3 months in...392 downloads, $198 total. What else should I do?

Post image
6 Upvotes

First app, solo, launched July 31. Pokémon card collection tracker.

Where I'm at:

  • 392 downloads, 19.5K impressions, 1.34K page views
  • About 74% of downloads come from App Store search. Haven't spent a dollar on ads or reached out to a single creator
  • $198 in proceeds, 74 In-App Purchases (essentially 30 trials, 10 conversions, 15 renewals, and 10 "Bolts" purchases)
  • 5 subscribers at $7.99/mo
  • Day 1 download to paid was 6.19% in August. It's 1.67% now
  • 2 refunds, both of them Apple just granted without a word (Which I assume is normal in this. Thanks, Apple.)

The weird part is that acquisition keeps getting better and conversion keeps getting worse. Impressions and downloads are the highest they've ever been. Same paywall, same price the whole time.

I've found and fixed two real problems already. My paywall was defaulting to the $49.99 yearly instead of the $7.99 monthly, which was not how I meant it to be, and conversions went up immediately when I switched it. I also had no billing grace period turned on, so failed charges were just silently killing conversions.

The other thing is my revenue is split. There's a subscription and there's a consumable currency for extra pack openings. Roughly half my revenue is consumables. My two biggest spenders ever, $80 and $33, both spent most of it on consumables, and both bought them while subscribed or on a trial. One guy/girl cancelled their trial and then came back a week later and dropped $33 on consumables.

Stuff I'm stuck on:

  1. Four of my last six trials that made it to day 7 failed with billing errors. Is that just normal bad luck with payment methods or does it sound like a StoreKit/RevenueCat config thing? How would you even check?
  2. Thinking about killing the 7-day trial and doing $2.99 or $3.99 for the first month instead. Reasoning is that if you charge at signup the person is right there to fix a declined card, instead of it failing a week later when they've forgotten about it. Anyone done this? Did you lose enough people at the top to make it not worth it?
  3. If consumables are outperforming the subscription, should I just lean into that instead of trying to fix the subscription?

Happy to post any number anyone wants to see.

I built something that most people laughed at, but it made me $10K

When I told people I was building a tool that turns blog posts into videos, most of them laughed.

"Who needs that? Just hit record," one friend said.

But I kept noticing the same thing: writers pouring hours into brilliant posts that only a few hundred people ever read.

So I built Blog2Video anyway, late nights after client work, one rendering bug at a time.

The first version was clunky, and the first demo crashed halfway through.

Then a finance writer tried it, and his week-old article became a polished video in minutes.

He shared it, his audience grew, and he told two other writers about it.

They told their friends, and suddenly I had paying customers who had never heard of me.

A few months later I checked the dashboard: $10,000 in revenue from the idea people laughed at.

Mobile app at $82 MRR, 5K+ organic downloads, $100 budget: should I run Google Play ads?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m a solo dev and I’d love some advice on what to do next with my app and a small budget.

The app

  • A productivity mobile app for n8n users
  • Features: n8n instance monitoring, plus provisioning for users who don’t have an n8n instance yet
  • Launched on Google Play in early April and on the App Store in early July

Current metrics (verified RevenueCat link at the bottom)

  • MRR: $82 (peaked around $100 last month, then dropped)
  • Active subscriptions: 15
  • Active trials: 5
  • New customers (last 28 days): ~1,110
  • Active customers: ~1,986
  • 5K+ downloads on Play Store, all organic (no ads, no social media)
  • 80%+ of my revenue comes from Google Play

The problem

  1. MRR dropped from ~$100 to ~$82 and I don’t know why.
  2. Feedback is hard to get. Last month I emailed 400+ users (including churned ones) asking for feedback, and got very few replies and nothing really actionable.
  3. Many installs, few conversions: roughly 1,100 new users a month but only ~15 paying subscribers.

My plan and budget
I have $100 to spend. My current idea is to run a Google Play (UAC) ads campaign, since that’s where most of my revenue comes from.

My questions

  1. Is it worth spending $100 on Google Play ads at this stage, or would that budget be better used elsewhere (Reddit, n8n community, content, etc.)?
  2. How do I get honest feedback from users who churn or never reply to emails? (in-app survey, cancellation prompt, something else?)
  3. With this install-to-paid ratio, should I focus on fixing onboarding/paywall first before spending anything on acquisition?
  4. Any ideas on what could be causing the MRR drop?

Any advice or similar experiences would be really appreciated. Happy to answer questions.

Verified metrics: https://verified.revenuecat.com/n8nhubmobile

Thanks!

My videos are getting views but no conversions. Here are 3 types of content worth trying.

A lot of people are getting views on their videos, but those views aren’t turning into customers.

Their videos get thousands, sometimes millions of views, but very few people visit their website, sign up, or buy anything.

Getting attention and getting customers are two different things.

If you’re using short-form videos to promote your App or SaaS, try these 3 types of content:

1. Warning Content
Show people the mistakes they’re making and what they could lose by ignoring them.

2. Value Content
Share practical tips, useful tools, or solutions people can use immediately.

3. Proof Content
Show real results, customer success stories, or what your product can actually do.
Warning creates urgency.
Value attracts potential users.
Proof builds trust.

Don’t just make videos that people want to watch. Make videos that give people a reason to use your product.

Marketing How do you approach ASO when launching a new app?

Hey everyone, I’m about to launch a hiking app. I’ve been asking about getting the first users, and ASO keeps coming up.

How do you approach it when starting from zero? Mainly wondering how you choose keywords, what to focus on before launch, and whether any tools are worth using.

Would love to hear what actually worked for your apps and any mistakes to avoid. Thanks!

Has anyone tested country-based pricing for their app?

Im seeing noticeably higher churn from my customers in mexico compared to other markets, and im wondering if price is the issue. Has anyone experimented with lowering subscription prices in specific countries? Did it actually reduce churn or improve revenue, or did it just lower what you earned per user?

Growth Is SEO even worth it for apps? Real web-to-app conversion rates?

Hey everyone,

I'm the solo founder of an iOS calorie tracker app and I've been putting a lot of work into SEO for our website: calculators, landing pages and blog posts.

I asked ChatGPT what a realistic web-to-app conversion looks like, and it said that with 10,000 clicks across a mix of calculator pages, landing pages and blog articles, you'd typically get around 100–150 installs. That's roughly 1–1.5%.

Honestly, that seems really low to me. Is that actually realistic?

So my questions:
What's your average web-to-app conversion rate (website click → App Store install)?

Does it differ a lot between page types, like calculators vs. landing pages vs. blog posts?

If the numbers really are that low, is SEO even worth it for apps, or are other channels (ASO, TikTok, paid ads) way more efficient?

Would love to hear real numbers from anyone who's tracked this.

Thanks!

Soo… I need help.

After ages fighting my way through app reviews, finally got my app published. And honestly, I feel like it should hypothetically have quite a big number of people who would find it useful. Maybe I went about it wrong, I only got data for like the first 48 hours. I tried posting about it all over reddit on places where it should be a good fit, and my numbers are… well…. Embarassing to say the least. It 4.39K impressions, 92 views, and a 0.3% conversion rate….

Only 9 first time downloads. Obviously 0 subscriptions.

I just started with snap ads today. Hopefully that works out better.

Anyway, I need your advice guys. The app is called instaclip if you want to view it and give me some advice. Thank you.

Building an App Google Play Production Update Stuck in Review for 12+ Hours Is This Normal?

My Google Play updates usually get reviewed in around 40 minutes, but my latest update has been stuck in review for 12+ hours.

Is this normal, or could there be a mistake with my submission? Can the review take days or even weeks?

r/AppBusiness • • 14h ago

My first subscriber cancelled the same day. Is that normal now?

Got the first ever subscription on a litter PDF and comic reader I made (Android, about $1.10 a month).

They're still using it though. Opened it again the next day, and they keep the month they paid for.

Is this just how people subscribe now, turn off auto renew right away so they don't forget? If you have monthly subs, how many of the cancelled ones end up coming back?

we guessed our app store video for 2 years. testing it raised revenue 40%

conversion went from 3.2% to 4.6% off a test we should have run ages ago.

meditation app, small team, about 8k downloads a month. we never tested creative, just guessed.

what we tested, one variable at a time:
- opening on the app vs opening on a feeling (someone lying awake at 3am)
- 15 seconds vs 30 seconds
- voiceover vs text only
- calm music vs no music

how we made 12 versions without 12 shoots: real app screen recordings for everything showing the product, and the "feeling" openers generated on dreamina, like one buck for all of them. it kept giving the person in bed two pillows that merged into one, so we cropped tight. scripts brainstormed in chatgpt, edited in a google doc.

winner: feeling first, 15 seconds, text only, no music. weirdly the silent one won.

conversion on the product page went from 3.2% to 4.6%, and since it brought in more poeple who actually stuck around, revenue is up about 40%.

if you are not testing your preview video, its probably the cheapest win you have

Social Impact App Idea: Direct Support for People Experiencing Homelessness

Hello,

I would like to propose an app idea with the potential to make a real difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness. I believe there is an opportunity to develop a simple, modern platform that makes it easier for people to help one another directly, and that could be an interesting project for your team to develop.

The idea is a platform that enables people to provide direct support to those experiencing homelessness.

Today, support often consists of services such as food distribution and shelters. These are important, but people experiencing homelessness may need much more than food: clothing, shoes, hygiene products, a phone, public transportation, temporary accommodation, or financial assistance to help them move toward securing a home of their own.

Such an app could offer:

Direct donations: The ability to contribute money via Swish, where permitted by applicable payment regulations.

Personalized needs: Recipients can describe what they need and the goals they want to achieve.

Safe verification: Private verification through social workers, charitable organizations, or trained volunteers, with alternative options for people who lack BankID or official identification.

Privacy and dignity: No one should have to expose sensitive documents or publicly share traumatic life stories to receive help.

Practical and material support: Donors could also offer clothing, hygiene products, transportation, and other essential items.

Long-term independence: Opportunities to receive support with finding housing, studying, working, and rebuilding financial stability.

Fraud prevention: Verified profiles, reporting features, and clear information about what has actually been verified.

The central idea is to shift the focus from immediate survival alone toward self-determination, dignity, and the opportunity to escape homelessness.

I believe an initial, relatively simple version could be piloted locally in Stockholm in partnership with a charitable organization, then further developed based on real-world needs.

I would therefore like to put forward this idea as a potential development project for your team. Would you be interested in exploring the concept, assessing its feasibility, and potentially developing a prototype or minimum viable product (MVP)?

I believe such a service could create tangible social value while offering a scalable model that could be adopted by other cities.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this proposal.

Kind regards,

Building an App I am building an iOS and MacOS app for hyper-focused developers.

Hello everyone,

So as the title says, I'm currently working on my app, it is called "Bento Buddy", I built it because while working on my freelance projects and my own projects, I sometimes loose track of time and I forget to eat and drink water, yeah that's actually a thing 😅

So as a developer, I built this app to address my problem statement, and I have been using It for a while now and it is working perfectly for me.

So this app actually forces me to eat food, like it locks my Mac and I have to actually click a photo of food via my iPhone to unlock my Mac to continue working, app basically has 3 tiers of reminders, one of them simply sends you to alert.

Im currently focusing on gym too and it's quite hard to focus on both of the things side by side.

If you guys are interested feel free to DM me, I'll be happy to share you the beta testfilght link.

I have already posted about this app in this sub-reddit and I am looking forward to connect with possible subscribers here :-)

I turned a popular AI video hook into an editable template for app promos

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been seeing this style of video everywhere lately. It’s a really strong hook, especially for promoting apps and SaaS products.

The problem is that AI-generated videos are hard to control. If you want to change the timing or replace something, you often have to generate the whole thing again.

So I tried a different approach.
I generated several backgrounds with AI, then made the button and display area fixed and editable.
Now you can:

Control exactly when the button triggers.
Replace the display with images or videos.
Insert clips from other templates.

Add your own app screen recordings.
This way, you can reuse the same hook for completely different products without regenerating everything.
Here’s how it turned out.

What do you think of this approach?
