Some of them seem to get mad when Browns fans don’t mention how much we hate Watson in every comment…what’s that supposed to accomplish anyway?

83

u/Tigercat01 1d ago

Start demanding that Steelers fans qualify every statement they make with their lack of personal support for Roethlisberger, Packers fans with Jacobs, Chiefs fans with Rice, Bills fans with Hairston, etc... Is whatever team signs unrepentant convicted serial domestic abuser Tyreek Hill going to draw the same vitriol that the Browns have drawn for signing accused but never criminally convicted sex pest Deshaun Watson?

It's so obnoxious how this is treated like an "issue" that is unique to the Browns fanbase. Obviously, I find Watson to be a problematic creep at best and an outright predator at worst, but if the benchmark for being able to support an NFL franchise is there being no problematic people on the roster, there could be no NFL. As I always say when this topic continues to come up every single week, even now 5 years after the fact and with the Browns playing some pretty good football, this is just selective outrage.

u/veverkap 1d ago

Also the NFL is a bunch of billionaires sucking the marrow out of cities by blackmailing them into new stadiums while simultaneously hiding CTE results and screwing over the players at every chance.

Lots and lots of money is involved and that brings evil.

2

u/Explosion1850 1d ago

That is exactly why Watson sex pest shit went public: Watson dared to stand up to the NFL billionaire boys club by refusing to play. And the NFL saw to it that Watson was made a pariah.

Do you really believe that many NFL owners aren't doing far worse to women and society than anything Watson was accused of doing?

It's just football. And we watch football. I dont know anything about these doods personal lives. I wasnt there, so why would I judge. I mean if you put a microscope to any team, there is going to be dirt.

Just in this division, the Raven and Bengals too had a lot of guys that did bad things or had trouble with the law. Heck I think I read that Ravens great, Ray Lewis got in brawls where some doods died. It's a sport where guys bang their heads together all day, some doods are bound to be a bit different then the average person. Anyway I'm going to focus on the football cuz thats what I know

This is reddit. You are required to virtue signal with each and every post.

22

u/Shebalied 1d ago

It drives me crazy. Reddit was NOT like this pre-Covid. Reddit has been ruined by bots. I feel like most of those people are bots, does not matter what sub you are in, people are just mad and don't like anything.

u/Denny_Diamonds 1d ago

I didn’t use to believe in the Dead Internet Theory, but now I 100% do!!

1

u/mystir 1d ago

There's a reason the NPC meme exists. I used to think it was dumb, but then you see shit like this and go "oh, those are the NPCs"

17

u/ilikepisha 1d ago

It allows the tragically angry to feel special

4

u/Spzmk 1d ago

That also happens on this very sub too.

6

u/buddyblakester 1d ago

Watson is like original sin at this point. If we enjoy the team we must lash ourselves as a reminder. And I will continue to do so cause fuck that dude

5

u/nickcan 1d ago

For sure, but the hell if I'm going to do it publicly to placate some mob.

I can dislike Watson all I want without having to announce every time I post something positive about my team.

0

u/AF_AF 1d ago

Yeah, and I hate that Jimmy has put us in this position to have to deal with him on the field again.

4

u/Newdaddysalad 1d ago

Which is stupid because I bet there’s at least one woman beater on every team. So by that logic every person shouldn’t be allowed to root for their team.

0

u/Forty_Six_and_Two 1d ago

One? What a world that would be. My estimate is that about 25% of the NFL is someone who has assaulted a woman in some way or another. You take a kid from (let's be honest) low socio-economic background, tell him he's a king, pump him up with cutting edge supplements, stick him in the world's most violent sport, glut him with cash, and you think he's going to take one ounce of shit off some chick he's been dating for 3 months? And that's just violent assault. SA is a whole other thing.

We do everything for these young men except teach them how to be men. The erosion of the nuclear family is to blame and it's time we figured that out.

u/thebenji2_0 1d ago

A caller on 92.3 this morning said it perfectly. He has kept his nose clean since he joined the Browns. That does not discount what he did but he has worked hard to come back despite the public criticizing him. Besides, that was Texans Deshaun Watson. This is Browns "Shaun" Watson! Completely different person...

91

u/ozymandais13 1d ago

You can hate deshaun and still be happy they are winning. You can boycott the game and still be happy we are winning

22

u/MilkToastGhost 1d ago

This. My wife asked why I havent bought a Bengals jersey if I'm boycotting the browns and I told her I don't hate my team I hate the player and I'd rather get nothing than be a team traitor.

18

u/user46893355 1d ago

How could your wife suggest such a thing…

7

u/therealstory28 1d ago

I hope he already has the divorce attorney on speed dial.

6

u/Pitiful-Tip152 1d ago

At least she didn’t suggest a Steelers Jersey. That’s grounds for IMMEDIATE divorce!

3

u/Griegz 1d ago

She must be from Kentucky.

1

u/MilkToastGhost 1d ago

She's from.. Cincinnati

1

u/stargrazer10 1d ago

Bengals havent been the cleanest team in their history either. Read up on some guys such as vontaze burfict, pacman jones, etc. It's just football, a sport, so that is what I am going to focus on, not their personal lives

2

u/Umaritimus 22h ago

I’m worried that if they win enough that they’ll keep him around

1

u/ozymandais13 22h ago

I have a similar concern. Imo it shakes down a few differant ways

1 shaduer takes this extra bench time and the offseason and fills in the big issue he has presnap so that the only real difference between them is recent performance. His contract is an incredible valuable asset as it's just dirt cheap and is coincidently 2 years after this year similar to other bridges at a fraction of the cost. If he is able to be a mid bridge it opens up our ability to spend.

2 Watson is retained on a reasonable deal , that's my least favorite but after this year I'd understand it. It really depends on his market

3. Differant bridge we need a vet to place in front of a rookie qb my second favorite option is replacing dw.

You all can also stop being performative and claiming you “hate” Deshaun Watson. Even that is virtue signaling. Man was convicted of nothing and was railroaded by a slimy lawyer, about 20 gold digging liars and the Texans in general. He tried to hook up with IG models (er, I mean, “masseuses”). He got a little creepy.

None of that has ever deserved all the shit he’s gotten and by extension Browns fans. Coach loves him, teammates love him, maybe we can learn to also. Fuck the haters, they just want the Browns to be a punching bag.

Fuck that. I’m not afraid in any way to say that I have zero qualms about enthusiastically rooting for our QB.

7

u/ozymandais13 1d ago

Congrats , it's always that I'm Virtue signaling when it gets in ones way of enjoyment. You don't have 24 accusers with nothing happening. There was not a conspiracy of people out to get deshaun , just like there wasn't enough info to convict Ben, or Ray.

Shit like this is why women don't come out when they get assaulted.

3

u/EverybodyWangChung52 1d ago

I would read the stuff put out by the judge. Let’s say Watson didn’t do any sexual stuff (unlikely) he did do some SUPER scummy stuff to try and get sexual stuff.

1

u/Umaritimus 16h ago

lol “performative”

Watson is a fucking predator. Congrats on getting a couple wins I guess.

u/ChessClubChimp 1d ago

I mean… to be fair, WE were saying this about Steelers fans rooting for Roethlisberger.

11

u/Dory-1031 1d ago

People didn't act this way about Kobe when he started winning. Like what do people want us to do?

21

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 1d ago

You can not like Watson and still point out the hypocrisy. It's all just people living in glass houses. Every team has extremely shitty people.

12

u/obtuselegend 1d ago

I mean most pro sports team owners are pieces of shit

3

u/veverkap 1d ago

All of them are. Every single one. There is no such thing as a "good" billionaire.

3

u/obtuselegend 1d ago

Everyone shows up and cheers on their team as we pay for the new stadiums while they donate to Pedos for tax breaks but cheering on the Browns because a trash human is on the team is the line being crossed

8

u/fade_me_fam 1d ago

Packers fans gonna stop supporting their team once Jacobs comes back? No. They can think he's a POS, but they'll still tune in. I'm over it from every other fan base.

1

u/Dubb18 1d ago

Even a lot of the legends are(were) shitty people but fans and parts of the media still idolize them.

21

u/largelawattorney 1d ago

I finally got banned from that sub because I asked a Steelers fan if they were stupid when they defended Minkah’s hit on KC. Also, woof.

13

u/Joseph_Shabadoo_II 1d ago

You should have asked him if they count Super Bowls XL and XLII since they were won by a sex pest. James Harrison and Antonio Brown were no saints either. Steelers fans clutching their pearls is rich.

-1

u/da99s 1d ago

as usual mods are soft af that's why r/NFLv2 better

11

u/MUjase 1d ago

I love when someone REALLY wants to get on their high horse and says something along the lines of “if you’re a father, how could you ever look your daughter in the eye again after rooting for this Browns team?!”

Yeah buddy, that’s all parenting comes down to. Rooting for a sports team with a bad guy on the team. There’s no coming back from that as a parent. You got me, worst father ever!!

5

u/EvlOrangeMan 1d ago

It's always funny coming from fans of teams with wife beaters ect saying that.

20

u/throwawayjoeyboots 1d ago

It’s very much a Reddit echo chamber virtue signaling thing. No one on in the real world obsesses over this like they do.

10

u/BlackTriceratops 1d ago

Woof check

3

u/JuliusDiamond 1d ago

I only went into a post or two there about us winning and, what I saw, was mostly Browns fans saying variations of "what the hell is going on?!"

6

u/wumbo2495 1d ago

The worst part is the Texans as an organization actively helped cover up and they get off scott free.

3

u/Forty_Six_and_Two 1d ago

They enabled every assault he committed. They created a fucking infrastructure for him to offend, and made him feel like he wasn't even doing anything wrong. But we're the assholes, because we picked him up after he did his dirt, not during. It's so fucked up.

4

u/MRWPlople 1d ago

We as fans have zero control over the dumb decisions by the staff / owner (see past idk... 60+ years?) While I dont enjoy the baggage that comes with a lot of choices they make the alternative is what? Switch teams? Not watch football? If anything it would be the MOST browns thing to do to win anything significant with the PR nightmare we have behind center.

"yay browns actually wont something!*"

    • indicating significant negative undertone to this unfamiliar winning feeling

6

u/nickcan 1d ago

I love how they keep telling us that Watson is a bad guy, like we don't fucking know, and haven't been complaining about it for the last 4 years.

I love winning games as much as the next guy, but the whole "Watson is redeemed" narrative is a storyline that is being imposed on us.

1

u/Mountain-Concern1738 1d ago

I have yet to see that storyline. The only positive things I am hearing from the media is in regard to him finally playing well.

2

u/SouthEndCables 1d ago

Right. I haven't seen anything about him being "redeemed"

→ More replies (1)

1

u/YaBoiWheelz 1d ago

It really feels like this is the most I’ve heard about it since he signed the contract. Only now that we’re winning there needs to be a spotlight on the sexual assaulter despite all the great talent supporting our offense

5

u/Seamonkey_Boxkicker 1d ago

I’ll admit I barked a few times yesterday. A couple Quinshon touchdowns and Denzel’s INT.

1

u/TrailMomKat 1d ago

Do you mean balked?

Edit: nevermind I'm an idiot and I just woke up lol

5

u/sketchy722 1d ago

That an interesting argument, because the NFL is allowing him to play. So if we aren't allowed to root for the browns, they shouldn't be allowed to root for the NFL at all.

10

u/veverkap 1d ago

I got banned because I pointed out that, due to revenue sharing, them buying their favorite player's jersey or NFL Sunday Ticket gave money to the Browns who gave it to Watson.

2

u/Caspar_Friedrich02 1d ago

Dawg pound baby

4

u/TomCruiseImOnFire 1d ago

He did the punishment just saying

3

u/mobusdorphin 1d ago

This is the thing here. At some point, he was adjudicated by the courts, adjudicated by the NFL, settled with complainants, at some point you just move on from the past. And also, you don't need to punish the entire city of Cleveland for the conduct of one player, especially after everything already served. The players seem to be good with DeShaun too and that counts quite a bit in my book too the people who actually know the person versus a rando on reddit who read a headline.

5

u/Greedy_Bookkeeper_23 1d ago

I’m gonna say this and I’m prepared for the downvotes. Watson was not charged with a single crime. All 27 women retained the same ambulance chasing attorney. All 27 women gladly took settlement offers. Settling a lawsuit does not equal an admission of guilt or that the claims had any merit. Watson paid his dues both in terms of NFL suspension and financially to these women. This virtue signaling and the need to preface every positive Browns take with some variation of “I hate Watson” or “I don’t support Watson” is old. Get over it.

11

u/Additional-Basis-772 1d ago

Not just no but Fuck no, Watson is a fucking sex pest period we can be happy for the recent browns success but the creep under center is still a fucking creep, and yes i m happy for the Brown but I would be more happy if Watson tore his achilles again (because lets be honest he's clearly still not good and i m pretty sure thé browns would be in the same place with any of their current qbs 🤷) And lets not pretend how half of the people dickriding him now were the loudest "i hate Watson" on this sub

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Mountain-Concern1738 1d ago

I'll be downvoted and probably banned but ...

Why find a "masseuse" on Instagram? You don't. You find prostitutes masquerading as a masseuse.

3

u/maybenextyearCLE 1d ago

As someone who cared a lot about what Watson did 5 years ago, I’ll just say this. He served his suspension, his career clearly went totally off the rails, he got humiliated in 2024, and he blew his Achilles twice and suffered an extremely rare shoulder injury. I’d say karma got Watson pretty damn good.

Am I thrilled he’s here? No, and never will be. But he’s apparently never reoffended given he lives in a county with a notoriously aggressive County Prosecutor who absolutely would’ve charged him if it happened.

7

u/ChessClubChimp 1d ago

The problem is that the 27 women likely aren’t moving on that easily. Victims of sexual assault carry that weight for all of their lives. Watson gets to shrug it off and be welcomed as a hero because he’s winning football games. Pretty fucked up that the assailant gets a privilege that these women don’t.

I get your point, but this is why there are those who won’t get on board with it

→ More replies (2)

3

u/veverkap 1d ago

I hate that fucking piece of shit - I'm glad that he settled all of the claims though. Even though he never showed remorse, at least he paid them some money.

4

u/UrbanGoose77 1d ago

r/nfl mods banned me for "Belittling sexual assault and SA victims" when I was calling out the hypocrisy of all the fans on this very topic
