Sad to see people becoming reliant in a technology that they will have to pay for for the rest of their lives. And it won't be cheap either.
Be mindful about how much you actually know about a topic, if you notice AI is filling knowledge gaps then reconsider what you're doing.

It's actually pretty cheap at $20/month rn.

It's basically free if you run local models. There's some electrical cost, but if you're already running the system anyway, eh.

Yes, but you will still have to buy decent hardware. But luckily there are providers that host those models for you almost for free

Every new technology is cheap at first

u/mmmsplendid Jun 11 '26
Then they get expensive when they need to drive profits to upscale. Then they get cheap when they need to maximise market share.

u/Sufficient_Bit_8636 Jun 12 '26
its always the opposite, what? Even AI is expensive its being heavily subsidized, what you are paying right now is like 1/4 actual costs

u/DonBonsai Jun 13 '26
No, it's usually the opposite: technology starts expensive but eventually becomes cheap.
The difference is that modern companies are able to leverage venture capital to subsidize the product in order to stimulate growth.
2
u/quimeygalli Jun 12 '26
look up how much companies are losing by giving ai to you for that cheap. You would be paying over $200 if they weren't subsidizing their own product.

Oh you mean like electricity? Interesting take boomer!

What about gasoline and fossil fuels? Maybe we should go back to horses and chop wood for our stoves too.

Education is the last time being 92% accurate is celebrated.

u/NonagonInfiTitty Jun 13 '26
For real! It’s hard to convince people these days that in work, 95% is not a solid A but an incomplete job.

u/GhostPilotdev Jun 12 '26
The $20/month is subsidized pricing while labs fight for market share, same playbook as Uber and streaming before they jacked rates. The real cost shock isn't paying for it, it's losing the ability to function without it after a few years of offloading.

And they got us all... I don't know how I'd be studying without gemini
1
u/rickylancaster Jun 18 '26
The way you were studying before gemini which was relatively like 15 minutes ago in the grand scheme?

u/Pitiful-Hawk-7870 Jun 12 '26
Yeah man, my internet and electricity bills are eating into my AI budget. Sucks.

And it won't be cheap either.
May I introduce you to... every single technology that has ever existed in history and how it has become progressively cheaper. Like are you even fucking serious dude? Think for 5 minutes before posting.

This is pretty sad.
This illegitimize your diploma in fact. You basically say that you don't really deserve the credentials, Claude did.

The irony here is that only that red one is real the other ones have been added with AI
