I've started playing some days ago, and found this game really amusing. This post is probably an overreaction of a newbie for y'all, but decided to do it anyway.
Just wanted to share my championship team - this is the first league I've made, real players starting in the 2018 draft lottery with the Kings (sadly only got the 7th pick, and traded away to the Lakers on Draft night - they drafted Mikal Bridges, who won two rings with them).
After 5 straight seasons making the Playoffs, peaking in a Conf Finals 3-4 loss as 3rd seed with a squad that featured All-Stars Cassius Winston (who?), Will Barton and Skal Labissiere, the difficulty in handling finances coupled with three subpar seasons whitout making in to the postseason, I got fired.
My options were limited, and I choose the team with the worst record in the league for the last 2 seasons, and therefore the highest chance in a loaded 2026 draft. The Milwaukee Bucks, a team with a bright future ahead with then 2nd pick overall Dylan Harper (63 ovr, 80 pot) and a solid young core. The lottery smiled to us and with the 3rd pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the new Bucks GM selected Darryn Peterson (54/74).
The preseason made me even more optimistic with this team, as the dynamic backcourt grew well over my expectations during the summer, with Harper spurting to 72/84 and Peterson to 63/82. With the additions of seasoned veterans Oladipo and two-times NBA Champion and former two-times All-Star Rodney Hood, we were poised for success - or so I thought: despite great individual seasons from Harper (24/6.5/6, 2 stocks and only 2.2 TO on 37mpg) and Peterson (22/4.6/1.6, 1.5 stocks on 36mpg), the season finished with another rock-bottom record for the Bucks - a 23-59 record and again, the last seed in the East.
I wasn't panicking yet, but to my surprise the Draft Lottery followed real life's changes and we ended up with no chance for a top-5 pick AND falling all the way to the worst possible 12th spot, picking a weak F 43/63 prospect that dropped to 39/59 when season started.
Looking back to the prior season, I just didn't see the double volume-scorer-SG duo taking us to the next level, and made the decision to trade Peterson, who were a worse defender and more turnover-prone. The trade was a real robbery, essentially exchanging Darryn Peterson and filler into a complete 5-man lineup, a 6th man, and 5 future 2nd round picks. The players were:
PG Trae Young (59/59)
SG Ayo Dosunmu (75/76)
SFs Ace Bailey (63/71) and Will Riley (56/66)
F OG. Anunoby (54/54)
FC Caleb Swanigan (59/59)
The final roster was deep, 12 players with 50+ ovr and had a 95/100 Team rating. From there, the core of the roster for the next few years was set and we started having some success, jumping straight to a 51-31 record and 3rd place in the Conference in 2028. Come playoff time we got swept in the Conf Semi to a Detroit team that finished just 1W over us, but let's move on.
The following seasons ended as:
2029 - 46-36/7th, 0-4 in 1st Rd vs CHI (1st)
2030 - 52-30/3rd, 3-4 in Cf Finals vs CHI (1st)
2031 - 49-33/4th, 1-4 in Cf Semi vs CHI (1st)
2032 - 49-33/5th, 0-4 in Cf Semi vs MIN (1st
*The Bulls got us in the first three series, not gonna lie, but next season we finally managed to beat them 4-3 in the first round... Only to lose 0-4 to another 1st seed in the semis.
Without being able to beat Number 1 seeds for 4 straight years, the only choice was to try and get this 1st place ourselves.
By the time, the roster featured:
SG Dylan Harper (78/79), 26yo
- 1x MVP, 5x All-Star, 5x All-Def and best player in the NBA for 3yrs in a row
SG Ayo Dosunmu (65/65), 32yo
- 5x All-Star, 5x All-Def
C Patrick Ngongba II (62/63), 26yo
PF Jarace Walker (61/61), 29yo
G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (59/59), 34yo
- 3x All-Star, 1x All-Def
C Marcis Ponder (57/64), 24yo
SF Will Riley (57/59), 26yo
FC Caleb Swanigan (56/56), 35yo
A good, well rounded roster. But I had to make a choice, and pulled the trigger in the defining trade: packaged Dosunmu, Ngongba II and a 1st rounder for my old employers of the Kings during free-agency time for:
FC Victor Wembanyama (64/66), 29yo
- 7x All-Star, 3x All-Def and 7x BPG Leader
G Dash Danyels (62/67), 25yo
Danyels ended up rising to 67/71 and Wemby stayed stable at 63/63 by the start of regular season. On the court, the potential of this team was clear, but something was missing. By Mid-season, with us holding a solid 31-15 record, another trade sealed the final roster that ended winning it all in June - starter SF Ausar Thompson (57/57) and bench spark-plug SF Melvin Ajinça (53/53), which ended up leading the league in 3P% shooting at a 45.7% clip in 3.6 3PA/g.
We finished the regular season with a 29-7 run that included two 10-game win streaks, in route to a league-best 60-22 record.
In the Playoffs, we rushed past 8th seed DET 4-1 and swept 4th place ATL 4-0. In the Conference Finals, again the Timberwolves, but this time with home-court advantage on our side.
First game, 1-0. The next three games we got absolutely crushed by the opponents.
Down 1-3, looking totally helpless... But some fine-tuning adjusting in the rotation, reducing big men minutes and the magic happened: the comeback, every single game decided by 4 points or less.
That ended up being the real Finals, as the 7th seed Lakers managed to go from a Play-in team all the way to the NBA Finals - where we easily beat them 4-0.
That's it, your Milwaukee Bucks are crowned the 2033 NBA Champions behind Harper's iconic MVP and FMVP Season.
