PROTEIN/FITNESS PRODUCT REVIEW MEGATHREAD: thoughts, opinions and reccomendations required

Post image
14 Upvotes

I've been thinking of doing this for a while now.

I've tried a pretty wide range of fitness and protein products over the years, and I also have a decent amount of experience writing reviews in the peripherals space, so I thought, why not actually put that to use here?

The idea is simple: I'll review protein powders, snacks, oats, and other products I've already tried, while also buying/trying products you guys recommend. Eventually, I'll link all of these reviews together into one massive megathread.

Over time, I'd like this to become a proper resource people can come back to whenever they're considering buying something, instead of having to dig through random posts and reviews every single time.

I'm not limiting this to just whey either. Protein powders, plant proteins, clear whey, protein bars/snacks, oats, peanut butter, high-protein foods, supplements , honestly anything fitness/nutrition related you guys think is worth trying.

I'll try covering different price ranges too, especially products people here are actually considering rather than just reviewing whatever happens to be popular. For example, I haven't found enough proper coverage on clear wheys, some underrated oats/snack bars, and heck, even a lot of whey proteins.

Also, I don't want these reviews to just be my opinion. When I post a review, if you've tried the same product, drop your experience in the comments as well - taste, digestion, value, mixability, whether you'd buy it again, whatever.

I think relying on one person's opinion would be unfair anyway. This way, someone finding the review 6 months later won't just have my take; they'll have a bunch of experiences from the community in one place.

Once we've pooled enough posts, I'll organise everything into a Product Review Megathread with links to each review so it's easy to navigate and hopefully becomes a genuinely useful resource for the sub.

So yeah, drop your recommendations below. Doesn't matter if it's something you love, something you're curious about, or something you think is absolute dogshit and want someone else to suffer through.

I'll start picking products from the comments and reviewing them.

SO FIRE AWAY :)

ANNOUNCEMENT : What would you guys like to see more of on r/AskFitnessIndia?

We want to make the subreddit more useful and have most India-specific fitness information available in one place.

Would you guys be interested in us regularly sharing/crossposting useful stuff from other communities, such as:

  • Good deals on protein, supplements and fitness products
  • New product launches & announcements
  • Useful guides/resources
  • Relevant fitness news
  • Good discussions/posts from other subreddits
  • Would you want brands to have their reps here to improve visibility incase you have a complaint/concern regarding a product?

Basically, if something useful gets posted elsewhere, would you prefer seeing it here as well rather than having to follow multiple communities?

Also, what else would you like us to add/change? Drop any suggestions below.

Discussion How do you guys manage your daily protein without every meal becoming a whole project?

I've been looking at protein intake lately and honestly, the maths gets exhausting pretty quickly. You calculate breakfast, figure out lunch, then realise your evening snack was basically chai and whatever was lying around. And somehow you're still short by dinner.

I feel like protein gets discussed mostly in terms of whey, eggs and chicken, but what about people who eat regular ghar ka khana? Dal, roti, sabzi, dahi etc. can contribute too, but I'm curious how people actually put it all together.

Even products like protein atta, including Milld, have started showing up in this conversation, but I'm wondering how much people rely on everyday food versus supplements.

For those who've been consistent with their protein intake for a while, what does a realistic day of eating look like for you? Especially if you're vegetarian.

Help me gym β†’ sweat β†’ shower β†’ sleep... are you guys really wearing the same fitness band through all of this?

trying to keep my first proper fitness band around the β‚Ή3-4k range because i mainly want sleep/workout/passive tracking and don't really need another full smartwatch.

qore 2 keeps ending up on my shortlist, but the nylon/velcro strap made me realise something stupidly basic 😭

gym β†’ sweaty strap β†’ shower β†’ somehow put the same thing back on β†’ sleep in it??

are people actually rinsing these after every workout? swapping straps? waiting for them to dry?

because the whole β€œwear it 24/7 and forget about it” thing sounds great until you're putting something damp back on your wrist before bed lol

i like the idea of passive tracking enough that i know i'll want to wear it most of the day.

just trying to understand what the actual gym + shower + sleep routine looks like after the novelty wears off.

Want to lose 12 Kgs. These are the lifestyle changes I made- how am I doing?

β€’ Upvotes

Hey all.

I’m 27F, 72Kgs. Started gym 2 months ago. Took a trainer 1 week ago. I’m not new to the gym, but this time I’m taking it super seriously. Weight goal is 58-60kgs.

Breakfast- I skip it usually since I’m not a breakfast person. Usually dry fruits

Lunch 2-3pm - I’ve cut out 1 roti out of my 3 roti diet/ 1/3rd of rice that I usually have. Sabzi as usual. to compensate the skipped portion- I have chaas with some unflavoured protein + sprouts.

Dinner- protein shake with milk (30g protein) at 8pm and at 10pm normal meal roti/rice with sabzi (same as lunch 2 roti and rice with reduced quantity) . Dinner usually has some protein component.

Movement- I go to gym at 6. Strength training 4 times a week. A 30-40 min walk post dinner. 1 km each walk pre-gym and post gym. So total walking is around 4-5Km. Have weak knees so can’t do much HIIT.

Overall I’ve reduced carb portions by 1/3rd of what I usually used to have. Added post dinner walks. Gym with trainer. Added protein component in meals.

Discussion Update: 5K to 50K Running Challenge πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

β€’ Upvotes

First of all, thank you, everyone, for your responses and feedback!

After reading your comments, I realised that increasing the distance by 5 km every weekend might not be practical for everyone. So, I've refined the idea to make it more flexible.

Here's the new plan:

  • Start with 5 km first weekend.
  • Gradually increase your distance each week according to your fitness level and convenience.
  • There's no fixed weekly increment. Increase by 10%, 2.5 km, or whatever feels manageable for you.
  • Keep progressing towards the ultimate goal of 50 km in a single session.

You can run continuously or use run-walk intervals. Everyone can run at their preferred location and pace, and share their progress to motivate each other.

Let's connect! We can share our running plans, diet, recovery tips, and everything else related to this journey. Let's support each other, stay consistent, and complete this challenge together! πŸ’ͺ

No pressure, no fixed timeline. Just consistent progress. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

I have been going to the gym for a year. For context, I used to weigh 87 kg, and now I an 72 kg. Any suggestions on how to improve my back and which areas I’m lacking?
