I'm a few months into my mini-aquarium hobby. I started with a 10l tank and the intention of a plant-only decoration (I'm keen gardener). And that turned into multiple Mason jars, an outdoor pot pond, a whole new world of plants to grow (and occasionally kill), you get the picture.
Then a few tiny ramshorns hitchhiked in, and I thought I'd keep those for fun...
And I'm a biologist by profession, so the idea of nitrogen cycles fascinated me, so why not just see if I could get my little startup tank cycled? And so on.
Now I have a 25l tank - very much jungle-style; no neat aquascaping for me - that houses four juvenile (and apparently very happy, healthy) Amanos, a couple of nerites and however many tiny ramshorns happen to be crawling around at any one time. No intention to have fish; I'm an invertebrate lover.
Really good populations of worms, copepods etc. Water is nice and stable. Shrimp molt perfectly and all snails merrily laying eggs.
I have set up a rock and wood algae farm in my old 10l tank, to swap in food treats for the shrimp and snails. It's a really hothouse.
Anyway, saying hello, wondering where this ends (I'm already eyeing up my spare bedroom for a bigger tank), and wondering if there is anything interesting to put in my startup 10l tank that currently works as an algae farm? Recommend your cool snails!
