Suggested Artemis Cosmos Tutorials?

Hi there! I've enjoyed the Original Artemis 1 at various Cons, & even a couple of LAN parties, but as we're having trouble finding support for it (as well as to support the creator in updated software), my Crew have all decided to purchase Artemis Cosmos on Steam. At $7, it wasn't a hard decision: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2467840/Artemis_Cosmos/

That said, while we had fun playing it at Cons, when we did our own LAN parties we were mostly derping around with missions that seemed like unfinished mods in that we could never get the stories to advance. From our experience at Cons, we know that there are whole campaigns, & even tutorial missions that used to exist.

So my question is, for a Crew looking to get into Artemis Cosmos, what scripted pre-made missions would you all suggest? We're doing another LAN party this weekend, & so I'd love any advice on any mods, campaigns, etc as this is the first time we'll be doing Cosmos. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, I do not know of any tutorial-like missions that would walk you through how each station works. I think the closest thing would be the "help" tab that shows in the upper-right while you're in-game, which contains a few paragraphs explaining what each station does.

As for a good type of mission for beginners to start out playing: I recommend the "LegendaryMissions" mission, with the Siege, Single Front, or Double Front map type, and low difficulty. It's the simplest kind of mission (just defend the bases and stay alive), and at easy difficulty you should have plenty of time for people to get familiar with each console. Once you get more familiar with the game and feel daring enough, then you could try out different map types or missions.

If you want even more Cosmos missions to play, the official forums have some fan-made missions you can download: https://artemis.forumchitchat.com/?forum=309882

There are also a few Cosmos mods which have been posted to the same forum, which get categorized in the forum's off-topic section: https://artemis.forumchitchat.com/?forum=309501

Note that these forum pages will also include missions and mods for Artemis version 2.8; these are NOT compatible with Artemis Cosmos. The posts you want should say they're a "Cosmos Mission" or "Cosmos Mod" or something like that.

In general, I recommend getting familiar with the vanilla game first before you add more missions or mods into the mix. The sole exception to this is the Unofficial Patch (which I developed); since it just fixes bugs and crashes, I recommend installing it sooner rather than later (link to forum post: https://artemis.forumchitchat.com/post/mod-artemis-cosmos-unofficial-patch-13860739 ).

Also be sure to budget some time for troubleshooting technical issues when setting up the game this weekend. Note that the game doesn't integrate with Steam's "join a multiplayer game" stuff that you're probably used to; connections between games are done more manually, in pretty much the same way as how Minecraft does it, so getting a client to find the right server can be unreliable sometimes. As long as all machines are on the same LAN and their firewall isn't blocking the game, then things should work fine, though you never really know until you've tested it.

Good luck and happy flying!

You could also look up the United Stallar Navy, they play Artemis, EmptyEpsilon and a couple other space bridge games. Maybe setting up a time to play with them could help get you started?
