I’m a white 51 yo American from South Carolina. My granddad was half black and white. (photo included) My great granddad was black and my great grandmother was white. I’m pretty white myself, very pale.(photo included) I have a pretty large percentage of SSA at 11.5% with a large amount of African Diaspora at very close. From what I’ve gathered this is pretty unusual.

I decided to write a lil book report on my dads ancestry in the meantime while I find my moms. This is all confirmed documentation from all sides of his tree compiled into a summary based on all the research I’ve done over time for those of you who enjoy reading and learning like I do lol. Btw it says updated because i wrote it once before, everything remains accurate.

I find myself revisiting this documentary at least once a year. To my surprise, not many people know about it.

It features the reading of slave narratives by numerous Black actors, such as Whoopi Goldberg, Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Bassett, and Jasmine Guy.

Although the subject matter is difficult to listen to at times, it keeps me grounded in my determination to document, learn, and understand my history.

To my knowledge I’m not Gullah.

Really love how they gave us more African diversity being brought forward. That alone tells how diverse we are as a people along with contributions from others outside of the African continent.

I was looking through hints for my ancestors on Ancestry and this was in a newspaper article. It is from The Semi-Weekly Landmark Friday, November 2, 1900. Statesville, NC. Maybe someone is related.

I'm a descendant of Henry Porter. Who was referred to as "The General" in Nat Turner's slave rebellion. It took place in Southampton County, Virginia on Aug 21 - 23 1831.

I found this interesting-- a lot of the ancestral journeys of people I am related to through my Jamaican/maternal lineage outside of Jamaica seem to be from Lowcountry USA.

I saw a lot opinions about different dna testing websites like Ancestry, 23&me, myheritage and other brands, that show very accurate results.

I done ancestry even they updated the results change and I didn’t think about it much but until I saw few of my relatives results it kind of seems weird.

First it show that my Great Aunt ( my paternal grandma’s sister) she has little European and a lot of African dna, now it shows that she has 100% African dna which it weird because we know her dad is African but mom was black ( everyone keep saying she native America).

Her son is mixed because his dad is white I think and his results changed he used to have French and Native American but it’s not in the result anymore.

I look on TikTok and everyone has mixed reactions about the results. I saw some people using other testing brands like 23&me.

I saw the girl took two tests, ancestry and 23&me, it show different results ( it’s an old video).

My great-grandfather was a Cane River Creole from Louisiana. Im working on my family tree and I found his military draft registration card, which lists him as working for J.W. Kimbrell or T.W. Kimbrell Plantation(the initials are difficult to make out) in St. Maurice, Louisiana.

Has anyone heard of this plantation or know anything about its history? The registration card is dated 1917.
