Discussion P2 licence disqualification appeal

Hi everyone I'm writing this post just to get some opinions of anyone who's been or known someone in this position.

So to cut a long story as short as possible,I have a cousin who is on a P2 licence who's received a letter informing them they have been disqualified. They accumulated 6 demerit points with 2 separate offences in quick succession and therefore were not eligible for the driver safety agreement, Which is essentially a 1 point lifeline to continue driving. The penalty is a 6 month suspension.

So my cousin is going to appeal the decision at the magistrates court which from my understanding if successful means basically you go back to having all points without any consequences. They will get legal documents signed by employers they work for saying they risk losing employment should they lose their licence.

So I'll just say it my cousin is absolutely trying to Wiesel their way out of facing consequences for stupidity while driving. While 6 months suspension is harsh and the driver safety agreement may have sufficed as punishment,I don't think they should just get off without accountability which apparently my cousin has been told they have a decent chance of accomplishing. This person has no children or sick relatives either.

Just curious as to what experiences people have with P platers getting disqualifications overturned for reasons of needing to get to work. I'll add this person I'm talking about lives 25 minutes from the city and has alot of public transportation options near where they live.

Edit- both offences were for speeding 10kms over limit I believe

Question I noticed parkland trees now have slogans painted on them and signs nailed in. The ribbons were a sensible idea but have just been left there and are looking now like rubbish. Surely this is taking the piss?

I respected the crazy lady fully committed to waving her sign.

Discussion School recommendations

Hi All,

We moved to paradise area a month ago and trying to figure out the schooling option which we need in next coupke of years.

Our zoned school is Charles Campbell College (R-12) and Paradise primary school is next closer one with Athelstone and dernancourt and Thorndon Park Primary following it.

I am just trying to figure out if we need to look for private schooling option as well.

We are not from Australia, so do not know the education system.

We ideally want a good public school, if possible.

Also if you ahve a option for 2 schools, where one has R-6 and other has R-12, which one is better?

Thanks

Question Is it legal to operate a dessert business out of a house?

Creperie and co prospect burnt down several years ago in 2022, but there is a private house operating as them on Uber.

It's difficult to tell if it's the actual business, with food certs for that address, or an impersonator.

Adelaidians, do we care if someone has all the required certs for their food carts if it's operated out of a suburb other then where it's advertised to be, and sold out of a house?

Or is complaining/worrying about this getting on your high horse, and hitting someone while they are down and trying to make a living?

Assistance Can my baby see a paediatrician while waiting for Medicare enrolment? (Adelaide)

Hi everyone! 😊
We recently arrived in Adelaide with my daughter, who is an Australian citizen and has an Australian passport. I’ve emailed her Medicare enrolment form and supporting documents, and I’m currently waiting for it to be processed.
I’d like to book her a routine paediatric check-up, but I’m unsure whether clinics will see her before her Medicare enrolment is approved.
For parents who have been through the same situation:
Were you able to book a GP or paediatrician while waiting for your baby’s Medicare card?
Did you have to pay privately, and roughly how much did it cost?
Is there a child and family health service in Adelaide that can see babies while their Medicare enrolment is pending?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice. Thank you! ❤️

Question Animal care or stable hand work

I’m 30 and looking for part time work I’ll actually feel passionate about. I love animals but haven’t got any work experience in animal care.

Is there much work in Adelaide? What kind of work would I be able to find realistically? How hard are entry level positions to find? And would doing an animal care certification help me find something?

TIA!

Discussion Looking for likeminded entrepreneurs

Hey guys! I’m a 21 year old tech student who’s looking to find other likeminded individuals when it comes to tech/other startups.

The startup culture in Adelaide isn’t great, and it’s hard to find people who share the same interests as me. I’m looking for potential partners in a startup in the future. Or people to network with and build connections.

If you’re interested, just shoot me a DM and we can talk further!

News Treasurer not ready to 'put up white flag' on troubled hospital's $3.2b budget

In short:

The construction of a new hospital, originally budgeted at $3.2 billion, is facing predictions of a cost blowout.

SA government ministers say the budget allocated to the project is under pressure.

What's next?

Lendlease is expected to provide a final price by the end of the year.

So what's the likelihood another South Australian hospital will be featured on the list of the most expensive buildings ever built?

News Lawyer suggests 'excessive self-defence' in fatal stabbing

Thumbnail

In short:

The lawyer for a teenager accused of murdering her father has told a court his client's victim had told her to stab him on multiple occasions before the fatal stabbing.

The now-19-year-old stood trial this month after pleading not guilty to the stabbing murder of her father on Boxing Day four years ago.

What's next?

A verdict will be handed down at a later date.

Full article as it's short: A teenager has admitted to killing her father on Boxing Day four years ago but has denied it was an act of murder.

The now-19-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, today pleaded not guilty to murder in South Australia's Supreme Court, but guilty to manslaughter over the December 26, 2022, incident.

Prosecutor Karen Ingleton said the plea to the lesser charge was not accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

In a summary to the court, Ms Ingleton said it would be alleged at trial later this week that the teenage girl had been drinking in the hours before the stabbing at a gathering and was "significantly intoxicated".

She said it will be alleged that the girl's father carried her out of the event and took her home, along with "a witness" where she slept "for a period of time".

"When she woke, the youth was angry and swearing. The source of her anger, or the reason for her anger, was not entirely clear," Ms Ingleton said.

She said that the girl then allegedly "launched at her father across the lounge room" with a knife from the kitchen.

Ms Ingleton said it would be alleged the knife was taken off the teenager, and triple-0 was called, but that she sourced another knife from the sink.

"[The witness] observed the youth to pick up a knife from the sink and plunge it straight into [her father's] chest," she said.

The court heard police arrived a short time later and the 16-year-old was arrested.

The trial, by judge alone, is expected to start later this week.

Question First time on a bus with this configuration, is it super rare?

Thumbnail

Seems standard configuration until the back with the wheel arch seeming much higher but this also could be due the steps starting where the 3rd shows steps. Instead of a full length back seat, it is only half with this black box that goes floor to ceiling. The black box sounds like the engine or a big generator and the metal on the hatches attached to it are hot to the touch. The two rows prior to the rear face in on themselves.

The bus is number 1801.

News Bluey held at knifepoint among images in One Nation colouring book given away at show

Thumbnail

In short:

A One Nation colouring book handed out to children at the Mount Gambier show appears to depict characters being robbed and unflattering caricatures of various politicians.

The party has defended the colouring book, based on the Please Explain web series, as political satire.

What's next?

A local mother whose children were handed the books says the item should not be marketed to children

One nation is really playing the indoctrinating the youth card, which they complain everyone else does. I'm surprised this isn't illegal, as there should be laws preventing children from being exposed to this hateful garbage.

Assistance Orthopaedic surgeon or hip preservation specialists?

I've just had news yesterday I have an anterior labral tear in my hip and need arthroscopic surgery. I saw an Orthopaedic specialist at Stepney who I'm not certain about.

I need recommendations as I don't want to risk this surgery going wrong I'm only in my early 30s and already dealing with multiple complex mental and physical conditions. Really struggling with coming to terms as I did not expect this.

Unfortunately don't have hospital cover on DSP it's difficult to afford it but might have to bite the bullet - I don't think I can risk waiting over 3 years on the public waitlist, since this is a procedure that has higher success rate the less damage there is. I am really open to suggestions here and any red flags..
