Before you share your first post here, please familiarize yourself with this subreddit’s rules. Rule #1 is especially important: this subreddit DOES NOT serve as an alternative to the kind of medical care and advice your budgie can only get from an avian vet. If you have a budgie medical question or concern, talk to your avian vet instead of posting here! Also, be sure to read this subreddit's wiki--odds are very good that your question has an answer in one of the wiki articles! (We usually remove posts that ask about something that's answered somewhere in the wiki to keep the clutter to minimum here.)
Also remember this is a pet budgie subreddit that encourages rescue and adoption and strongly discourages breeding.
This is a place to share cute budgie pictures, videos, and stories, but it’s also a place to learn more about budgies. There are many times when someone will post a picture, video, or description, and you might notice something that isn’t best practice for good budgie ownership. It might be a cage that’s getting dirty, or some overgrown toenails, or something like that. Even if that issue isn’t the main reason for the post, please bring that to the attention of the original poster (OP) in a supportive and constructive manner so OP can be made aware of a better way of doing things.
Likewise, OP might consider proactively addressing things in their post that a typical budgie owner might be concerned with if they don’t know all the facts. It might be something as simple as, “Don’t worry, this was before I cleaned their cage” or “I’m taking them to the vet next week for their nail trim.”
This is a great way to share information from the Wiki in a very effortless manner, and you are all invited to do so! We used to have just a few summons, but the list has grown enough that we compiled it in this part of the wiki. You should check it out!

Some rules:
We encourage you to share pictures! Just make sure they are accurate to the situation and don't break the rules in the sidebar.
Remember: this subreddit is just one of many possible places to make a budgie connection. Also consider FaceBook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, other online communities, as well as real-life bulletin boards in public places. See all the previous weekly posts (that have content) by clicking here.
Our wiki also has a list of parrot rescues you could check out - whether you're looking to adopt a new feathered friend, or have to surrender one due to life circumstances. If one of these rescues is near you, please consider reaching out to them!

My last post about playing with my budgies helped me understand them more.
This is Baji, the one who was playing with me in the aforementioned video. I was trying to see if she was in the mood to play again (like she does every day, and like earlier that day when this video was taken) but she responds differently sometimes, like she is doing here.
Now I get that she’s not wanting to play here as intensely as she usually does, but when she doesn’t like me approaching her, she just moves and I back off. So I’m wondering what it means when she’s just sitting there letting me play with her beak a bit.
I always stop immediately when I see this, but this was the first time I tried a bit longer to see how she’d respond.
Anyone have any thoughts as to how she’s feeling here? Could she just be frozen or does she just not care enough about what I’m doing.

My sweet girlie. You fought so hard and were recovering so well. Unfortunately it was just too much for your little body to handle. Boba and I will miss you so much. Say hi to Kiwi bird and continue to be your sassy self. Love, mommy 💓

im still waiting for their vet appointment, but in the meantime any guesses on their age or gender?
first photo left Quinoa and right Latte
also any tips would be appreciated, their previous owner told me they dont eat fruits or veggies 😢
any advice on how to get them to start trying them ?
tyyyyy!!

ive had my budgies for almost 2 months now and i’ve tried so many ways to feed them veggie chop. i tried just putting it in their bowls and hanging fresh leaves but they would never touch any of it. i took a break from veggie chop and started a fresh batch which i took lots of time making and i put a bit on a stainless steel dish at the bottom of their cage (not under any perches so they can’t poop in it), and i actually caught them eating!
i’m so glad they’re finally enjoying it and at least getting a bit in their system. has anyone else had trouble with veggie chop? let me know your tips!

Clyde(and my other boy Baby) is taking antibiotics! My vet said i can put it on a treat if i wanted, But i want to give them a direct shot down their little beaks.. So i know for sure its in their bodies helping them get better!.. even if they're crabby at me for it.
Anyways i made it dark so i could scoop em up easy, and Clyde slipped away and dropped his tail feathers! Sorry Clyde!!!! Finish your molt scruffy and grow them tail feathers back.

I think my girly here has a pretty unique colour and was wondering if anyone here has a burb with similar colours.
If you have a budgie that looks similar, please share a picture of them in the comments. Winner gets a lemon!

Hey everyone!
Just wanted some second opinions for my baby. His name is Pickle and he’s 9 months, and I’ve noticed pin feathers for the past few weeks- but I noticed there’s a bit of a bald spot on his head a few days ago. The first photo is a before, and the second is the bald spot in question.
His activity levels are the same (very energetic, of course) and he’s getting along with his cagemates just fine. I’ve also ruled out plucking since it’s on top of his head. I’ve just never seen budgies be a bit bald while molting, is it normal?
EDIT: I was not trying to scare him or do anything uncomfortable for him in order to take this photo! The other bird in the second photo was just bickering over the little piece of millet.

They are brother and sister I think, they always fight eachother over food and the girl (blue) never lets him eat while it’s in the container in the cage every time he goes to eat she runs over and bites him, there not the play full like budgie they never want to leave the cage and when they do they never ever jump on my hand without food I don’t get it.

My little space chickens have decided that the air vent where heat/AC come through is a super fun place to hang out, and have even begun picking the paint off of it.
I’m monitoring them for signs of toxicity (lethargy, regurgitation, etc) and may end up taking them to their avian vet for a tox screen just to be safe. For the moment, they are behaving perfectly normally.
My question is: can anyone recommend a budgie safe air vent cover that still allows the air to flow through? I’ve been pursuing Amazon but thought this community might be able to offer some guidance as well. Thanks so much!
PS cute borbs tax 💕💕

Hey everyone, first timers here,
We've taken them to the vet, read everything in the FAQ and tried to follow everything listed.
They come from a household where children would grab and taunt them, desperate to interact with the birds.
We just want the birds to live a happier life, not thinking about taming them. They (understandably) don't interact with toys in the cage, even shy away from them [cage dimension: 154cm (W)x 48cm(D)x 93cm(H)], and don't really interact with/groom each other, they've just started to peck each other over food, before it was only minor squabbles, although the bowl is wide enough for them both and there are 2 other smaller bowls.
One bird has it rougher with broken/torn out feathers, less able to fly, but can hop from perch to perch. And she's just much more frail, shows all signs of stress, but appears to be doing better every day?
Current question:
Should we separate them as the cage has a divider? (I haven't done so as I read it's common for minor squabbles over food, and the fact that they've always been together)
Any other suggestions to make their lives better would be great!
