Discussion Buy Nothing Reddit Page

Just a friendly reminder that there is indeed a reddit page for fellow Boise residents looking to re-home items or in search of items needing rehomed.

I personally post and fail to get much traction on my rehoming efforts as the page is not well known.

Question Psychiatrist and therapist

Hello, I am trying to find some resources for a loved one. Are there any recommendations for a good psychiatrist and a therapist that specialize in OCD/anxiety? Unfortunately the options are very limited on my side of the valley.

Thanks!

Question Lease ending and really need help looking for leads on rentals - would prefer a private landlord over a company.

I've lived in the same place for nearly 7 years. Landlords are choosing not to renew lease and I need to be out by end of November. It hurts, but such is life.

I'm just finishing up medical leave. I'll be honest - I had struggled with the injury for over a year and it affected my work hours. I was able to pay bills but my rent was a few days late several times. My rent went up again right when I went on medical leave and the smaller paychecks didn't help. My rent is late on the 6th and I didn't have it until the 10th this month. My landlord said they won't take late rent anymore (understandably - I'm not blaming them). I took this to mean that from that moment on, there would be a zero late policy or I'd have to leave. Then I got a notice of lease ending on my door this morning and it crushed me.

I'm not trying to give a sob story, but I think context matters. My medical leave ends this week and I can go back to working full-time and overtime. I also paint on the side and have a successful art business that I can start up again now that I'm healed. I'm going to ask my landlords to reconsider but I have to plan for a likely rejection.

Due to leave and loss of hours, I don't have enough for application fees and large security deposit. I'm fully cleared to work again and am in PT to keep it that way.

About me:

  • I'm a quiet person who keeps to myself - I'm a homebody and am very happy in my own space. I have my little brother who pops by for lunch sometimes, but other than that there are no visitors.

  • I do have 2 indoor rescue cats. I've had cats my whole life and there is always enough stimulation to keep them happy. They don't spray or scratch or anything.

  • I'm clean and tidy - I clean daily, vacuum, run air filters, keep up basic house maintenance. Cleaning and fixing things are my happy place, so I won't be calling for simple things like a broken lightbulb or a blown fuse.

  • I work in healthcare and been with the same company since 2020.

  • I'd love to stay in Boise but I'm open to other areas. My priority is finding a place and living further is okay.

  • If I rented a room in a house, I'd need a private bathroom (health issues, just trust me) and for my cats to be able to go outside my room. I don't have the heart to lock them in a bedroom 24/7, so ideally no dogs or cats in the house. It's a big ask, but I'm hoping. Preference would be a one bedroom or studio.

  • My current rent is $1300 and I'd like to keep it around that but open to discussion if it's a little more. I can pick up unlimited overtime at work and it's worth it to not be on the streets.

If anyone knows places for rent or are landlords or anything, I'd really appreciate help. I'm keeping my eye out for places but any bit of help I can get would be ideal.

I'm pretty scared right now and need to prepare as much as I can.

I'll answer any questions, concerns, all help is more than appreciated.

Question Is $4,500 fair for a small concrete patio in Meridian? Also looking for contractor recs

Looking to get a concrete patio poured in my backyard in Meridian. The total area is about 11' x 17' at most, and a small section already has concrete, so the new pour will be a bit less than that. The rest is currently just dirt, so it'll need excavation and base prep.

I was quoted around $4,500. Does that sound normal for this area right now, or is it on the high side?

For those who've done something similar: is it better to tie new concrete into an existing slab, or tear it out and pour the whole thing fresh? I'm trying to figure out which approach makes more sense in the long run before I commit.

Also, does anyone have recommendations for local concrete companies they've had a good experience with? Ideally someone who could get it done before it gets too cold, but I'm open to spring if that's the smarter move.

Thanks in advance!

Question Best Chinese food in the Treasure Valley?

I'm in the Meridian/Boise area and looking for the best Chinese food around, whether that's a hole-in-the-wall or a sit-down place. I'd much rather try local spots than chains. What are your go-to places, and what dishes should I order? Thanks!

Politics Check your OBGYN’s. Mine signed the letter AGAINST prop 1.

I voted yes on proposition 1.

Last night when I was scrolling, the letter popped up from local doctors in Idaho that are urging people to vote NO on Proposition 1. Most of the doctors are not even related to OB care but there are still a few who signed onto that letter. Mine was one of them - Monika Fealko at Women’s Health Associates.

Check your OBGYN’s. You deserve healthcare from someone who makes you feel safe. Thankfully there are far more doctors out there who signed the letter urging people to vote YES on Prop 1.

Adding this for ease of access - here are links to BOTH letters.

To get there you head N on Glenwood (off of Chinden) and take a right on Backstretch. Parking lot is on the left at the end of the road.

Politics Fellow Namponians and Nampanites; Vote NO on the Police Levy

Increasing police funds is the opposite of Defund, Disarm, and Reform. If they really need money that bad how about they sell their useless fucking APC and chill out on covering piggies in miltech cosplay.

This proposal would create a permanent tax increase for all homeowners to the tune of $30/$100k per year aiming for $5 million a year.

You want to raise our taxes? Put it to schools and social services.

My apologies for posting in the Boise sub, we all know the valley just uses this one.

Question Where Are The Cops?

TLDR; rant of lack of cops pulling over people who need to be pulled over for safety reasons.

We got all these people running reds 5 cars deep, 5 car involved rollovers, people literally driving the opposite way of travel because they're tired of waiting. Motorcycle accidents happening every day. What the actual fuck is going on with this city? Where the hell are all the state police, Boise police, Meridian police, etc. Where are all the taxpayer dollars going. I'm over it, and majority of people are over it.

Opinion Update: The mysterious blond, tattooed white man in the Boise State rape allegation…an unexpected turn

Following up on the earlier discussion in r/Boise about the alleged rape near the Boise River Greenbelt.

On October 10, Boise State University issued a campus safety alert about an alleged rape near the Boise River Greenbelt. According to the initial warning, a woman had been attacked outdoors by an unknown white man in his 30s, with long blond hair and tattoos on his arms. She reportedly fought him off before he fled. The university circulated the suspect description, warning students about the alleged attack.

But the story took an unexpected turn. Boise Police subsequently announced that the original information was inaccurate. Investigators said the reported incident actually took place inside student housing, not outdoors near the Greenbelt, and that they were not searching for an unknown attacker. The original suspect description was also deemed inaccurate.

Now, Boise State’s official crime log lists the investigation (case #615142) as INACTIVE, with no publicly reported arrests or charges. Police have not publicly established that a rape occurred, but they also have not declared the allegation false. That leaves some unanswered questions: Where did the detailed description of the mysterious blond stranger come from? Why did the location change so dramatically? And what caused the investigation to become inactive?

Question Recommendations for a strategic, organized family law attorney for a contested child custody case?

I’m looking for recommendations for an Idaho-licensed family law attorney in the Boise area.

I need someone specifically experienced with contested child custody cases.

What I am hoping to find:

Strategic and thorough, not just reactive.
Organized and communicative.
Someone who returns calls and emails, and keeps deadlines and paperwork straight.
Trustworthy and straightforward about options and realistic outcomes.
Open to remote consultations.

I am not looking for a lawyer to be a therapist.
This is my first time dealing with the court system.
What I value most is someone who will be direct and honest with me. Even when the answer is not what I want to hear. And someone who will explain the process clearly at each step.
Including what to expect, what could go wrong, and what decisions are actually mine to make.

If you have worked with someone who fits that description, I would really appreciate the name and what made them stand out for you. Especially around communication and preparation, not just the result.

Feel free to DM me if you would rather not post publicly.
Thank you.
