Question Craft Recordings box sets?

I recently got an email from Craft Recordings, which prompted me to visit the site and browse the store. I was going to snag a 5-CD collection of Monk, but I was indecisive and it sold out before I could pull the trigger.

Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone here has bought any of these sets and could comment on the quality. They had similar sets of Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins, and they were very inexpensive - about $18. Maybe they will restock them.

Collection A real gem from Archie Shepp. Under Impulse label and in comoany of a bunch of cats like Ron Carter, Bernard Purdie and many more he crafted this album filled with Gospel, Spiritual and even bit of Free Jazz.

Collection Gloria Coleman Quartet album was a real piece of jazz. Pola Roberts and Coleman herself just invited Grant Green & Leo Writh to craft this pure gold. On Impulse!

Fave Jazz CD Box Sets?

One of the best things about jazz CD's is box sets which are often well-mastered and well-packaged, with extensive liner notes and photos and bonus tracks. I also like how box sets often put recordings in chronological rather than album order.

With that said, here are some of my fave box sets.

  • John Coltrane, The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings
  • Miles Davis Quintet, 1965-69
  • Miles Davis Quintet, The COmplete Live at the Plugged Nickel 1965

What are yours?
