🛠️ Project / Build I vibe coded a multiplayer game with limited coding experience

A test of Fable (and later Opus 5) turned into a multiplayer tank shooter - it's heavily inspired by the tank element from Battlefield 1942 and the round-by-round build system from Overwatch 2’s Stadium mode.

A little more about the game:
You join a game and enhance your tank, then you go out and destroy the enemy while hunting for salvage/upgrades which is used to enhance your tank even further (balance patches pending).

Some of the features:

  • 6 different tanks (Tiger 1 is a beast)
  • 3 maps (a desert, grass and snow map with destructible terrain
  • Customisation of tanks
  • Matchmaking system, lag compensation system, ballistic shells (direct hits only), hit multiplier regions (many tanks fall on a single rear hit)
  • Bots who backfill if theres not enough real players
  • And a lot of other things :)

Feel free to try it out – I’ll personally greet you ingame.

I would love to hear what you think, and kindly report bugs if you find any. Its currently optimised for desktop, but should work on mobile too.

You made this with ai?

Oh yes - Claude Code (Fable and later Opus 5)

What did you ask it

I started with some proof-of-concept prompts, and then added on top of that. So many prompts in total - though I'm sure it could have been done in less prompts. It was also a learning journey for myself...

I was in an argument with someone yesterday that insisted what you just stated is impossible. That you can’t possibly rough in and then refine from prompting alone. They were super duper convinced. So congratulations on doing the impossible! :-)

Can I ask it to make me a game? Is Claude the best in programming?

Which you don't have.

Where's your game?

Isn’t this just a simpler version of battle tank?

I swear there was one earlier on the PS1 and then even earlier with 80s graphics

Yo Battletanx???

Wow, this is surprisingly good for a vibe coded browser game actually. How did you host this online? Do you have a background in dev, or did you just have AI do all of it for you?

Thanks - I know some high level stuff. Its hosted at AWS :)

NICE WORK. now days any one can create like this if they have any premium ai plan they can make it quickly

It looks like it too, nice work 👍👍👍

Did it make procedural art assets, too?

Looks super dope. How long did you work on it?

2

u/IamHuggos Jul 29 '26

1,5 week - like 2-3 hours a day or so

Where's the match hosted? Client side?

1

u/hagerino Jul 30 '26

maybe one client is the host

VPS server i guess cause it looks responsive enough

This looks amazing. May I ask, how did you create the models and maps? Was this done through Claude, as well?

Also, which game engine did you use? Thank you!

Lol let me guess, WebGL and every model is just colored primitives.

You know, I'm actually thankful that somehow AI is generally used by stupid people. If it were smart people using AI, then we'd really be fucked sideways.

Already looks more fun than war thunder

Pretty cool. Do you feel like you understand how it works to some extent? The thing with vibe coding is it’s very easy for the code to get so far past your comprehension quickly and a bunch of small inefficiencies and poor coding optimizations can pile up and become a pain to fix even with an LLM.

Nobody ever fixes these games. They are pushed out once for marketing AI tools and then thrown away.

1

u/eljefe3030 Jul 29 '26

Probably right

1

u/rmsaday Jul 30 '26

Generally speaking though, AI is better at writing clean and well documented human-readable code than... humans.

1

u/fgreen68 Jul 29 '26

They are a pain to fix today. Next year it'll be easy. Sometimes it helps if you use a different AI to do the fixing.

I do. And I believe it’s about running a robust test setup. I have 100++ e2e and headless tests

u/EC36339 Jul 30 '26

100? That's cute.

How many prompts did this take?

u/ajahajahs Jul 30 '26

wow impressive work on vibe coding! Can i ask which part of the work you had to do it yourself? For example, did AI also did the deployment work for you? Did you containerise it yourself?

I can’t tell

How are people already cracked at this game wth
