Is shared design between budget and high-end bikes just pure cost-cutting?
Hey everyone,
I've been thinking about how so many motorcycle manufacturers design their budget or mid-range bikes to look almost identical to their top-tier, high-end models.
For example, look at how the smaller KTM Dukes look so much like the bigger Super Dukes, or how lower-cc sportbikes copy the exact styling cues of 1000cc superbikes.
Obviously, it gives budget buyers that "premium feel," but from a manufacturing standpoint, is this just a massive cost-cutting method?
I wanted to get the community's thoughts on a few things:
Does platform and design sharing across tiers ruin the exclusivity for people who pay big money for the flagship models?
Do you think Indian buyers prefer this visual upgrade, or would you rather have unique designs for lower-displacement segments?
Aside from shared body panels and switchgear, what are the biggest areas where you feel companies cut corners on the budget versions?
Curious to hear your perspectives!
