CULTURE Diaspora

Cameroonians living in America:
Do you feel American, Cameroonian, or both—or simply Cameroonian living in America?
Do you feel more connected to American politics and culture, Cameroonian politics and culture, or both?

This is an interesting question. It all boils down to cultural adaptation. You will never be really American nor Cameroonian anymore, you will just suffer and try to navigate that in between state and filling that come on goes telling you that you are part of the culture today and not part of it tomorrow.

For whatever reason you decided to immigrate, that choice was yours and you’re just going to bear the cultural dizziness of your decision.

At the end of the all what matters is people you are surrounded by, loving people who make this cultural dizziness go away.

Speaking to myself.

For the time I spent travelling across the US, I got the sense that the older folks leaned and connected more with Cameroon than the US. Probably because they are pushing retirement and would prefer to return home.

The younger people cared less about both but would adapt to what was appropriate for the moment.
