Do not get me wrong, Rudeus was... WAS... A good for nothing, worthless, pedo scumbag, and should not be viewed as a decent person
BUT, when all the talk about Mushoku Tensei and all its hate boils down to "The MC is a pedo", disregarding the plot, the world, the story, the message AND MOST IMPORTANTLY the redemption of Rudeus to being a decent person, learning and feeling bad about his terrible ways and shit he used to do... All of that hate is stupid
I hate how every discussion about the anime from all the social platforms ive been in (Twitter, IG, YouTube, Reddit, etc.) only saw the past Rudeus being a pedo and thats their whole personality and opinion on the anime
To clarify in case people can't read and skimmed past, i am not defending Rudeus being a pedo, im defending the story itself and hating on tourists
I’m getting so done with the anime community, it’s hard to find a single anime related post now without people throwing the word pedophile around for any interest in characters even if they look fully adult.
Tourists need to stop trying to change what was already established loooong before the new-gen 'anime fans' arrived. If they don’t like it, they can go watch Disney-produced, safe-for-all media that was specifically made for them.
A lot of people try to make fandom policing and censorship a "left vs right" issue, but censorship of fiction is bad for everyone! The laws that target lolicon will also target queer stories, survivor stories, art and expression from creatives and victims alike. Censorship does not end at the fiction you like, the people in power find queer stories, survivor stories, and lolicon all equally disgusting. Being anti-censorship of fiction is a bipartisan issue! Cute picture for visibility <3
I don't mind if people like donghua like Lord of the Mysteries. Ok good for you. But stop comparing that Chinese 'anime' to Japanese anime like Mushoku Tensei, Re:Zero, or even something like Warhammer 40K franchise.
Remember the Spy × Family scene where Yor is covered in blood? When the Chinese version came out, they changed it so it looked like she was covered in something else entirely. A lot of donghua gets toned down hard because of Chinese regulations. The same donghua, LOTM, gets toned down because you know, again, it's Chinese. That's why some people like you act so against fanservice, then turn around and call anyone who likes it a creep. "Urgh, you like fanservice? You're disgusting!" followed by the same classic "Oh no someone please think of the children! Because children will see it oh no!"
Bro, who cares? It's 18+. I don't mind anime girls flashing some skin, butt cheeks, panty shots during fights, or bikini armor. It's fiction and it's not that deep. Same goes with a lot of Warhammer 40K content.
Anyway i had enough rant like Cyberpunk detective, LN Historian, I know you're not going to read this, but just shut your mouth already.
Edit: I never like donghua, i hate donghua. China censored just about everything even gun laws by banning guns. That is why you love China don't you LN?
I've seen this pattern a handful of times. Tourists who think they have some kind of right to attack others online because they were abused. Tourists who use their trauma as an excuse. Etc. Obviously any kind of abuse is terrible, but that has nothing to do with us.
Hopefully that title doesn't get me banned, I needed a good clickbait hook. Welcome, everyone.
To be clear, I'm not against Mushoku Tensei in the slightest, but I personally stopped watching around Season 2 or 3 because of the polygamy. It’s been a while since I regularly kept up with anime or indulged like I used to. I came up during the era of shows like School Days, Rumbling Hearts, and Code Geass, though these days I mainly stick to reading manga and light novels like Overlord and Youjo Senki. I actually come from a polygamous home, so seeing that dynamic play out on screen just hit a bit too close to home for me to keep watching.
My main rant, though, is about these tourists who can't keep MT out of their mouths. It’s so annoying seeing these people dare to criticize it when they have zero perspective. If they ever saw... I think it was called Monogatari? It's been a minute, pretty sure it’s Monogatari, I'll edit later if I'm wrong... these tourists would lose their minds. The passage of time and coming out before this outrage era is the only thing saving that whole community.
Anyways, back to Tensei, it really is a good show, or at least I think it is. I don't have any bad memories coming to mind, only good ones. One thing I remember really liking is the magic system, it felt structured and well thought out.
These tourists just need to relax. Twitter is full of these self-righteous types calling out anything in anime they find uncomfortable, while they go watch Love Island or Euphoria without batting an eye.
I honestly wish anime was still niche. I've always been known as the anime guy in my friend group, but now you've got people looking at you sideways or throwing around wild labels just because of what these tourists highlight. They don't understand the difference between depicting uncomfortable themes in fiction and actually endorsing them. When a medium goes mainstream, you lose all the nuance, and people start judging entire shows off 15-second outrage clips rather than looking at the storytelling as a whole.
Their moral is progressive slops, such as feminism, lgbt, child/animal/environment protection, and the way they being performative is to witch hunt straight men and straight men's hobbies, such as sanitizing animes and canceling beautiful women character in games.
Western men are self policing and witch hunting each other as a way of simping/white knight to all sorts of progressivism. East asian men are their eager follower, trying to copy this exact same white-men decency crap in their own societies.
After I post an art of Malfoid, some people told me that that name is offensive and told me to change it, well, a name is not a big deal, I just did it, then, they just ask for more and more, claiming that it is trans, etc. and at last it turns out they just want me to delete that art instead of just simply scroll away, I am so tired of them, I might be an ally but it seems I can never be one, it seems that they just ask for more and more and never stop
Posted a greentext to r/greentexts that was about Malfoid and had someone in my comments claiming I was a PDF-file for posting it. Their logic was since Malfoy was at one point a minor any posts about or art regarding Malfoid will also be about minors. I regrettably engaged instead of ignoring their comment and tried to point out their logic was silly at best and disingenuous at worst. I pointed out that the movies end with an epilogue. Where Malfoy is in his 30s seeing his own child off to Hogwarts for their first year. I also tried using Medusa from the Fate franchise to try and drive my point home. By pointing out that if someone goons to her gorgon form a giant half lady half snake monster with massive tits. They're not a PDF-file just because simply because there is also art depicting Medusa as a loli. Queue me then getting dog piled by stupid people claiming that no actually Medusa is still a minor. Claiming that her size and massive tits are just "exaggerated" as a "cope" so "PDF-Files feel less guilty for gooning". Ended up eventually nuking my own post because I got tired arguing with stupid people claiming that if you goon to Gorgon you might as well be gooning to a toddler. It just boggles my mind how these people can look at a giant snake lady with massive tits and think yup that's a child.
(Please note that the "you" is not addressed to the people of this sub, whenever I say "You" aren't doing something, I mean a theoretical person that this rant is criticizing, the theoretical person who unfortunately exists)
...is how they completely twist the critique of art around them to the point where critique of art becomes a ridiculous game of performative disgust instead of actually focusing on the problems of the work. Moral arguments have NO PLACE in art critique besides cases where art was created with direct harm to someone else or in cases where you're arguing with the message directly stated by the work. Even then though, it is unfair to claim that a work is bad because you morally disagree with its message - simply because the whole point of artistic expression is self-expression and the ability to convey themes, messages and stories that other people might personally disagree with. In this way, whining about an anime/book/game/music track/whatever being "immoral" is an extremely childish way to approach art. It is like whining about people using freedom of speech to voice opinions that disagree with you - when that is the literal point of freedom of speech.
I don't believe for one second that things like lolisho are intended to promote pedophilia, or incest romance promoted incest - the point though is that it WOULDN'T MATTER if they did. Because the whole purpose of art is to be a space to be able to explore ANY idea regardless of its moral implications in the real world. And even if YOU personally find the idea morally abhorrent, that does not mean that the exploration of the possibility of it NOT being morally abhorrent is a negative in art. You NEED the freedom to be able to think about such possibilities if you want to actually be able to develop a proper moral framework which art helps with.
Yes, everyone agrees that pedophilia is bad - but almost no one can fucking answer WHY it is bad, which is a moral failure as the process at which you come to a conclusion (even if that is the correct conclusion) is actually MORE important than the conclusion itself. Because even if you are right this time, the process WILL eventually fuck up if it isn't the right process and lead you to accepting horrendous moral conclusions as true because you aren't actually using your brain.
This cannot be accomplished if the only thing you're actually focused on is deriding even portraying an immoral action/event/whatever in art in a way you don't like. Whether it be a complaint about it conveying "the wrong message" or "not showing topic with enough tact" it always completely misses the point. Art doesn't have to convey "the right message" it doesn't have to "show a topic with tact" - the whole point of fiction is to be a space in which those rules don't apply. Because then we are able to explore ideas freely and be able to actually come to conclusions that MAKE SENSE and are based in something more than our immediate disgust reactions. And the preservation of that space is far more important than any possible "moral cost" allowing transgressive works might have (even though I don't actually believe that there is really any substantial cost to begin with, as there is no proof of transgressive art being a causal factor in criminal or immoral behaviour).
You cannot understand why evil people are wrong without being able to think freely about their assumptions and ask the question "What if they weren't wrong?". This doesn't mean you have to accept that they weren't wrong of course - as Lowell L Bennion put it:
the point is that to actually understand why a logic is wrong, you have to trace your path alongside that logic and see what conclusions it leads to.
Artistic expression makes it easier for us, by actually being able to present us with scenarios where this logic is applied without moral constraints and see it for ourselves. It doesn't really matter if a work is good at it, the very action of transgressive writing is in itself an invitation to thought.
But fundamentally, a problem where this REALLY fucking gets frustrating is wherever one wants to criticize a piece of art for its incompetence in actually being a piece of art, for messy writing, characters - and instead be forced to contend with people whose only problem is that the piece of art portrays a given controversial topic.
Redo of the Healer is a good example - I don't lik a Redo of the Healer like many people, but most of the people who don't like it - DON'T LIKE IT FOR THE WRONG FUCKING REASONS.
No, it is not a bad thing that Redo of the Healer's MC is a rapist, it is not a bad thing that it is wish-fulfilment slop. The actual bad thing about Redo of the Healer is that it FAILS at its own fucking goal, it's not fulfilling, it's not interesting, it doesn't hold your attention. The reason why Redo of the Healer sucks is not for some moral reason, it sucks because it's written like shit and a boring, extremely samey story that doesn't make any use of its premise.
But even then, the existence of it is NOT A BAD THING. The fact that it exists is a reflection of the fact that the mentioned free space where ideas can be explored freely is working - sometimes it will produce slop, sometimes it will produce absolute masterpieces which make you think about the way you consider things, but all of it is part of healthy functioning of art, complaining about it is inherently fucking missing the point.
Why do some people keep insisting on treating fictional characters like they’re real people? These are damn drawings, are you supposed to somehow ask for its consent or something if you want to goon to them? Another thing, some people will go head over heels with busty milfs and muscular tomboys, but the second someone finds a certain character cute & funny, suddenly it’s “wtf that’s literally a child” and “kill all pedos.” Thanks to these twats I’m actually starting to dislike seeing “safe horny” characters despite also finding them attractive. “Why are they simping for X when Y is literally there!” Idk maybe because people can have DIFFERENT FUCKING PREFERENCES on what they find attractive. There are real people out there who think big breasts on women look weird, disgusting even. It’s not like you have to like these characters, but no need be a jackass by hating other people for liking preferences that you don’t like.
Point is I’m tired of these usual suspects trying to act all sanctimonious when all they’re doing is just virtue signal with a bunch of pixels and drawings. Yeah bro, fighting with people online over liking certain fictional characters will surely contribute to actual issues that are happening in the real world.
Ive seen this in every gacha game I have played. "Not enough men", "where are the men". I know certain demographics exist that would want more, and that the OP isn't themselves expressing the opinion, but at times it is straight up doomposting. Is it that difficult to understand that the audience that prefers more female characters usually spends more on said female characters? "Oh but what about LDS?" That is the only game of its kind on the market and is also not the game i am talking about. Is it that hard to just accept that a game has a target audience and cater towards it?
Idk im sick of seeing people talking about it. If you like men that's fine. But dont try turning my waifu collector games into a sausage party. There are already games that are 50/50. Not everything in life is 50/50. If you want 50/50 go play those games.
Is this a modern audience thing? A woman thing? When a bunch of WoW players moved to other games? Or COVID normies joining the space? I dont feel like this was even a topic 10 years ago.
Something something, You go figure it out based of the images given from above. Not wanting to take the tiktok people seriously considering that they already been a braindead from the start. Just have no idea people like them are really exist and Genuinely believe that canon male malfoy is better than the fan made female one, speaking so much for people who said they "dislikes" J.K rowling's works. The canon version is lame as hell and people who hates him if the actor is ugly and call him an incel, especially for what he did to the female character (hermione) for calling her "mudblood" and certainly will think shipping him with potter be the last thing in his mind. Sometimes, tiktok people are different breed, they are so braindead as youtube short but refuse to admit it and think that they are so smart and superior that they will genuinely make fun of actual people and make a dark humour of it but also at the same time, offended at thing that they disagree with. Treating real person as fictional and fictional character as actual person, People like them are infested other platform as well. so far, youtube people apart from shorts and kids only have the normal and sane people left in the internet platform, tiktok, twitter, and reddit is such a lost cause. Back again to the main topic, the guy I talked with must have their mind been rotted if they think a normal and healthy relationship to escape their toxic family and environment as "gooner". Like how are they even go outside with mind like that l? And weak and defenseless? Canon malfoy is already known to be pathetic and weak compared to potter, her purpose is remain irrelevant after that bathroom scene. And have no good conclusion and whatsoever after the end of the movie, he just be on the "good" side during the last minutes when the person he used to bully all his years in the academy turned out to be alive after believing he was dead a minutes ago, draco malfoy was terribly written character and that person is still in denial that his most favourite character got overshadowed by the current trend with better personality, narrative, depth and conclusion
