Fuck ICE and Fuck Trump

Trump, still legally a found guilty of sexually abusingJean Carroll (RAPE, according to Judge Lewis Kaplan, who wrote that the jury's findings established that Trump had raped Carroll in the ordinary, modern usage of the term, explaining that New York's statutory definition at the time was unusually narrow.) and overall immoral piece of shit. ICE, basically immoral morons too afraid to join the military and somehow too stupid to join non federal public safety organizations, but just greedy or racist enough to sign up to terrorize communities.

From his and his ilks eventual ashes, may something better take root.

how long are you running your 1 GPH emitters in edible raised beds right now?

EAST VALLEY PHX

This is our first year using a drip system and we are having really mixed results. Some vegetables are showing strong vegetative growth. Others, almost non existent.

Growing kale, lettuce, tomatoes, chard, green onions, green beans.

I know we've got a lot of rain here in the east valley and I'm wondering if we are over watering.

The soil is certainly never "wet" but its definitely moist enough that I can form a bit of a ball with it.

I believe the extremely slow growth in our leafy greens is signaling we are not letting the soil dry out well enough.

I know water demands vary greatly, depending on soil, which direction the garden is facing, but I'm trying to get a rough idea what y'all are doing.

I will say this : when we do the finger test, we are not allowing for the top two inches to dry out fully, and I'm thinking we should.

We've tried meter sticks but they really aren't super accurate.

Our garden is south facing, using 1 GPH emitters, in 20 square foot beds (8x2.5). Our soil is fairly moisture retentive.

Everything I read says most vegetables want between 1-2 inches per week, including rain fall

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance everyone, and happy gardening!

Quick survey: How do you water your garden in the Arizona heat?

Hi everyone! :)

I'm a college student & my marketing class team is researching how people water their home gardens, and what would make that easier. We're doing this survey for a hypothetical product.

The survey takes about 4 minutes. It’s anonymous, and we don’t collect names or emails. It’s only for our class project, not for any company, and we are not making money off of this.

Favorite Nurseries?

I’m in Glendale and I’m looking for your favorite place to buy plants. I’m willing to drive a bit, we’re trying to get our yard ready to get married in it so we’ll drive a bit if you know of somewhere really cool. Thank you 🌵❤️

EDIT: Wow, thank you for all the responses!! I’m compiling a list of all of the recommended nurseries, I’d like to visit all of them! I meant to make it to the Desert Botanical Garden sale but I’ll have to wait for the next one, my baby won’t tolerate a drive that long yet. If anyone has been attending these sales the last few days and getting cool/rare stuff I think we’d all love to see you post a haul 👀 ❤️

Trailing rosemary care in Az

Hello. I just newly bought a potted trailing rosemary from the nursery and I was wondering how to care for it in Arizona’s current climate condition. I plan to keep it in a pot for decorative purposes. Thanks

What’s wrong with my pecan tree

Post image

I assume the broken leaves are from the hail the other day but the leaves are a bit curled, some are brown, and a few have white spots. The tree is about a year old, we do a deep water for 5 hours once a week, plus it gets irrigation water once a month.

Where to transplant?

Dug these up today because they were in an area a bunch of trucks will be next week. I’d like to move them but not sure what location is best since they’re all immature. One I believe is a barrel cactus and the rest I think are Prickly Pear. Thanks for any advice!

Potted Citrus

I recently potted some small smaller citrus trees (bearss lime and Cara Cara) into wooden, round 26 gallon containers. I followed advice I could find online that said to use a citrus soil and add extra perlite. I used the miracle-gro cactus, palm, and citrus soil and mixed in a little extra perlite. I have them set up nicely with a drip line and have them scheduled every three days to water somewhat deeply.

I noticed tonight the pots drain quite quickly. After the soil gets damp all the way through, it’s almost as if the water runs right through and isn’t retained much. This is after 10 minutes of drip line watering so not a large amount of water. The water running through is clear and the soil is staying retained in the container, not running out the bottom with the water.

They have started some leaf curl and seem dry. I’m going to increase to every other day watering and maybe even do every day.

Any advice? The extra perlite to the mix was probably unnecessary…

Came home from work after yesterdays storm, and almost all of my totem pole cactus in my front and back yard look like this.

Could the hail have done this? What the hell happened? I’m so confused, and sad.
There’s also a ton of splits and damage from the hail all over them.
I go out and look at my cacti pretty often, and was just out there pulling weeds 2 days ago, there was nothing wrong with any of my totem poles.
They are in grounds, but like 10 feet from each other at least.

Accessability Transcription:

Big chunks of the cacti are just battered out. The force of the impact is impressive af.

But this is very survivable damage for these plants.

Only one of my grafts got knocked off.

I feel like I got off lucky tbh.

Emery Oak rhizomes?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Since I moved in I have been digging up concrete and removing heavy stone cover and much other debris. I believe the plants are starting to respond to living in a garden rather than a parking lot. I saw a couple of shoots before summer here but recently there are a couple of dozen at least. Some are very tiny still. My understanding is the rhizomes, if that is what these are, usually don’t take well to being cut off their mom. Does the tree want to surround itself with dozens of smaller oak trees over the years? I don’t understand how this is beneficial. Can I replant these?

I just took a direct hit from the storm. The hail defoliated EVERYTHING. 😭🪾🤯

I took some pictures in the front yard using the night sight on my phone. From the first hint of raindrops to full blown hail storm, I had barely enough time to grab the tortoise; she was sleeping under a bush, and it wouldn't have been good for her to have ice pile up around her after it was 90° all day.

#1 the sunn hemp actually seems to have done fine. The coyote gourd which was just starting to bloom and sprawl appears shredded under the hail.

#2 I think I'll make a snowman.

#3 the hail accumulation around the weed a) looks pretty cool and b) might make it easier to appease the HOA/landlord.

#4 this moringa used to have leaves. So did the amaranth.

I have bougainvilleas around my garden and saw this. She really put the nest out in the open. I hope she survives the next 2 days of rain we may or may not get. I didn’t know hummingbirds laid eggs this late in the year.
