Question His motorcycle accident/lawsuit when he was a kid

He spoke of the accident in some of his live concerts and the legal suit that followed. Is there any record of whom his lawyer was? Pretty random I know lol! Feel free to DM if you don't want the name out there.

The 1994 shelved album

So parts of this album was released on tracks two, but I’m really intrigued about this history and what was to come of the album. There is very little information about this album out there and we don’t really know the full album sequence that was mixed and ready to put out (Nothing man, Father’s Day, one false move where all recorded for this album - which appears in another version - we haven’t had these released yet) or even the proper title - which has been either rumoured to be ā€œwaiting on the end of the worldā€ (as Shane Fontayne stated) and ā€œthe farewell partyā€. I also wonder if they got to a point where they even did artwork etc. Any insight at all? It’s fascinating to wonder how this album would have been received at the time

I must be the worlds unluckiest Springsteen fan

I've been watching quite a lot of reaction videos on YouTube recently, people checking out Bruce for the first time. Fun stuff to watch, then I go and read the comment section and every video I see the same comments over and over and over again.

"You've got to see him live, he plays 4 hours every night" "He plays 3-4 hours every night" "Never plays less than 4 hours" "I saw him in (insert year here, bonus points for giving a year when he wasn't even touring) he played nearly 5 hours" "His shows can last 5 1/2 hours"

On and on and on, the same claims, and it got me thinking. So I headed over to mybosstime.com (great website) and checked my history. I've seen him 38 times now, going back to '88 and the absolute longest show I've ever seen was the last night of The Rising tour at Shea Stadium in 2003, and that was 3 hours 20 minutes. In nearly 40 years and almost 40 shows I've never witnessed a 4 hour show despite it being a nightly occurrence. Pretty much every time I've seen him it was 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

So what's the deal? Am I the unluckiest Bruce fan in the world....or is there a significant portion of the fan base who are bullshitters/clueless/not blessed with the ability to tell the time.

With a handful of notable exceptions, is there a bigger myth in music than "Springsteen plays 4 hours every night"? And can we get a sense of perspective and put an end to it?

Discussion What is wrong with Reddit and Bruce?

I’ve recently contributed to a thread on r/AskReddit where people were asking to name the best ever singer songwriter. You can guess what my answer was. I was genuinely surprised - or should I say I wasn’t - when my post went largely unnoticed. No upvotes, a single comment, then a downvote who brought it to 0 for a while, now it’s back to 1.

My karma isn’t really the point of this discussion though; the thing is, I really cannot understand why Bruce gets ignored so much by Redditors. I’m following quite a few music-themed subreddits, and he rarely gets mentioned, in just about any kind of discussion. I mean, you can like him or not, but we’re talking about one of the most popular musicians in history. So why is he neglected so much in here?

Coming back to the thread I mentioned: whether you appreciate his work or not, Bruce is a consensus all-time great when it comes to singer/songwriters. He’s right up there with the Dylans, the Cohens, the Prines, you name it. His body of work is recognized and celebrated all over the place. And yet people were giving more upvotes to guys like Freddie Mercury, Elton John or Michael Jackson. Don’t get me wrong, I worship those guys, but how can you put them ahead of Bruce in songwriting?

Hence my question: why doesn’t Reddit like Bruce Springsteen? Is it because of his political views? Is it because of the themes he writes about? Is it generational - but then, again, why would the same people appreciate McCartney and Stevie Wonder and not him? I mean, he’s not some kind of obscure niche artist, he’s a major rockstar who’s been around for half a century. So why is he shunned so much on this platform?

Greatest Hits outtakes

So what's the story with this. I've followed Bruce is Loose on YT and there seems a steady flow of unreleased tracks being uploaded. I've also seen people on the Springsteen Collecting FB page sharing images of vinyl or cd releases of the 1995 session. This seems to be the first significant release of bootleg studio material in decades. Does anyone have a full list of songs that are part of this new material? I saw on another thread that Father's Day had been uploaded then removed. I'd love to hear that as I love the SoP Sessions from Tracks II.

Any info appreciated!!

though BTR came out in aug '75... it sometimes took 2 months for a magazine to print a review of an album. this one of "BTR" came out 51 years ago today in NY magazine. before BITUSA came out in the 80s, i wrote to some of the rock critics who'd panned the album or were as snide as this guy was..

...to see if they'd changed their minds about either bruce and BTR. i only got a response from one critic who wrote back and was completely embarrassed by his initial (bad) review. the guy who wrote this review in new york magazine, never responded.

How many Springsteen songs could you recognize by just what he looks like while singing them?

Credit to u/Cappy_Hamper for the original question in my previous thread. The recognized song was "Born In The U.S.A." and that's probably the most obvious answer. Any others? Maybe "Prove It All Night" with the intro solo? "Because the night"? "The River" for it's kind of stillness?

Question Is Bruce waiting until the midterms result to announce 2027 shows? Thoughts?

I guess maybe the title of the tour is dependent on the results…

Bruce Springsteen performing "Born in the U.S.A." to nearly 100,000 people at Slane Castle in 1985. A girl is carried out of the surging crowd.

This is from Bruce Springsteen's infamous 1985 concert at Slane Castle in Ireland. The crowd was so overwhelming that Springsteen himself later recalled fearing somebody would get killed and that it would be his fault.

I recently made a 12-minute archival documentary reconstructing what happened that day entirely through original footage and recordings. This performance is just one part of the story.

Great little (not new) article about Bruce and depression. We all can experience depression; it doesn’t seem to care about tax brackets or zip codes. But I really like Bruce’s approach to handling it.

LOHAD Tour - Boston cut?

I’m going to get greedy, but I think they recorded both the Philly and Boston show from the last tour. Think we will get the Boston cut released as well?

Again - I know I’m greedy.

Proof that Bruce Springsteen playing "Hungry Heart" live is magical (Madison Square Garden and Sea Hear Now)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

46 years ago today, Bruce Springsteen released 'The River'. There's something truly special about witnessing the Boss play the double album's lead single "Hungry Heart" live - mainly because it turns into a massive sing-along, like it did during his Madison Square Garden show back on May 11 of this year (as seen im the first half of the clip). The only thing more magical than seeing a sold out crowd in the world's most famous arena sing that song at the top of their voices was hearing the crowd at Sea Hear Now in Asbury Park do it back in Sept 2024. Though that particular moment was made even more special when Bruce went into the crowd and handed a guitar pick to 4 year old fan standing 5 feet in front of me while singing "Hungry Heart" (as seen in the later half of the clip).

Stay tuned for more things to come from this space (including stories from concerts like this).

Discussion Would you put The Rising on Bruce’s Essential Albums list on Apple Music?

Thumbnail
gallery
62 Upvotes

For those who don’t use streaming platforms to listen to music, please still feel free to comment. Apple Music's Essential Albums are editorial selections intended to highlight the most important and influential records in an artist's discography. Usually the factors associated with this are historical significance, artistic importance, cultural impact, critical reception, and legacy.

Seeing how The Rising became one of the defining albums in response to the aftermath of 9/11, how it became the first full album in 18 years with the E Street Band, and reaching number 1 on the Billboard 200, as well as winning two Grammys, and best rock album, I would say it fills all the criteria’s for what should viewed as an essential album.

Personally I think this album also amplified Springsteen’s legacy even more, as it provided a late career resurgence in the 2000s, and introduced his music to younger audiences. Thoughts on this? (Also Born to Run is on his essential list, it’s just cut off the image)
