Discovering Angolan Music
Hi everyone, I'm a British music student and I'm really interested in learning about foreign music. I came across an Angolan-British rapper called Avelino and now I'm curious about what Angolan music is like.
Specifically, are there any particular genres or movements that are or have been popular? For example, like how in the UK there was punk in the 70s, heavy metal in the 80s, and jungle in the 90s.
I've seen some posts online about metal and punk fans in Angola, are they known as their own subculture over there?
Does Angolan traditional music impact modern music? Is Angolan music more acoustic or electronic? Is foreign music popular in Angola, if so, which?
I'd love if you could recommend some Angolan artists or bands to listen to! I'm open to all genres.
