Question New to board games
My gf and I have a current rotation of
Monopoly deal
Agent Avenue
Sky team
and was wondering what people would recommend we try next?
I heard of bomb busters but I heard that it isn’t fun with 2 people
I heard of splendor duel but we’ve never played the original splendor and not sure if that matters.
We’re looking for fun 2 players that take under an hour

Bending rules while playing with kids
I absolutely love playing games with my kids (13, 11, 7, 5) and I have a teensy tiny collection of board games (barely 200+ games plus just a few expansions… like the entire Legendary Marvel collection and the entire Arkham Horror LCG collection, like I said, teensy tiny) and we’ve started to play more complex games.
I’m currently playing DC Legendary with my 11yo daughter and gosh golly gee, wouldn’t you know it, we just manage to squeak out a victory every time.
95% of me says “spending quality time with your daughter who’s having a blast and increasing her nerdiness is an added bonus, just have fun”, buuuut there is that 5% of me that murmurs “constantly greasing the skids so she wins isn’t teaching her valuable life lessons.”
I have started to play more straight up with my 13yo daughter, she figured out when I kept asking her was her score was first and then my score was magically 2-3 below hers every single time was more than shocking coincidence :)
I’m hoping to not have this turn into some political s***show about “kids these days”, just genuinely interested in how other adults have approached this topic.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Question Etiquette question: reminding players of your (public) powers?
A debate came up at the table during my last session.
Say you’re playing a game where players have various passive abilities in play and/or certain units with unique abilities. This information is public (i.e., cards are face up on the table) but due to text size etc it’s not really practical to read everyone’s cards easily on the table.
Everyone announces what their cards do at the time when they are put in play. But what about later turns? What’s your obligation to remind others of what you can do or how your cards will resolve an interaction?
Last game for example I had a unit that would be able to remove one enemy unit during a battle. However this did not trigger immediately when the battle was declared but only right before the “reveal” phase (after players had committed the units they would be risking in the battle and what cards they had chosen to play).
My default assumption was I have no duty to remind other players that I would be able to remove that one enemy unit right before the combat resolved, and that it’s their responsibility to keep other players’ active cards in mind as they make their choices.
The table was 50/50 split on this, with some saying that I should be reminding everyone of the power at the beginning of the battle so players could make their choices accordingly. The logic was that there was too much information on the table for anyone to be able to keep track of it all.
After arguing about this for a bit, as a compromise, we ended up imposing no duty to announce your abilities until the ability actually triggered (provided you had announced your card’s power at the time it entered play). But, any player could ask another player what “relevant” cards they had in play at any time before committing to their decision.
This too felt very clunky and led to everyone asking everyone else constantly what abilities they had in play. It also seemed to take a type of skill (being able to keep track of your opponent’s abilities) out of the game.
I don’t think the particular game was that complex, our group has definitely played and enjoyed more complex games. However the size of the face-up cards and text did make it impractical to simply look at your opponent’s player area and readily determine what public information was present.
Has anyone else had this kind of debate at your table?
edit: because it has been mentioned several times, everyone was on equal footing with the game as far as experience. This was not our first time with this game, although there’s enough unique cards that no one would’ve known all of them

I bought more of my favorite cheap board game organizers! (And tried out a new size!)
These cheap "mint tins" from Amazon continue to be my go-to for budget friendly board game component organization. In addition to re-upping my go-to size, I bought some BIGGER sized containers as well!

Board game tattoo ideas
My wife recently passed away and we were huge board game lovers. I would like to get a tattoo to include small pieces of her favorite games but struggling how to design it and would like ideas/opinions from a community that understands the details of all of these games. My initial thoughts are something like the pieces falling down my leg but unsure how to flow them together. These are some of her fav games not that it has to include them all- ticket to ride, wingspan, wyrmspan, catan, quacks, welcome to, azul, harmonies, raccoon tycoon, flamecraft, critter kitchen, river valley, sagrada, creature comforts, trinket trove, everdell, tea witches and harmonies. This means so much to me and I appreciate any input. Thank you!

Stuff Happens Card Game
Stuff Happens is a simple, casual party game. Each player starts with three cards of miserable occurances of varying degrees, arranged from least painful to most painful. The player before you will read a card to you, without telling you its misery rating, and you guess where it fits on your "Lane of Pain" card row. If you're right, you add it to your card row. First player to ten cards wins. The rules say that you should assume the worst case scenario for each card.
This game can be good fun. The problem is that there are several cards that no one agrees with and sours the experience.
How do you justify losing hot water mid-shower as being way worse than having your flight delayed twice and then cancelled???

Size vs setup time
I was just looking at The Danes crowdfunding campaign. One of the biggest draws for me is the quick setup system. But one of the biggest drawbacks for me is how big the box is.
But I think that often those go hand in hand - the big box is necessary for all of the trays and everything. Which got me thinking - what do I prioritize? Ease of setup? Or a smaller box size?
After thinking about it, I think that here's my preferences, which actually surprised me a bit, ordered from most preferred to least preferred:
Ticket to Ride-sized box with insert or trays for quicker setup
Ticket to Ride-sized box, everything in baggies
Taller box, still fits in a Kallax, with trays for quicker setup
Large box that doesn't fit in a Kallax, with trays for quicker setup
A box that's too small and gets lid lift
Any situation with multiple boxes
Anyways, I'm probably not going to back The Danes. How about you all? Do you prioritize quick setup or a smaller box?

Question Bought this at Essen, in shrink, at a booth… this is mold, isn’t it?
I bought a copy of Nakasendo at Essen, today, I get to opening it to check it out, unbox it etc… and this is what I’m greeted by… I know sometimes scratches or rub offs from other components can give the impression that it’s mold… but this box is so packed when first opened, Nothing could have moved and rubbed off. Plus, when you use a flash photo, the spots get even more visible.
What do I do now? Contact Little Rocket games, see what they can do? Can this be recouped? It’s a small box game, but at 30€, it wasn’t exactly cheap…
Plus… my little cosy game 🥺…

Crowdfunding What are your thoughts on Tanares Dungeons as a returning backer
If you backed Tanares Adventures, you might remember the backlash when the game was fulfilled with the messiest rulebook. It was convoluted and really cumbersome.
Then they launched a second printing with a pricey fix to all those issues. I don't remember the exact price because I didn't back it, but it left a sour taste in my mouth.
Now with Tanares Dungeons, they're offering an upgrade completely free to returning backers if you just get the base pledge. Seems enticing, but I feel like this is textbook sunk-cost fallacy. After my first playthrough of Tanares Adventures, I loved the gameplay, but decided I'd never go through the setup again because it was so painful.

Rules Quatermaster General WW2 / 2nd edition (if it matters)
Hi Everyone, I read the rules and can’t understand very simple thing: rules says that players play in turns, so:
1) Sequence: Play Card, Supply Step, Victory Step, Discard and Draw - they are done by players in turns: 1st Player Card Play then 2nd Player Card Play, then 1st Player Supply… or one player performs all steps 1-5 and then another?
2) Status and Responses: lets assume they are already on the table (so card play action was spent in them last round to place them) - now, when I activate / trigger them - it counts as Play Card Action? Or not?
Thank you!

Question Race for the galaxy, rebel vs imperium worth adding to game or just the gathering storm?
Hi all, I recently got second edition of race and have the opportunity to buy the gathering storm and rebel vs imperium. I am set on gathering storm but not sure if I should get RvI Also? I’m mainly concerned about balance and deck bloat and noticed online discourse is a bit mixed on rvi onwards? we play very casually for added context

Question Is Lancaster still worth buying today, or has it been replaced by another game?
I stumbled upon Lancaster and started watching videos on it, and it appeals to me mainly for these reasons:
- Voting phase
- Reasonably priced
- ~2 hours playtime
- 5 players out of the box
It ticks a lot of boxes for me. I had been looking for another game after liking Hegemony’s voting phase but never found one until now.
I’m just wondering if there’s a game that’s come out in the past 15 years that takes the premise and does it better before I pull the trigger and buy it.

Setting up The Witcher: Path of Destiny with our new insert
We’ve been testing our insert for The Witcher: Path of Destiny during actual gameplay, and this is what the full table setup looks like.
The main goal was simple: spend less time sorting components and more time playing.
The trays can go directly from the box to the table, keeping cards, tokens and other components separated and within easy reach during the game.
This photo shows the insert in a real setup — no studio arrangement, just the game ready to play.
We designed and manufacture the insert at e-Raptor, so feedback from Witcher players is very welcome.
What matters more to you in an insert: faster setup, faster cleanup, or keeping everything organized during the game?

Custom Project Wavelength, but asynchronous, inside a Reddit post
Hi all, Wavelength is one of my favorite party/board games, but it's not always easy to get a group together to play. So I built a version that works directly within Reddit, where people can drop in whenever they're free: r/InSync.
Would love feedback from folks here, especially on whether the game even works in this format.

How-To/DIY Coloring in pips on dice
We have dice that have pips we wish were darker or lighter or didn’t get colored in.
Is there a specific type of marker or pen that you use to color in pips white or black or any other colors? We really don’t want to use paint or anything that may lead to filling them in or make the dice a little unbalanced.
Not that the cheap dice we often get in board games aren’t maybe a little unbalanced anyway.

Custom Project Making my 18 card dungeon crawler free for anyone interested. Grim Gauntlet
Hello everyone! I wanted to share a solo development project I worked on for the past couple years. It is an 18 card dungeon crawler called Grim Gauntlet.
I originally designed the game as part of a game design contest but wasn't able to complete it in time. So, I worked on it over a couple of years to submit to the publisher. Unfortunately I never heard back to have it picked up.
The game was intended to be a physical game small enough to fit in a wallet, however I created a digital version for playtesting etc. The game is a bit more work to play as a digital version but is still completely playable.
Do to issues with depression and anxiety I have been having problems with motivation and drive to pursue other publishers.
I wanted to make it available and known for anyone who is interested in playing it. Hopefully at least a few people can get some joy from it.
I created this by myself with playtest help from a couple of friends and my brother. I am by no means an artists but all art was done by myself. I was hoping to get the art commissioned but I was never near close to having the funds for it so please excuse the sorry excuse for art on the cards, I tried my hardest lol.
I did put a lot of time, effort and passion into this game. It isn't perfect by any means but I really hope some find enjoyment from it if you give it a chance.
It's completely free so please consider giving is a try if you have the time. If you do, I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback. I am unsure if I will be able to find that passion again but if I do I will try to implement any feedback in the future.
Here is a link to the pitch video if you would like a peek at what its about:

Edit: If you know any other subreddits that this post might be suitable for please let me know so I can post it there as well, thanks so much!
Edit 2: As suggested by another person I made it available on itch.io if you wish to Print and Play!
