• The Liverpool-based band Dead or Alive can trace its roots back to 1979, when vocalist Pete Burns formed a group with keyboardist Martin Healy. The band originally called themselves "Rainbows Over Nagasaki", and then "Nightmares in Wax", before settling on their best-known name in 1980; and after several indie singles, they finally released their first album, Sophisticated Boom Boom, in 1984, which scored them their first UK hit, a cover of KC & the Sunshine Band's "That's the Way (I Like It)" which peaked at #22. One year later, however, their mainstream popularity would peak in a huge way with the release of their second album, Youthquake, which sold over half a million copies, mainly due to the success of its first single. "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" would become a major hit for the group, reaching #1 on the US Dance chart and #11 on the Hot 100 (becoming their biggest hit in America), and topping the charts in Canada, Switzerland, Ireland, and the band's native UK, where it was the #1 song for two weeks in March 1985. And for a long time, the band tried to trace this game's private number, wanting the voters to open up their loving arms and vote their song the last one standing...but now, all I know is that to the voters, the song no longer looks like it's lots of fun, so open up the eliminated list, watch out, here it comes - Pete Burns and his band have spun right round, baby, right round into the dustbin of this game!
