It was iconic watching Sizemore getting chased by his latest cannibalistic villain and threatened by his “moist” dialogue.

Sizemore is such an awful writer. “The worst thing is to die without purpose, that’s why I always consume the flesh of my victims... moist.” How does that make any sense? I get saying that he eats his victims so they have a purpose in death, but what does the moistness of their flesh have anything to do with it?

I love how William/MIB has his own house in Westworld. Like of course he does as the majority stakeholder, but like imagine having a house inside of Disneyland.
58
u/liirko Apr 24 '18
I found this cool as well. It looked like there was a small group of cabins for bigshot long-time players. Kind of like having a cabin in Disneyland, yeah. (Disney World in Florida did actually flirt with that idea in the 70s, but when they realized that if people actually lived on property they'd get to have voting rights on things Reedy Creek does, and thus the Disney Vacation Club was born, haha. Well, a few people may live in the town of Bay Lake but they would be the William equivalent of WDW.)
64
u/withoutapaddle Apr 23 '18
More like having a house in an MMO, which is a real thing in some.
40
u/acamas Apr 23 '18
What? How do you figure?
How is a digital house in a video game more like this instance, as opposed to having a real-world home inside of a physical theme park?
This is way more like having a house inside of Disneyland.
71
u/withoutapaddle Apr 24 '18
Westworld is more like an MMO than a theme park in pretty much every single way except software vs hardware. Quests, hub areas, dangerous areas the further you go from population centers, not to mention combat, gear, "NPC" companions aka hosts...
36
u/acamas Apr 24 '18
Westworld is more like an MMO than a theme park in pretty much every single way except software vs hardware.
But “software versus hardware” is the most important distinction here, by far. It’s practically the crux of the premise of WestWorld.
The fact that WestWorld exists in the real world is what matters here. Westworld is “real", as opposed to some online game, and that difference is EVERYTHING. Because it is “real” is the reason paid $40,000 per day to go there. You can’t just overlook that fact because it has some similarities to an MMO. WW being physically real is the entire point, and you simply can’t compare that to some MMO.
Quests, hub areas, dangerous areas the further you go from population centers, not to mention combat, gear, "NPC" companions aka hosts.
Yes, these are similarities. Nowhere near does it transcend the difference between a physical house and a digital one though.
Westworld is set in the real world, and therefore it’s more akin to Disneyland than Azeroth. And yes, Westworld is often referred to as a theme park, which is an apt description.

Oh, I had thought it was all planned out by Ford. Like he knew William would survive, and he’d go looking for supplies. So Ford left him his hat and his gun as a sort of, the game has begun gesture.
5
u/VernonDavos Apr 26 '18
Hmm. Interesting. Hadn't thought about it like that. IDK he certainly seemed pretty familiar with the cabin from my perspective.

Delos is copying humans. Bernard saw Charlottes screen and sad something to the tune of “You’re recording guests experiences and DNA?”
61
u/as9934 Apr 23 '18
Perhaps since everyone died they are planning to make host copies of them to send back, so that the outside world doesn't know about the massacre.

I actually don’t think that was a security feature, I think that was so that the drones would recognize you as having come in on your own and not being a host.

u/Drjosh84 Apr 24 '18
Or possibly ONLY hosts can access the secret lab that no one (presumably) knew about at HQ. Which would make sense given her lack of compassion for Bernard’s visible unease.

u/Phasma84 Apr 23 '18
It’s either that or they’re blackmailing the rich and powerful into doing their bidding or funding the park to make up operating costs.
Hard to say at this point. But I doubt anyone would want their sex tapes and DNA proof it’s them leaked to the world.
17
u/anobvioussolution Apr 23 '18
Eh but Lee Sizemore suggested blackmail in Season 1 and Charlotte (I think, or Theresa) laughed at him and said "you're not thinking big enough," or something to that effect.
3
u/OscarMiguelRamirez Apr 28 '18
If you have the DNA and know how someone behaves, speaks, and interacts with others, you can probably replace them with a host pretty easily.
14
u/RabidFlamingo Apr 25 '18
"So how could Dolores and her small band of Hosts manage to take over the outside world"
"OK so what if Delos' whole operation here was a way to copy key humans and replace them with Hosts - in fact, imply they could do it to anyone who ever visited Westworld - which would mean they've been doing it for almost 30 years"
Fuck fuck FUCK
7
u/KingBababooey Apr 23 '18
I think he figured out they were gathering DNA not by the screen but by the drones swabbing the host's junk.

So is S2 gonna be a giant flashback between the night of the shooting and when Delos arrives ...
387
u/cptmrgn24 Apr 23 '18
Tough to imagine the first season was spread out over decades and they would take season 2 over a couple weeks... But this is truly the show where you can say anything is possible who the fuck knows
22
u/maneo Apr 23 '18
Pretty sure we will still be dealing with a 30 year spread. Clips in the season 2 trailers (are these considered spoilers here?) seem to show some young William scenes. Seems like they are going to show his rise to power in Delos
8
Apr 23 '18
Maybe a similar massacre happened in the past then and they already have hosts in power out in the real world. Idk.
8
Apr 23 '18
Bernard tells Delores about the dream and being left in the sand. This might be real which would imply that this after the revolution. So right now we have Bernard after the mass shooting. Bernard two weeks after the shooting where is clothes would stink and he would Bernard a shaggy bread but does not. Bernard snooping around with Hale. My guess is that Bernard helps Hale as he becomes aware of Delos true intention. Hale discovers Bernard is a host and Bernard kills her. Bernard is a secret agent for the revolution left behind by Delores.
25
u/alien_from_Europa Apr 23 '18
Or both events could be happening at the same time.
30
u/thecentury Apr 23 '18
There only reason we think two weeks is because Karl Strand said two weeks... But if Strand is feeding Bernard false information, it could be anytime.

Well, we saw young William in the trailer for the weeks ahead, and there's also some sort of "Dolores outside of Westworld" stuff going on, so either she gets into another park, or she gets outside somehow, and those scenes could easily happen while Delos is in Westworld investigating, or they could happen afterward, and the scenes with Delos and Bernard could meet up with that timeline eventually.
93
u/buchk Apr 23 '18
It's gonna be one of the 3 timelines I think. William and Delos buying Westworld, Dolores killing Ford to Delos arriving, and Delos arriving onward.
7
u/Miran_C Apr 23 '18
This was my personal revelation. I think that when Bernard says he killed them all, that’s the cliffhanger ending of the entire season.
3
u/scififanantic420 Apr 23 '18
i dont think so. i think what everyone is calling a two week gap. i think its two entirely dif times. the robots have murdered all the "guest" which the bullets of the world now seem to hurt all of a sudden many times. hale is real and that is current time the part where you think your flash foward your flashing back to the last time the robots done this. reason peter abarnathy played the teacher that turned cannibel during a horror narrative called the diner party. i would call the robots that start to kill the guest horror and they were at a dinner party for celebrating the new narrative. also when maive work bernard up he told her this isnt the first time i have awoke. he doesnt have the scar on his head {where he shot himself} when hes with the ppl on the beach but he does when hes with hale. and the ecruity guy that was taken by the indians is a robot. how he escaped are you ready for this he didnt. when you saw him get taken was in the current timeline when your seeing him with bernard is a previous time when he didnt get taken by the indians. my theory.
3

So is S2 gonna be a giant flashback between the night of the shooting and when Delos arrives ...
I have to admit I am sort-of annoyed that this has turned drama into another "who did it happen mystery box". I'd prefer to just not have seen any of the future.
-10
u/showdefclopclop Apr 23 '18
Agreed. Season one was building up to this crazy point and season 2 just skipped over it. Like when we find William he's just in the middle of the park with a bunch of other dead people. Did it occur to the producers that we the audience would have really liked to see that? Not just because we want it but because it seems kind of cheap that he's just on the ground and were supposed to just accept it. It's not earned and that's very disappointing
1
Apr 23 '18
I would imagine since we saw William in the "Rest of season 2" teaser at the end of the episode I would assume it spans a couple of decades.

I think Delos is using DNA of guests, creating copies of humans to infiltrate corporations and governments.
So we’re in a 2 week timeline before and after Bernard ?
371
u/MileHighRox Apr 23 '18
That is the plot of the second movie Futureworld.
67
Apr 23 '18
I feel the DNA sampling of guests makes it quite likely they will go this route with this.
16
u/_BindersFullOfWomen_ Apr 24 '18
I kind of hope this isn't what they're doing, only because it'd be a shame for the "big twist" to be that obvious.
30
Apr 24 '18 edited Apr 24 '18
That's why I wish more twists were just written like plot points if that makes sense. Just move on to dopplegangers without trying to play it off like a shamalamayian thing to freak us out since we know it's inevitable because all cooperations and politics are like this already. It'd be more weird if Delos wasn't corrupt and abusing technology.
16
u/OscarMiguelRamirez Apr 28 '18
Who said it's a twist? It's probably something they would address in the first few episodes, and any twist would be something else. This would just be the foundation of a story arc.

mmm i like this. so the plan is to kill the guests when they checkout? or have them deal with the decisions their clones did once they find out their lives have changed? i'm guessing the first.
648
u/pokupokupoku Apr 23 '18
nah I'd just assume everyone who visits westworld is rich and/or powerful, seems like a really expensive vacation to take, so they're probably getting the DNA of guests to make cloned hosts and use them to influence society. if Delos can make a carbon copy version of the president and program him to do things in their best interest for example, it could be a very powerful tool. or even something smaller like cloned copy of a person in a rival company to get access to secrets
21
u/TheHateHouse Apr 23 '18
Well they establish that anyone who goes in there is Rich As fuck. it was like what $50,000 a day to visit?
Though the idea of them sitting out clones to infiltrate it's a possibility, but the risk seems exceedingly High. The moment one of those are found out the entire game is up. In the short term it's viable in the long term it's doomed to failure
15
u/LoneDarkHuntress Apr 23 '18
Logan said $40,000 a day and that was back when it first open. Who knows how much it was after Delos took over.
61
u/desgraciadamente Apr 23 '18
would
I think copies were made to fool the Hosts. At some point -- maybe the original Wyatt massacre -- it was realized there was no safe way to keep allowing humans into the park. In order for Ford's research to continue, human guests were replaced with Hosts. Endgame: Hosts think they've gotten vengeance, find out they've been duped by humans again.
25
u/nerdyhandle Apr 23 '18
This may be the reason why so many characters lacked concern for a bunch of dead humans. What if they weren't humans and their all hosts.

killing the guests when they check out and replacing them with clones is absolute wack and I couldn’t be more exited for it
25
u/reenact12321 Apr 23 '18
I would think that big of a "kill and replace" operation would be a bit overkill, it's far less important you replace everyone than to have the ability to replace anyone you want when the time is most opportune.
28
u/i_am_voldemort Apr 23 '18
I feel like kill and replace wouldn't work
Some host pretender would get in a car accident or hit by a car or shot or plane crash or fire and they'd be revealed as a host and everyone would be like wtf
38
u/Smartt88 Apr 23 '18
In one of the recent Delos online “compatibility” questionnaires, one of the questions was something along the lines of “If you were to be cloned physically and have a backup of your cognitive being, then die in an accident and be uploaded into your clone, is it you?”
Perhaps the DNA collection is part of a security/insurance thing? And the reason we don’t hear about other incidents is because if something does happen in the Park, Delos can just deploy the backup.
12
Apr 23 '18
I get that, but why would it be a secret to everyone but this small group inside delos? she has this secret outpost and the dna extraction is being done under the radar. So something is off. Can't wait to find out what it is.

I think clones are definitely possible, but I’m not sure how they plan on transferring full memories from humans. I’m sure some uber rich people would probably love to transfer their consciousness into a perfect robot body to achieve immortality. I’m fairly certain Ford figured it out, if not Arnold as well before his death.
For a moment I thought Charlotte was talking to a clone because the screenname was XOmegaCH (Charlotte Hale)

Also why the Delos guy told the military to go away. First, I bet the Japanese or Chinese host the Delos facilities on an island. Under an agreement, if the island goes to hell they would invade and purge the hosts themselves. Delos told them to leave saying they had it under control.
36
u/mdp300 Apr 23 '18

14
u/Sconrad122 Apr 23 '18 edited Apr 23 '18
Notably, I don't think we know how long it has been, unless I missed something. We have 11 days(?) since the warrior host was shot by Dolores, but no link between that event and the saloon party gone wrong. What we do have to link back to the saloon party are the bodies and their state of decomposition, but I am no forensic scientist. Not saying it could be years, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was longer than we are led to believe in this episode
Edit: Autocorrect can't spell Dolores
28
u/BloodyMalleus Apr 23 '18
The douche in charge said it was two weeks. I'd be pretty pissed if years went by and Bernard showed up in ragged clothing just to trick us.
What might be more likely is that there is a 3rd time line with Delores acting years later than the party. However, I find this unlikely at this time as all the scenes of Delores closely connect.
5
u/BloodyMalleus Apr 23 '18
Actually, I take it back. Help wouldn't arrive until they got Abernathy out. Maybe that's how Bernard got. To the beach. It could have been significantly longer since the party began. Only two weeks since they lost communications. It couldn't have been too much longer since Ford wasn't too decayed.
63
u/blechhhh Apr 23 '18
Skarsgard said at the beginning it was an eleven day gap, so somewhere around there.

Yes! new theory: it’s not Future World we’re seeing in the trailers, but it’s the real world. Who knows, maybe (hopefully?!!) we’ll get a Man in Black/William host.

I read that as Bernard assuming that they collect DNA and host interactions with that guest for blackmail.
While you can “clone” from DNA, that wouldn’t include a persons memories. The clone wouldn’t be able to infiltrate the real world.

Not from the hosts they have sex with, from anything they touch. They showed two characters having their DNA scanned by touching a handle. Hell, I think the hosts might even be able to scan DNA of those merely nearby. So a complete and total record of behavior from all witnesses, including animals, all beamed back realtime over the host version of ADSB ("Mesh Network").
Also, this Mesh Network? Sounds a whole lot like the New Internet that Thomas Middleditch is building over on Silicon Valley. Along with his brilliant compression allowing incredibly small storage of vast quantities of data as well as instantaneous access to that compressed data in order to do incredible computing...
New fantheory - Silicon Valley is a precursor show to Westworld and SOMEHOW Richard Hendricks is Arnold. Also, that's why nobody recognizes Bernard as being a Life Model Decoy of Arnold, because he's NOT - anytime he sees a picture of Arnold that he's ALLOWED TO SEE Arnold in, he only sees himself so that he understands, and if he's not allowed to see Arnold in that picture then whatever, we the camera don't see it either. And that's why nobody recognizes him - the real Arnold is Richard Arnold Hendricks.

I'm thinking the same.
Remember everyone, MiB was one of the first besides Arnold to really desire the hosts be real and have the ability to defend themselves and fight back. He may have been a son of a bitch to Dolores over the years, but I believe that stems far deeper to his true desire for Dolores to be real, for her world to be real, because it was when he felt most alive, and his frustrations with her never really getting there manifested in his cruelty towards her in later years, because it reflects that his most alive moment in his entire life was a lie.
I think there will be a moment where he saves Dolores.

Bernard's mind this episode was just continuously being blown.

There’s way too many people debating if it’s two timelines in the live thread. It’s not a twist this time guys, they made it pretty explicit with the Bernard flashing back and forth.

Also the tablet diagnostic thing clearly said he was experiencing “time slippage”

That makes me wonder how long a timeframe Bernard is experiencing.

I know, they straight up fucking told us, and people are acting like it's some big revelation. The mystery isn't Bernard with Hale or with the Delos people. It's whatever the fuck happened in the interim

Two Bernards.
When Ford killed the "original" he had a copy created. But the "original" was resurrected by Maeve. Now there are two.
It's basically the plot to Swarzineger's "6th day". Not saying I believe it, just saying it's possible.

But we also saw the massacre scene and Ford had maggots in his eyes. So it's clear that some time has passed for that Bernard, while the Bernard with Charlotte is right after the massacre. I'm also suspicious that the 2 timelines aren't quite as simple as they seem but I don't think they can be concurrent.

As in the Bernard with Charlotte is not the same Bernard that woke up on the beach 11 days later and is now with Stubbs?

Three timelines it looks likes this season. That leaves the possibility of 1.5X the Teddy death count as last season.

Three? I'm only counting two. The immediate aftermath of the massacre which consists of everything other than Bernard being found face down on the beach, and two weeks after the massacre which consists only of Bernard and the Delos execution squad.

Four if you count Dolores and Arnold at the very beginning.

So Westworld is in Asia? They were telling those soldiers that their government basically gave Delos control of the land the park is on.

I think that was Chinese, so the island's probably in the South China Sea and Delos may be partially Chinese itself.

Ghost got more screentime in this episode of Westworld than all of GoT season 7.

“Everything is code here. You know that more than anyone, William.”
Amidst a landscape of robots brutally murdering humans, Robo-Ford Jr. and its distorted voice was the creepiest part of the episode.

Charlotte's all "is something wrong, Bernard?" like there isn't an insane robot revolution going on with dead people everywhere.
