In honor of FOO…

• Upvotes

In honor of this year’s First Of October drop, I wanna do something similar. I’ve been a fan of the band for a few years, and every year I get crazy songwriting inspiration from the making of video. I always say I want to get together with a few people and do something similar (just get in a room and write/record as much music as possible, no holds barred). Usually this just ends up as me in my room coming up with a few songwriting ideas and then never doing anything with them. If anyone also is an enjoyer and would want to try doing this, even just as a songwriting exercise, hit me up! Either on here or on my socials (linked on my profile, @zdmusic_official).

Making connections on Berklee Valencia

• Upvotes

I was wondering how hard it is in comparison to Boston campus to make connections in Valencia while doing a masters program. Is there any chance to connect with undergraduate students, and is the experience completely different from Boston? I really wanted to get the Boston Berklee experience, with all those events and “American” parties, collaborations, jams in dorms etc. Would I luck that in Valencia?
And what do you think about that generally

Is it worth attending Berklee at 21 after another music bachelor?

So, I’m finishing next year my songwriting and music production 3 year degree, which was one of the worst experiences ever, I’m really unsatisfied with the level of education I got, cos there were almost no relevant and classically structured classes, workload and very simplified type of education. There were some reasons why I didn’t drop out but it’s totally my fault and I blame it on myself. Cos wasting 3 years on something so painful is so embarrassing. So I was wondering if it’s gonna be worthy going for a similar path but at Berklee ? If i get good scholarship maybe it could be worthy or you don’t think so? I’m an international student and since my teenage years I had that American dream, wanted to start in the US and was always interested in jazz, but as my parents were so not trustworthy towards it they only let me go to the uni in London cos it’s closer to my country. Even though I never thought of living there, and no matter how much I try , this place literally sucked everything out of me. It’s definitely not my place and I feel so depressed all the time, I have almost no similar minded people here and even with the closes people here I could build a good connection. I feel so lost and don’t know what to do. I was thinking of doing maters, but the are only good programs in Valencia for that, and I really don’t think it would benefit me. However I think it’s already too late to go for bachlors in Boston, everyone is gonna be 18 and I won’t get that true “American college life experience” that I’ve always dreamed of. I should’ve dropped out after first year and apply for Berklee 2 years ago, but due to mental health, other circumstances and just very low self esteem I haven’t taken action and didn’t think I’d be even able to get there….however now I see some of my acquaintances from my country going for their first year there… even though they were not much better professionally than me, yet they are younger. So i really don’t know what to… now I’m left with no knowledge and experience, so I can’t even get a job and I really don’t feel like doing anything. Seeing those friends livening my dream life just kills me inside…

(I’m mainly a singer, and in my current uni there were absolutely no private tuition classes, ensembles, note reading, harmony or ear training classes, just pure trash tbh)

Recent Berklee grads in Mumbai, let’s start a band!!

Hi! I’m 22 and a female singer-songwriter looking to start/join a band in Mumbai!!

I sing English-language pop, and my musical influences include The Beatles, Adele, Olivia Dean, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and YEBBA! I also write my own songs!

I’m looking for committed guitarists, drummers, bassists, and pianists/keys players around my age that seriously want to be in a band, play gigs, and are cool to hang out with! I’m also down to join an already-existing band that needs a lead vocalist!

You can be anywhere in Mumbai, but we should all be willing to travel within the city to meet pretty regularly so we can jam & play gigs!

Here’s a short clip of a performance I did at Berklee, just so you can know what kind of performer I am (this is a more ballad-y example but I also love doing more upbeat songs):

DM or comment if you’re interested 🙌

I have a very unique situation

I am 16 years old and I live in alabama. I want to move to Massachusetts at 18. And music is LITTERALLY THE THING that keeps me going in life. I was wondering if it was worth going to berklee if I want to be a Massachusetts state police officer. (They don't require a specific degree and before you ask, no they do not like criminal justice majors.) I'm a guitar player and I play keys and I'm a tenor vocalist and I'm currently in the process of learning guitar sheet music.

The cost is also outrages but I'm moving out of this horrible state ASAP.

Looking for musicians to participate in a short research survey!

I'm a Berklee student working on a research project exploring how musicians navigate the business side of the music industry, including contracts, royalties, copyright, and publishing.

I'm looking for singers, songwriters, independent artists, music students, producers, and music-industry professionals to complete a short 3–5 minute survey.

You don't need to be an expert in music business! I'm especially interested in hearing from people who find these topics confusing or don't know where to start.

Thank you for helping with my research!

Audition is in two weeks and I’m peeing my pants

Hello! As you can read from the title I will be auditioning in exactly two weeks. I’m already nervous but there has been some complications with my audition piece and now I’m absolutely peeing my pants. I really want to major in composition/film scoring and originally I was planning to just play a classical piece (I was taught classical music all my life). Like the idiot I am I just realized Berklee is a jazz focused school and I’m not sure if they would accept me into their school. Then I was wondering in this short amount of time if I could possibly create a jazzy piece at around 3 minutes and increase my chance of getting in.

What do you guys think 😭
Is this a potential clutch situation?

I lost all the content through various moves over the years but wonder where I could find it.

The orchestral tools' berlin orchestra w/ berklee sample library solo cello

Hi all, does anyone here have the orchestral tools' berlin orchestra w/Berklee sample library? If so, do you regularly use the solo cello sound? I really like how expressive this vst is, but it has a really weird attack & release transition / sound that I just can't seem to fix. I am curious if anyone uses it and if so, how you config it in the sine player. Thanks!

**edit: honestly, i feel like i can't get any of the instruments to attack correctly on the beat, ive tried adjusting the env and all things legato, as well as the delay in logic, it's driving me crazy! wondering if im missing something really small and obvious..

Looking for Berklee Alumni to study with

I’m a Berklee Online student applying to Berklee College in Boston and I’m looking for a Berklee graduate to study with for both educational purposes and also for my application.
I’m a guitarist majoring in composition. The main things I want to study are composition, theory, and improvisation. I was wondering if anybody here would be interested in meeting with me via zoom (or in person if anyone is in the Phoenix area) to work on these things with me. Thank you!

Just Curious For Some Advice

Wuddup big B (Big Berklee). I'm currently an 8th grader enrolled in one of the greatest public schools in Kansas right now.

I'm not in band anymore, I used to play the trombone, but now I'm being taught how to play the guitar and I've taught myself how to play the piano. Along with that, I am a GOD level producer at 13 (almost 14). This may look like me just being cocky, but I would gladly send yall the latest song I made for you to really hear for yourself.

What would yall advise me to do to prepare myself over the course of the next many years to go above and beyond when the time comes to prove myself worthy of attending this school? Like things just in general.

How much would it matter for me to not be in band anymore? How much do my general grades matter? How much work do I really need to put in outside of school? How much work could I maybe be able to put in during school? What's the news on scholarships and tuition? Just spout out whatever you wish you knew going in or whatever. Thank you big B in advance🤝

Berklee Jazz Band

Hey guys,

Looking to form a jazz group that practices together weekly (or more often), post videos, and have a fun time jamming. If you’re an instrumentalist looking into low-pressure and short consistent weekly sessions (30 mins more or less depending on schedules), hit me up! My name is David and I’m a first-year piano player at Berklee, with a 6 rating and 7 in improv. Looking for instrumentalists (drums, bass,…) at a similar level that are interested in playing and improving together. I like post-bop, but open to anything! Original compositions, neosoul, gospel music.

Any composition / film scoring students willing to stress-test a MusicXML score checker?

Hi! I'm a music student and developer working on a free web tool called Shardmonics, and I'm looking for composition / film scoring students who would be willing to stress-test it with real scores.

Shardmonics analyzes MusicXML files and looks for potential issues in areas such as harmony, voice leading, and instrument playability.

The goal isn't to replace a professor, composer, or performer. It's more like a first-pass checker that can point out places in a score that might be worth reviewing before a lesson, critique, or rehearsal.

I'm especially interested in finding cases where the analysis is wrong — false positives, missed problems, unusual orchestration, extended techniques, or anything else that breaks the current rules.

It doesn't generate music or rewrite your composition for you. It analyzes the score you upload and explains what it flags.

If anyone here works with MusicXML and would be interested in trying it, I'd really appreciate your feedback:

https://shardmonics.com

It's currently free to try.

If you test it, feel free to comment with what worked, what didn't, or what you think would actually make something like this useful for composition students.

Is a music business degree actually worth it? Looking for honest advice on Berklee, Full Sail, and breaking into the music industry

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some honest advice from people who have experience in the music industry, have attended music business programs, or have successfully broken into the industry without a degree.
I’m in my mid-twenties and looking to make a pretty significant career change. I’ve worked in education my entire professional life, but music has always been a personal passion of mine. I’m at a point where I really want to pursue that interest professionally rather than continue down the career path I’m currently on.
I’m particularly interested in **tour management, artist management, and music marketing**, although I’m open to exploring different paths within the industry.

I’ve applied to Berklee and Full Sail for their music business programs, and I’ve spent a lot of time researching both schools. Honestly, though, I’m getting incredibly mixed messages. I’ve read experiences from people who feel their education was valuable and helped them build connections, but I’ve also come across plenty of people who feel music business degrees aren’t worth the money and that the industry is more about networking, experience, and getting your foot in the door.
That’s where I’m struggling.

At this point in my life, I still need to work full-time and support myself, so going back to school is a significant commitment financially, professionally, and personally. I’m trying to figure out whether investing in a degree would genuinely help me transition into the industry or whether my time and money would be better spent pursuing internships, entry-level positions, networking, volunteering at shows and festivals, or finding other ways to gain hands-on experience.

I also recognize that I’m coming from a completely different professional background, so I’m trying to be realistic about what breaking into the industry might actually look like.
For those of you who have been through a similar experience, attended Berklee or Full Sail, earned a music business degree elsewhere, or built a career in the industry without one:

**Was getting a degree worth it for you? Did it meaningfully help you get a job, make connections, or advance your career?**

**Does anyone have firsthand experience with Berklee Online or Full Sail’s music business programs? What did you like or dislike, and did the education translate into real opportunities?**

**How much does the school’s name actually matter compared with experience, networking, and who you know?**

**If your goal were artist management, tour management, or music marketing, would you recommend going to school or taking a different route?**

**Has anyone successfully transitioned into the music industry in their mid-twenties from an unrelated field? What did that process look like?**

**If you had to start over today, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently?**

I’m not necessarily looking for someone to tell me to follow my dreams or that the industry is impossible to break into. I’m looking for honest, practical advice from people who understand the realities of this career path.
I know there probably isn’t one right answer, but I’m feeling a little lost trying to determine which direction makes the most sense, and I’d really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences.

Thank you!!

Is Berklee worth it for an international drummer wanting to build an original rock band?

Hey everyone!

I’m an original rock/alt-rock drummer from Italy with about 6 years of playing experience. I’m currently looking into music colleges abroad to level up my drumming and secondary instrument skills, and Berklee is obviously high on my radar.

However, after doing some research and reading through local subreddits, I’m having a few doubts about whether Boston/Berklee is the right fit for what I want to achieve, and I’d love to get some honest feedback from current students or alumni.

Here is my main concern: I want to play original rock/alternative music and form/join a serious, committed band. While Berklee seems unmatched for talent and instruction (I’ve also looked into doing the Summer Performance Program first), I’ve read a lot of posts saying that Boston’s local music scene has changed a lot. People mention that high living costs have shut down many small venue spaces, and that the underground/DIY rock scene isn't as active as it used to be compared to cities like Philadelphia or Chicago.

So I have a few questions for you guys:

  1. The Scene: For those playing rock/alternative, how easy or hard is it to find gigs for original music in Boston right now? Do you mostly play house shows, or are there actual venues willing to book emerging bands?
  2. The Community: Is it easy to find dedicated, non-pretentious musicians at Berklee who actually want to commit to a solid band project rather than just practicing solo or doing session work?
  3. Alternatives: If my main goal is balancing strong drum instruction with an active, accessible local rock scene, would you still recommend Berklee/Boston, or should I consider other options (like Temple in Philly, BIMM in the UK, etc.)?

I’d really appreciate any insights, reality checks, or advice. Thanks in advance!
