Hi!
I am getting prepared to adopt my first Beardie. I have the tank and understand most things through my research. One thing I just can’t seem to wrap my brain around is the lighting set up.
Current things I have are-
4x2x2 habitst
Slate footing
Basking area
Covered area
Thermometer
(Still need an infrared)
Now lighting, this is what I have so far-
-24 inch reptisun (I believe T5?)
-2 ceramic heat emitters
My question is, how should I set these up on a 4x2x2 tank? And what other bulbs do I need? There’s so many different kinds. Looking for quality over lower price but open to all options. I know I need a basking light , but I’d like to get one that is non light emitting. Essentially I just need lighting help lol. Can you tell me your set ups on a 4x2x2? Including light placement and distance from basking spot etc. Thanks!

I just picked up this little guy yesterday from a coworker who could no longer keep him and we had to drive over 7 hours, so he’s still adjusting and has only eaten like 6 crickets, 4 meal worms, and a couple bites of salad today, and have seen him hanging around his water dish. I weighed him and he only came out at 62g which is smaller than any of my 3 leos. I’m new to owning beardies but have had my leos for 11 years and have taken care of many full grown beardies but I’m not sure how this little guy is looking weight wise. I’m thinking he’s on the lower side and I’m definitely hoping to get some G’s and inches on them. Tank is very bare bones rn for quarantine.

I do not have a bearded dragon, but I want one in the future, what tank size would be okay for one, and would it be better to get one as a baby or an adult? Rn I have a 40g breeder tank and a 60 gallon (48×18×16)

My little adventurer Auri (short for Aurelian) is very active, so you would think that he would take to multiple forms of enrichment. Wrong lol. More often than not, I am met with a classic beardy stare to the tune of "WTF is this?!" Our latest attempt; this greens feeder ball that he refuses to take greens from. Rather he will watch me bat the ball around on the ground, follow it, but never touch it lol. I will call that a draw instead of a win.
Any funny examples of fails or, even better, attempts that worked would be greatly appreciated.

Made an ofrenda for my baby boy Nibbler for the first time and felt the need to share it.
He’s been gone for over 2 years now and I still miss him deeply every single day, it’s the first time I’ve done something like this.
Wanted to see if other people also made something similar for their lost babies and would love to see it.
He would have gone crazy for the bowl of pears and corn. 💕

I grew my beard out and am trying to show my male bearded dragon that I am the dominant male and that the female beardies are mine and not his, however he will not reciprocate my head bobs. I will vigorously and aggressively bob my head at him but i get no response back. Does this mean he accepts me as the alpha male?

Post your enclosures that you keep your dragon in when you take them out for natural daylight.

I clip tip of my girls nails every week, the needle sharp part like I see in all the videos and she dies get some wear and tear in her home but her mails are still this long and feel like it is to long, am I clipping the wrong part? You can see the sharp tip on her middle toe and that is what I am clipping off. How do I shorten them up a little so her toes are not going sideways? The toe on my finger is the longest one.

helloo so i just rescued a beardie (3y/o male) and he was given to me in a 40gal with sand, very dehydrated (loose skin and low energy). i have been able to get him new substrate (bio soil) and get him onto a better diet (bok choy, bell peppers, carrots, arugula, mustard greens, crickets and he’s about to get some hornworms when they come in the mail. when dubia has their stock back he’ll be getting roaches. also planning on getting him some live plants this weekend.) i haven’t been able to get him a new enclosure yet but that’s happening on next payday. to help with the dehydration ive been spraying him and his food with water everyday, gave him a bath this week, sometimes give him droppers of water when i can.
he’s shedding in several spots. definitely seems to be slowing down and basking less as he approaches brumation. still pooping every 1-2 days.
for a about a week now i thought he was sick with something because i noticed him gaping when he is out of his enclosure/not basking. also gaping when he is basking. he just gapes a LOT. but his breathing seems otherwise normal, haven’t noticed any labored breathing or clicking or wheezing. he breathes steadily but quicker than i do (but that’s normal right?)
i’m wondering if maybe it’s just him and he’s just a smiley boy or if i should be worried?
what does it meannn ?? when do i take him to a vet? sos

Earlier today he head bobbed at our 80 pound collie to assert his dominance and she ran out of the room. Good day for Lazarus if I do say so myself.
