September 2012 Voting Thread

Contest theme: Industry Flags

Very simply, all you have to do is upvote the flags you like (downvotes don't count and are considered bad form). I'm only going to be counting upvotes, and will be doing so whenever I wake up on the 20th (in theory, at least - I think this has happened maybe once).

Remember, you're voting on a good flag, not just a good image.

Names of submitters will be revealed when I tally the votes.

PLEASE remember to vote this post up so that others can see it. Thank you!

Keep the contest alive!

Also, this contest has not benefited from my full attention - please let me know if I've fucked something up.

Agro Industry Flag

http://i.imgur.com/q2LCK.png

This flag represents the nation's agricultural industry, one of the largest in the world. The yellow represents the grains that make up most of the industry, corn and wheat and the green represents the green pastures and wide open plains that allow such extensive farming.

Flag of Chinese industry

http://i.imgur.com/I462O.png

A gear, a universal symbol of industry, is combined with the classic Communist imagery of the star and the red field. The five points of the star also represent the Five Year Plans which guide the development of China's industries.

Gear

For industry in general, the first thing that came to my mind was gears and I wanted to make it as simple as I could.

What is actually represented here can include many things: energy in the form of battery cells, the repetitiveness of industrial machinery, or the connections provided by the body of a screw.

Flag of Tuxedo Rental Industry

http://i.imgur.com/H9RhW.png

I thought that the tuxedo rental industry required a classy flag. This flag is based on a classic black and white tuxedo with a bow tie in the badge.

Flag of the Computer Industry

http://i.imgur.com/SVcZV.png

Flag for the computer industry has a beige field and the power symbol in the badge. Because computers are an important tool that has allowed mankind to reach for the stars and other areas of science I added stars as extra flair.

Delicate Edge

http://i.imgur.com/x1Rk6.png

The burden of industry lies in the preservation of the natural land and resources from which it originated. This flag draws attention to the delicate balance of the two, as industrial infrastructure inches ever closer to overcoming the environment.

Flag of the Craft Beer Industry

http://imgur.com/ur580.png

As an experienced homebrewer and craft beer enthusiast, picking the craft beer industry as the subject of my flag was a no-brainer. This flag represents the craft beer industry by illustrating the diversity of beer. The gold represents lighter ales and lagers. The red-brown in the middle symbolizes amber and brown ales and lagers. The black represents dark ales and lagers.

industry flag without details

http://imgur.com/r75om.png

symbolism: the green field represents the earth's resources. the blue represents water. By way of that symbolism, it represents life, human force, work; the power that comes from the earth and is utilized for industry. The white represents plastic, porcelain, early iPods, shining white cities, white paper; our culture, in general.

The four ""rivers"" represent the four sectors of industry: primary, or the extraction of resources, secondary, the processing of resources, tertiary, the provision of services, and Quaternary, research and development. The wheel in the center represents a water wheel, or any machine, taking the earths resources and human power and ingenuity and building a society continuously for as long as possible. There's ten teeth because I like the number ten."

REPLY TO THIS POST if you have other flags to share and don't feel they would be appropriate for the contest (e.g. you have more than 3 flags submitted already, you were too late, you just want feedback and don't really care about winning).

Pennsylvania Steel Industry Flag

http://imgur.com/u2oF1.png

This flag incorporates elements from the US Steel Steelmark (which the Steelers logo is based on), the Bethlehem Steel Corp logo's I-beam, and a keystone for the state of Pennsylvania. US Steel and Bethlehem Steel were two of the worlds largest steel companies and were both based in Pennsylvania.

Nuclear power flag

The blue is the water that gets evaporated by the core and gets turned into pressurized steam that spins the turbines. The green 8 pointed star is the reactor core and the yellow represents the electricity that nuclear power creates.

Soviet Board of Industry flag

http://imgur.com/gprcf.png

I immediately thought of something communist when the theme was announced. It incorporates elements from the Soviet flag, a quality mark in the white stripe (a stripe like that I saw once in a Lebanese Communist flag), and a cog representing machinery.

Mining Industry Flag

The two iconic tools of mining/digging in the canton area. Green symbolizes the earth. Yellow represents precious metals, wealth, or more specifically gold.

Anthracite Coal

http://i.imgur.com/sBA11.png

This is the flag for anthracite coal, which is found in the US in the "Coal Region" of Pennsylvania. The outline is of the counties that are considered part of this coal region. The striped background of grey to white shows that most of the coal that will ever be mined here has already been mined. I can see this flag designed as part of a public relations move, with these flags put on every coal breaker, coal truck, or any building related to the coal industry. It will get dirty as hell, and fly tattered, and the white and grey stripes will get as black as the coal.

A flag for the Mining Industry

http://i.imgur.com/1aACv.jpg

The extraction of valuable minerals or other geological materials from the earth is one of earths oldest and longest running industries. From the revolutionary bronze age to today with a total market cap of US$962 billion, which compares to a total global market cap of publicly traded companies of about US$50 trillion.
