If I see another marriage or “can I marry this Afghan girl” or “this Afghan boy’s family won’t accept me” or “why do Afghans marry x ethnicity” post, I will delete it.
It’s 2026, marry whoever you want, Afghans are not evil people. The important thing is to find common ground and do all the relevant checks before (secret first wife? Do they want you to live with in laws? How are they with finances? Criminal record? Credit score? What are their expectations of your roles? Etc etc).
Now that I got that out of the way, can anybody who sees these posts please report them so they can get taken down? I’m sick of the circular discussions and the same advice- or butthurt complaints- being given. This is not an agony aunt or dating advice subreddit but too many of you are treating it like one or to air out your bigotry.
If you want to ask these questions, go to [r/MuslimMarriage](r/MuslimMarriage). Afghans are not different from other Muslims when it comes to expectations of foreign prospective grooms/brides (religiosity, finances, career, personality etc). If you continue to make the same posts here over and over again, you will be banned.
Thank you.

I know that most of the destruction happened in the countryside but I also read that Taloqan got heavily damaged during a soviet operation, Kandahar got destroyed, Kabul occasionally shelled. That's about it, I'm not sure about the many other cities so I wonder if you guys know

Hey guys. My husband and I are Afghan. I’m 36 (F). No kids. Been married for over 5 years. I suffered with vaginismus for most of our marriage. My mother-in-law keeps pestering us both about “when are we gonna have kids” and it’s so annoying. I’m my husband and I have both asked her to stop bringing this up to us. I used to get really triggered because I had vaginismus but even now that I am over it, I find it extremely annoying. Any advice on what to tell her? I can’t pop off on her even though she clearly doesn’t respect our boundaries. In her head, somehow constantly pestering us about this is her way of trying to help us. And if I say anything remotely close to what I want To, then I am deemed “beytarbia” unfortunately. Help! Any advice?? I told my mom if she brings it up one more time then she won’t be welcomed at my house and she stopped but I can’t tell my mother in law that because she’s not my mom lol

I would love to meet more people who have the same experience as me! My dad is from Kabul and is ethnically Tajik. I don’t know too much about his childhood in Afghanistan, he grew up mostly in Iran and speaks Farsi.
Hello everyone, I am hoping that someone can help identify a song in this instagram post? The voice, the views, everything just feels right except that I can not identify the song!

Usually most people in diaspora groups try to visit their home country once every few years, even if they were born in the west and do not have much connections with their country of origin.
However, I think it might be more difficult for Afghans in the west to do this considering the situation in Afghanistan.
So do Afghans born and raised in western countries visit Afghanistan?

It's time to stop making excuses for the idiots in this diaspora. Their toxic attitude is dragging down the entire normal diaspora's reputation. These people deserve deportation, Tommy Robinson is telling the truth on this one.

I found out about it when I was reading the wikipedia page for the list of famines. Apparently there was a famine cause by a drought in 1971-1973 in Afghanistan, but I couldn't find much info on it, not even a wiki page.
There are two new york times archive articles on it tho. This one mentions how half of Afghanistan livestock died during the famine. It also mentions how the US and USSR sent aid, and that tens of thousands have died. It also mentions the Afghan government didnt seem to care or do much about the famine.
This is this other article that mentions how there was no rain for two years and that the winter was very severe. It also mentions how it mostly affected north western regions like Ghor and Herat. It also explains how many farmers and children went to the cities to beg for food, but couldn't find any and starved to death.
Does anyone have more info on this event? Strange how little info there is on it.
Maybe some personal stories from relatives who lived through it?
I would like to hear more from you guys.

I know this post is going to piss both Pashtun and Tajik ethno-nationalists off, but it’s true. We have the same exact DNA, and many Pashtuns are genetically closer to some Tajiks than to other Pashtuns (and vice versa). We look the same. If you put 10 Tajiks and Pashtuns in a room, you won’t be able to tell who is who by looking at them.
I really hate seeing all the hate from both sides because we are the same people, we should be united.

For years I have had tons of Afghan food because Im an Afghan (duh). However as a kid I was fed Gulpi, Bamya, and Fosilya. I despise these foods with my heart as I dont like the texture and taste. Is it just me? Are there any foods that are also bad that some of you hate?

I was looking through google earth, and I found out about this interesting island called Qara-Tepa or Urta-Tagay in northern Takhar Provence, which is along the Panj river, bordering Tajikistan.
There is a very short Wikipedia page for this island, which mentions that Afghanistan fought a border conflict over the Island against the Russian empire in 1913, and then the Soviet Union in 1925), until both sides agreed that it belongs to Afghanistan.
It is considered to be a part of Darqad district, which according to wiki has a population of 25,000 and is mostly ethnic Uzbeks. Wiki also mentions that heroin is smuggled to Tajikistan from this area.
I noticed there isn't really a lot of info on this island online, so please do share any info you might have about it.

I urge you all to read about it and learn about it. There are many videos out now, but I don't want to link as it is all gore and NSFL.

Of course, we know Afghans can be ignorant and full of biases but some of those biases are rooted in fear or conflation with other diseases.
For instance, those with vitiligo are unfortunately ostracised because the depigmentation can resemble leprosy. However, after I went platinum blonde, I was compared to an albino. I explained what an albino was to my mother on a phone call and found out my family has the trait. Apparently my second cousin and neighbour has three sons with albinism back home.
The interesting thing is that I don’t remember seeing those cousins whenever I went back home, but my mother said it’s because we usually visited in summer so their mother was protective of their skin and never let them out as children. There are also no albinos in my community nor do I remember seeing any whenever I went back home, so I will assume albinism isn’t very common.
Of course, people with albinism have a lot of needs. I’m interested to know how the condition is viewed and handled back home.

The Taliban opened a long awaited road through the Wakhan Corridor to China but the Chinese government hasn’t said a word on when they will open their side.
This article discusses why that might be the case.
The Taliban see it as critical to building independence from Iran and Pakistan and any pressure they put on Afghanistan - but the lack of any positive response suggests these hopes are misplaced for the foreseeable future.
