Featured Character of the Week: Iron Fist
Character of the Week is basically a discussion in which we talk about a specific character. In this post, we will be talking about the characters history, discuss their feats and ask questions about said character. This is an idea I had a while back, and after having talked to /u/Roflmoo about it and him giving me the "GO" on actually making it. For the first week, I've decided on making the discussion about Danny Rand, The Immortal Iron Fist.
Now, as to how we decide the next character. That is all up to you guys. You guys get to decide. I don't know how we're going to decide that exactly, but if I had to guess it's going to be the most up voted comment nominating a character or the one that the person making that specific character of the week discussion likes. The reason I say "that person" is because I'm not going to be knowledgeable on every character, so from there we will decide who wants to make the next Character of the Week post.
Name: Daniel Thomas Rand-K'ai
Team Affiliations: Heroes for Hire, Immortal Weapons, New Avengers, Defenders, Thunderbolts
Allies: Luke Cage, Misty Knight, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Punisher
Enemies: Steel Serpent, Hydra
After beating Shou-Lao The Undying, Danny was given the powers of the Iron Fist. This power allows him to focus his chi and amplify his power to extreme levels.
Powers:
Chi Augmentation: After defeating Shou Lao, a dragon whose heart possessed the Iron Fist, Danny's natural abilities had become even more powerful than before, turning him into a peak human, without using his chi. He also has demonstrated other abilities such as being able to heal others and himself, being able to meld peoples minds so that he can see others memories and free them of mind control, increased durability, and other powers. A couple years back, Danny was given an even bigger upgrade when he absorbed the energy of a previous Iron Fist, and was said to have his sense of self increased 10,000 fold and his powers posses infinite depth. He also is able to manipulate his chi into concussive blasts.
Martial Arts Skill: Danny is a master of K'un Lun's martial arts and he has mastered many of Earth's martial arts.
Top 5 Feats:
Taking down a kinetic energy eating monster by taking out it's Achilles Tendon.
Eliminating an opponent before the bullet can leave the gun's barrel.
With one punch, takes out a Helicarrier.
Other Feats
Strength Feats:
Him and Davos fighting causes a floor to explode.
Speed Feats:
dodging gunfire by fractions of an inch.
catching a bullet from behind him.
Durability Feats:
Healing himself subconsciously.
Skill Feats:
Fighting against Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Colossus.
After his upgrade, Danny's have senses have increased significantly.
Note: There should be a weakness category, however in Iron Fist's case, he doesn't have any distinct weak point. Just for future notice.

Pretty cool idea. But what was up with that train? It had some Atomic Bombs on it, or was that only exaggerated?
Also, why does he call himself immortal? Is he truly immortal or is this just a title given to him without meaning. Like INVINCIBLE hulk or stuff like that?
Also, I am curios how he was able to defeat Shun Lao Shou-Lao without powers? He sounds like a magic being or something with awesome powers, and Danny was just a normal guy? Or did he have powers back then?
Sorry for all these questions, but I am very curious. I always thought Iron Fist looked lame, so I thought he was just some dude. Interesting to see all these scans now.

The train had enough explosives to blow up all of K'un-Lun, I'd think it would have to be pretty massive in order to do that.

Danny isn't the first Iron Fist. There have been 66 Iron Fists before him, men and women. When he dies, another Iron Fist will be named. Thus, "The Immortal Iron Fist".

Danny had to train for YEARS under the tutelage of Lei Kung the Thunderer, the father of The Steel Serpent (He's immortal as well). After proving himself to be the best of his students, Danny got the chance to face the Dragon and defeats him.
I love answering questions, keep em coming!

the iron fist is a title , so in that sense it really is immortal , you can kill Daniel rand but you can't kill the iron fist.

This is all great and Iron Fist was actually someone I was really curious about, but could I suggest something? Could you add a small "personality" section? In my opinion, a character's personality is an ENORMOUS factor in their fighting skill and it shouldn't be ignored. Would Dr. Doom or Batman be what they are if not for their personalities?

Can anyone talk about the period when he was filling in for Daredevil? I believe this was mostly during the Civil War arc, and I'm curious if folks more familiar with both him and Daredevil can say how well he handled that role.
I don't even actually know how powerful Iron Fist is supposed to be relative to Daredevil (I should probably post a WWW right? Where can I do something like that I wonder...), so other than both being proficient acrobats and martial artists, I wonder if anyone can say if he had to restrain himself significantly or step up his game in order to go relatively unnoticed.
On a similar note, anyone have any comments on if anyone else ever filled in as the Iron Fist other than Danny Rand (in the actual comics, not in the lore), and how well they fared?

He was hired to act and dress as Daredevil to make it seem like Matt Murdock and Daredevil were two different people (It had been exposed that Matt was Daredevil). When Matt actually confronted the imposter, he realized it was Iron Fist and asked him to be Daredevil for longer so he could figure out who killed Foggy Nelson (who wasn't actually dead).

I'd say Danny's Iron Fist would give him the big advantage over Matt.

No one has filled in as Danny, unless I'm forgetting something.

This is a really cool idea. I also suggest you crosspost this to r/respectthreads as it would fit really well there.

u/Roflmoo Mar 10 '14
That was part of the original plan, to help cross-promote r/respectthreads and drive up their traffic, but we mentioned it once at the beginning and forgot about it. I reminded Wallzo a bit ago, but he's AFK at the moment, and I want him to be the one to post it, since it's his work. His very awesome work.

When did he get this sudden surge of strength and speed? I only know him from Maximum Carnage and he wasn't anywhere close to that physically powerful.
And on that note, I vote the next character be Carnage.

u/Wallzo Mar 11 '14
He got an upgrade when he absorbed the energy of a previous Iron Fist.
Also, he read a book that had multiple different techinques to enhance his skills.
EDIT - That was in The Immortal Iron Fist

Damn. I always liked Iron Fist I just never really knew how bad ass he was.
P.S.
This is a great idea, I'm glad Roflmoo gave the green light for this. I can't wait to see interesting discussion on characters every week now.

It's good to know that Iron Fist can catch a bullet and still have time to fap.

Why is knocking out son of hulk not on the feats list, otherwise 10/10 will want more more of these posts

Firstly, thank you finally snowballing this idea! Do we have to PM you for character of the week ideas?
Anyway, on to Iron Fist.
I know next to nothing to the guy, but I play the short-lived (they're not releasing any more supplementary material ;_;) but thoroughly awesome and diceless Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game
When it was cast out of development, the fans took it upon themselves to create a new supplements of their own, and one of them was Spidey's Guide to New York. In here, I saw that he has something called Iron Will.
Now let me get this straight, Iron Will is a damn useful skill because it's what allows the bearer to do all of those feats you mentioned Wallzo.
But even by itself, it's a damn powerful skill because the fans interpreted it as USE KI/CHI TO DO EVERYTHING. It ranges from
-
plausible (You need to acrobat yourself 50 stories up? ADD YOUR KI TO YOUR MEAN JUMPING SKILLS)
-
and the stretching it a little bit (You need to amp up you guitar skills to jam with Dave Grohl? ADD YOUR KI TO YOUR MEAGER GUITAR SKILLS TO BLOW HIS MIND)
-
and the completely irrelevant to Kung Fu (My hacking skills aren't enough to defeat the computer virus! I see no other choice than to USE MY KI TO BOLSTER IT!)
(So does this ^ shit make sense to you Wallzo? Can Iron Fist theoretically do it?)
Thing is, I was uuuhh sort of a minmaxer when I created my first character in our new campaign (We're on our fourth or fifth I think, and we can have multiple characters as per House Rules) so when I saw Iron Will, I immediately saw it as a means to augment the gun skills of my Deadpool Deathstroke Grifter-esque character. So I use Kung Fu to shoot bullets. Maybe if I researched up on Iron Fist first and his ridiculous feats, things would've turned out differently.

u/Roflmoo Mar 10 '14
So I use Kung Fu to shoot bullets.
You would like the movie Equilibrium.

Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game:
The Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game (abbreviated MURPG) is a role-playing game (RPG) set in the Marvel Universe. It was published in 2003 by Marvel Comics. The game used a diceless system different from either of the previous RPGs set in the Marvel Universe.
The game included versions of several popular Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, [Hulk](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulk_(comics)), Captain America, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. It also allowed for designing one's own heroes and villains.

Always thought he just got magic from someone, not that he killed a Friggin Dragon! Good post.

I think another important feat for him is that he took down Thor's clone, Ragnarok. He did have some help from Spider-Man but it was impressive none the less.

Great job on the 1st post u/Wallzo! I liked it and really learned a ton about this character.

u/fringly Mar 11 '14
This is an awesome idea and Iron Fist is a great first choice and a guy I know little about. What's his "biggest" achievement in the superhero world? Has he done any world saving or anything big scale?
In the future I'd love to see a week on Moon Knight, another guy I know little about but what I do know is really interesting.

Iron Fist is bad ass and all but in the Devil in Cell Block D part 5 he ends up fighting DD for reasons I won't say I anyone wants to read it and DD states how he is one of the best martial artists he ever fought but then instantly out smarts him and bounces a billy club off a pipe and it smashes Danny in the back of the head. I'm not sure when this is in relation to his upgrades but he was trying to emulate Daredevils moves and this may suggest why he was hit by such a cheap shot. Just thought I'd add some depth :)
2
Mar 11 '14
Well it's a Daredevil comic, so Daredevil wins.

u/LucasMcgee Mar 14 '14
The fight actually ends when iron fist starts fighting like himself as they realise each other's identities but it does seem a bit like "oh shit it's Iron Fist NOPE don't wanna fight him"

u/pinkie_da_partynator Mar 11 '14
Are there any more scans for kinetic absorption feats for The Iron Fist? And have his abilities allowed him some sort of mental resistance against mental intrusion? Thanks!
1
Mar 11 '14
I would assume he has a high resistance to psychics considering his high level of mental control and self discipline. I don't know of any feats relating to this, hopefully someone else can pipe in.

u/GawlKholin Mar 10 '14
Just a suggestion, putting where they're from in the title might be useful. I like this, though.

Is be willing to do a write-up on Sinestro if there is interest. I'm not sure if he's the right level of popularity though.

Hello Green Lantern guy from the Superman vs GL thread. Aside from the associated emotions and color, what are the basic differentiation between GLs and Sinestro Corps peeps anyway?

The next one you should use is megaman.
I mean when was the last time you saw someone use megaman on this sub?
And even if there is one it always only has just like 3 comments.
So if you need a character to make a post about, for the love of god, use megaman!

I think this is a good idea. But to keep things interesting, lets used underused characters, like this one.
