saan-saang agencies, Makati, Pasay, Cavite, pero they always turn me down kahit entry-level baking job hanap ko 😭 One agency said
na they're looking for either experience or with certificates daw from TESDA. I'm torn between the two options kasi nahihiya ako sa nanay ko kasi I used to live independently na pero sasaluhin niya ulit ako. At the same time, hindi rin ako masusustain ng baker role na inoffer sakin kasi super baba sahod pero at least ‘di ako magiging burden sa nanay ko masyado?

Is TESDA worth it ba or mas okay ang hands-on experience? Thank you po sa sasagot! 🫶🏼

Upskilling for a fresh BSABE gradute

Hello! I am a fresh graduate with a BS in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering major in AB Process Engineering. Due to a documentary delay, I wasn't able to apply for this year's licensure exam (ABELE), so I am using this time to enter the job market and focus on upskilling.

My target career path is in R&D or chemical laboratory research, specifically centered on agricultural waste valorization, bioproduct extraction, or post-harvest processing. I also have research experience in nanotechnology from my undergraduate thesis and OJT.

For those working in these fields: what technical skills, industry certifications, or software tools should I prioritize to build a competitive edge for entry-level roles?
