The Dark Coil: Damnation and Ascension by Peter Fehervari
The Dark Coil is a collection of short stories and novels set in the Warhammer 40 000 universe. W40K is perhaps best known for its bolter porn (stories packed with action, violence, and Space Marines), but the Dark Coil tells a different story: one where there are no heroes or villains, where everything seems determined to destroy you, both physically and psychologically, and where the characters are victims of forces far beyond their understanding.
These books also make for a great autumn read if you want to immerse yourself in this grim, interconnected universe, where characters, places, and events slip across space and time from one story to another. Sometimes the connections are clear: one story might continue the events of another. More often, however, they border on the inexplicable, leaving you wondering whether you're uncovering a hidden conspiracy or simply losing your mind.
Personally, I really enjoyed all the books, although I do have my favourites:
Requiem Infernal (The Dark Coil: Ascension): One of my favourite novels ever. It explores spiritual corruption from several perspectives, including those of Imperial soldiers, members of the Adepta Sororitas, and other travellers caught up in the unfolding nightmare.
Nightbleed (The Dark Coil: Ascension): This story gives us a glimpse into the life of an ordinary person in a decadent, once-industrial Imperial world. The setting is deeply grim, and the story follows a woman as she makes her way to work at night while being stalked by a predator.

What are your favourite book covers?
I’m looking for book covers as inspiration for my product’s packaging.
For context only, I make & sell custom music boxes and I want to design a packaging box for them that looks like a beautiful book cover. The size of the box will be 15x10x6cm (roughly A6).
I’m just curious to see some of your favourites, here are a few I collected yesterday in London.

One of my current shelves. Misc publishers (Folio, Broken Binding, Grim Oak, etc), but I think all the books are nice. Olive Oyl is a bonus.
I'm very happy with how the collection has been growing.

Gorgeous silk-bound edition of classic ghost stories, and pretty affordable too (can’t go wrong with Abbeville Press). All the artwork is done on autumn leaves! Recommend for your Halloween reads.

Today's haul from my local used bookshop. Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Complete Sherlock Holmes Short Stories' set (Folio Society), WH Auden 'Collected Shorter Poems' (Folio Society), PD James 'Cover Her Face' (Folio Society), and Richard Wright 'Native Son' (First Edition Library). [OC]
I am so pleased with myself and my bookshelves.
And so astounded I get to call this my local used bookshop (The shop is "Words to Live By" in Moorhead, MN, btw).
It's such an amazing bookshop, in such an unexpected place.

Handbound Dante’s Inferno
Handbound Inferno by Dante Alighieri. Part 1 of Dante’s Divine Comedy written in the early 1300s.
I found a typeset of Henry Longfellow’s translation online and decided to hand-bind it for my collection. This book is bound in Black Goat Leather and is comprised of 18 signatures.
Cheers!
