Hi all, I’m Laurie from Brighton in the UK. Earlier this month I roller skated solo across the Netherlands, from Scheveningen Pier to the German border, 239km in total. Day 2 was Utrecht to Arnhem.

It was 65km through De Bilt, Zeist, Driebergen and Ede, then the forest paths into Arnhem. I got wet cobbles, a rainbow, a wrong turn into the woods and the only hills I found in the whole country. I also very nearly fell over on a cobbled patch, and found out why some flags round here are hung upside down.

I rolled into Arnhem at about half four and honestly loved it. The old centre is beautiful and the city felt really lively, which I now realise was because Hard Bass was on at the GelreDome that night. Of all the days to turn up! The hostel up the hill was completely full, so after skating up that hill for nothing I ended up paying £150 for a hotel room. Lesson learned: check the events calendar before you skate into a city.

I filmed the whole day and put it together as a video. I’ll pop the link in the comments in case anyone fancies seeing their city from a pair of skates. I’m also raising money for Young Epilepsy, a charity that helped me and my family when I was going through scans.

Did anyone here go to Hard Bass? And if you’re local, where should I have gone for food that evening? Next time I’m back I’ll do Arnhem properly.

Zoals de titel luid. Wat denk je van het Arnhemse centrum? Is er genoeg aanbod? Wat mist er echt? Waarom zou je wel of niet naar het centrum gaan?

Kan om winkels gaan, unieke sellingpoints of om looks/faciliteiten.
Stiekem wel nieuwsgierig.

Zelf kom ik namelijk niet veel in het centrum omdat het minder interessant is dan bijvoorbeeld een Utrecht of Den Bosch. Mogelijk winkelaanbod maar ook weinig te doen is naast shoppen in het centrumgebied.

Ik ben op zoek naar een nieuwe tandarts. Ik bel zo juist eentje op in Zuid. Nemen ze alleen mensen aan die 2 keer per jaar komen. Prima natuurlijk, maar niet wat ik zoek.

Zijn er hier mensen die naar een fijne tandarts gaan 1 keer per jaar?

Net als veel Arnhemmers een groot fan van just smashed bij de oranjestraat. Deze is echter al een tijdje dicht.. weet iemand waarom?

Suggesties voor goede en betaalbare airco plaatsers? Heb je een goede ervaring met iemand?

Enig idee wat de kosten zijn voor twee airco’s laten plaatsen? 1 voor de bovenverdieping en 1 voor beneden.

Is iemand al naar het Sprookjesfestival geweest in Arnhem? Is dit de moeite waard om te bezoeken?

Ik wil graag met mijn kind van 3 jaar gaan. Volgens mij is het festival vrij verspreid en moet alles met OV doen. Wat zijn de leukste plekken om te bezoeken (als het al de moeite waard is)?

Ik ben 26m en sport eigenlijk al best een tijd (fitness). diegene met wie ik ging is helaas niet meer down om te sporten en ik zoek eigenlijk iemand die het leuk lijkt om samen te sporten!

Ik weet zelf goed wat te doen in de gym maar vind in mijn eentje gaan gewoon echt niks aan, gewoon ongezellig en merk dat samen sporten voor zowel de mentaal als het fysiek erg leuk en fijn is!

Heb zelf een abbonement bij sportcity in Arnhem-Noord, bij de Velperweg (oude AKZO gebouw in de buurt) en sport 2-4 keer per week ongeveer een uurtje maar kan soms ook wat langer, geacht hoe het lichaam voelt haha. Vaak overdag maar ben erg flexibel.

Mijn doel voor nu is gewichtsverlies maar dat bereik ik altijd door krachttrainen en een klein beetje cardio (fuck cardio haha) maar zie het vooral als een mooie uitlaatklep en lekker bewegen!

kom zelf uit een periode waar sporten en bewegen minder hoog op de ladder stonden en dat voel je dan gelijk :(

Hi all, I (M25) just moved to Arnhem for work two weeks ago and I'm looking for a german speaker to practice my german speaking skills. I am a native dutch speaker myself, but I enjoyed learning german for my internship in Münster. I can already speak it quite well (at least B2), but I would like to maintain it so I can use it at work and on vacation. We could arrange it by meeting in a cafe or going for a walk once in a while, something like that.

If you want to practice your dutch, we could combine the two by speaking some dutch too.

Weet iemand waar je in Arnhem betrouwbaar je messen kunt laten slijpen?

Goedemiddag, wie heeft er goede ervaringen met een (lokale) installateur van warmtepompen? Ik ben op zoek naar een bedrijf wat meedenkt met de totale installatie (pomp + verwarming), installeert en onderhoudt.

Is dit inderdaad vanaf Valkenhuizen? En weet iemand waarom? :)

Ik heb een horloge met een barst in het glas. Wie weet waar ik dat kan laten repareren? Heb het bij Siebel gevraagd maar die weigerden omdat het niet een merk is dat zij zelf verkopen. Is er een zaak die zoiets wel gepareerd ondanks dat het niet hun merk is?

Zoek een tandarts die gespecialiseerd is in het verwijderen van oude amalgaam vullingen in de wijde omgeving Arnhem / Nijmegen.

Ik kom graag een praktijk te weten, die hier aandacht voor heeft.

Ik ben op zoek naar CD's die ik zelf kan branden maar koop dit soort dingen liever gewoon in een winkel dan online. Ik zou natuurlijk bij bol/amazon/123inkt kunnen bestellen maar als iemand nog een winkel in het centrum weet zou dat top zijn!

Kruidvat en Action lijken het niet meer te hebben. De enige die ik kan bedenken die het misschien kan hebben is radiopiet.

Met een groepje (ca. 12 m/v, 30-50 jr) gaan we regelmatig een weekend kamperen en/of een dag weg in de koudere maanden. We hebben ruimte voor nieuwe mensen die er plezier in hebben om zelf dingen te bedenken en een liefde voor de natuur hebbben.

Hello, I had a pretty crazy experience today and I was wondering if someone experienced it as well?

I was walking on my way to plus in Kastanjelaan at 20:06 when a very ordinary, well dressed young women (around 18yo and 1.75-1.80cm tall) came out of the church in n31 and starts walking really close to me. I thought maybe I was walking too slow so I stopped and went to the side so she could walk before me but she said I'm not walking too slow. I continued walking and she walked after me, I got into plus and she was right behind me still, I just needed tomatoes so I got them and walked around a bit, I asked my boyfriend if he needed something from the shop, she was still right behind me. I started to get worried because she just wouldn't let me go, I went to pay and she was still right behind me, staring at me with her eyes wide open. I paid and walked as fast as I could out and then she ran after me to get close to me again. I stopped and asked her why was she following me and she said she isn't following me, with that scary look again. I started to get really nervous and then my boyfriend (who luckily was nearby) came and we both just stood, me and her, she stood so close to me, as if we were friends or something. Then he stood next to her and asked her why she was following me, she said again that she wasn't and that she was just going in the same direction I was. Then he told her that she can walk before us and she said no. After that she started getting even closer, our feet almost touched, she said that we've known her for years, that we were mean to her in church or something, that part is a bit blurry. For the record- we moved to arnhem not long ago, we've never met her, never been to that church. She also said we we're speaking German and then said we were speaking russian... We called a friend of ours who is Dutch and he talked to her and just said- she's crazy. He tried to tell her that if she won't go away he'd push her, she shouted she'll push him back and so he did and she didn't mind at all, it was as if she didn't feel anything. We said that were going to call the police (and we did) so she finally left, idk if it was because we called the cops or if she was just done because she walked away very calm, slowly while looking down on her phone.

We talked to the police, explained everything and we know now what to do if it happens again and everything is saved in the system...

Anyway, I was just wondering if this happened to someone before? What are some advice you have? How did you manage your anxiety after it happened?

And I honestly wish and hope that she will receive the help and support she needs
