Hey all, r/Bansuri now has a beginner's wiki available for everyone to view. It may be particularly useful for those that are just getting started with the instrument. The resources for this wiki was obtained from numerous contributors from a post I had made a while back.
I would like to request for members to check it out and provide feedback if you think improvements should be made. If you have feedback/ additions for the wiki, please comment it directly on this post. I will update the wiki with any relevant feedback/ content that is shared here.
You can share anything relevant to playing the bansuri, including:
Please do check if the content you intend to share is already part of the exisiting wiki.
I request anyone to share resources that you have that has helped you through your journey. If it's a scanned pdf or anything similar, try sharing the Google Drive link with us here. If possible, please share resources that are in English so that it can be used by everyone. But if you only have it in other languages, feel free to share them too.

I started learning the flute three months ago and am currently practicing on an E base flute. Here, I’m playing the alankar pattern:
S R G M, S R G M P M G R and so on
I’d love your honest feedback on my blowing technique, tone clarity etc.
How can I improve?

Hello everyone
I love music and instruments. I've trained singing (4-6 years), self-learned the guitar and piano. I want to learn the tabla and the bansuri (I love the tone of it).
How "easy" / do-able is it (with teacher or YT videos) Does it make sense to get the bansuri or should I get a "western"-style flute?
Or is it a overconfident goal? I mean I must say my guitar skills aren't so good either (I can play few solos like Comfortably Numb etc.).

I'm starting a new hobby to learn flute from scratch. Since I've no idea of Tal, sur & classical nuances. I love music, I like to sing but learning flute was always in my bucket list since childhood. It's another form of Sadhna for me through music.
I need suggestion/help in choosing right beginner flute for me. Please let me know if I've selected it right or not.
I'm thinking of buying this from Amazon: Radhe flute 🪈 of pvc fibre material, C Natural, right handed.

I just started learning bansuri, and I feel pain in my left hand (shoulder and wrist) is this normal?

Made the sound and learnt how to hold properly and the covering of holes, can hold 4 holes properly more or less, also I have short breath haha.
Played for around 40mins (with 2breaks) felt out of breath or like no energy.
Learning online but don't know any good sources so went with this yt tutorial
Using c natural middle flute 19.5inches from punam flutes

So I am an intermediate player, and i have started to play for my college band. There are 2 difficulties I am facing -
E bass flute is an advancement that I wanted to but when I actually practised on it, my fingers could not even reach fully till Pa and under the time constraints, it would be impossible to learn.
So is it worth buying an E scale medium flute just for this song? How common are songs based on that scale?

I see a lot of people transposing online, even in ICM. Wouldn’t that sound off on a flute tuned to just intonation? Is the equi tempered flute becoming the new normal ? where are people buying them?

I have been playing flute for sometime now and i have decent basics but i keep having trouble playing bollywood.
I have few questions that i need help with ik the biggest answer is practice but what do i practice?
How do you get better at playing bollywood music?
I generally do raag but that doesn’t get you on the stage and societies.
How to play filers and provide background support and improvise?
I feel it needs a lot of creativity and impromptu inspiration to create phrases and execute them.
How to get that sweetness and flow?
I can hold notes for 20-25 seconds i can use tonguing techniques and have been practicing meend gamak for a while but it still doesn’t give the finish that sounds good

Focusing on intonation and breath control. I think the shuddh ma is better than my last post here.

I’m interested in making a friend to study the bansuri with. Do our research and find a guru that we can attend classes online together on zoom or something then practice together here and there etc... pretty much a friend to keep each other accountable with the practice.
A little bit about me. 28M and live in the US. I play all kinds of musical interments including a little bit of western flute so I’m not completely starting from zero in the sense that I already know some of the basic that can somewhat be translated to the bansuri such as getting proper embouchure.
This is very light hearted and friendly, I just want to have fun while making music and making friends 😁

Anyone have used any sound absorbers or reflectors that helped them minimize the sound.
I'm a beginner and do understand that whatever I'm practicing isn't going to be blissful to everyone and I don't want folks at home start hating the thing that I love.
