Favorites of the 1st quarter: my opinion on the list hasn't changed since the second quarter

Favorites of the 2nd quarter: I'd put DC's Locked inside a door, Seventeen's Shadow, Kep1er's LE VOYA9GE out of the list. I still like them but not enough to keep them here. My favorites might be Fromis9's Rewind, woodz's Hijack,

  • Blackpink's entire album has been on repeat for me, especially the title tracks and Typa Girl (the lyrics are just so fun)

  • EXID - Fire snuck in at the very end of Q3. I missed them and I love this banger

  • Twice - Talk That Talk is so good--just quintessential Twice

  • SNSD's album is great, but Paper Plane and Freedom stood out as my favorite side tracks

  • Aespa Girls and Illusion have been talked to death but (a) I love girls in all its superhero movie soundtrack glory, (b) Illusion is That Bitch

  • New Jeans - Attention and Hype Boy haven't left the rotation since they dropped

3rd quarter was pretty good! August being the great girl group fest, but seeing many returns after years is a sight to see.

Flash by Rocket Punch is so insanely good, it’s so catchy and just what I was missing in kpop lately. Also I love Can’t Stop Shining by Tempest and Party Rock by Cravity, I‘m so glad that bright boygroup concepts are still a thing.

Special mention goes out to Keys Gasoline album, even if the title track wasn’t my absolute favorite, the b-sides are simply amazing and Another Life is probably going be my most played song this year. The whole album was really solid and I couldn‘t be happier with it overall.

My most unexpected discovery was Eye to Eye by Limelight, the song was recommended to me and I had absolutely zero expectations, but it’s seriously one of the best songs I‘ve heard this year.

Edit: If we consider the whole year, I‘ve recently listened to Yujus Play again and I don’t know why I didn’t like it as much when I heard it for the first time, but I fell in love with this song so hard. It’s perfection if you ask me, it’s so artistic and beautiful and I think I‘m her fan now.

After literal years of abscence from KPOP, upcoming deadlines at university pushed me back into this rabbit hole. Jeez, can't say I didn't miss this.

  1. Super Junior - Mango (listening to 2nd gen KPOP feels like coming home to me)

  2. Black Pink - Pink Venom (so powerful!)

  3. Stray Kids - Maniac (love the song from strart to finish)

Carefully venturing forward regarding 4th gen KPOP. Stray Kids are so good though, I just might binge their entire conent on youtube.

The most eventful quarter of the year, based off August alone. Just perhaps missing a DC comeback (which I've been more than ready for for months at this point). Perhaps I'm the happiest of all when it comes to the albums category. Some great top 10 candidates. Treasure coming back in full swing was also fantastic; perhaps YG should let the boys go down the happy-go-lucky, synth-filled bliss road they went for with this latest project of theirs. It's just pure serotonin. Oh, and who could forget August 5th. SNSD haven't lost it one bit. Seulgi could've showed up on here as well. I just haven't given myself the time to take the album in.

Rocket Punch's Flash is incredible and I'm gonna tell you about in every thread I can. The best thing about Flash is that it made me pay more attention to Rocket Punch, so I discovered In My World which is synthpop perfection. I'm obsessed...especially with Yeonhee, who is basically Dubu v2.

Seulgi's album is also very good...I'd actually rate the album as a whole higher than ReVe 2022 (Feel My Rhythm is still SOTY though, fight me). Los Angeles is awesome, and I hope we get to see her perform it some day.

Oneus’ Malus release…I’m utterly amazed at how good this EP release is. I find that I discover amazing songs a few weeks after an album is released for the “lesser talked about kind of Kpop groups”. I’d like to say I’m more of a late to the party Kpop listener nowadays and feel so delighted when discovering a song I enjoy and end up adding it to my playlist to listen to for many days.

Of course, Blackpink’s Born Pink was great too. And I can’t forget to mention Youha’s Last Dance comeback too!

Not the only things I liked this quarter and by no means exhaustive since I'm really behind on my b-side listening (this actually reminded me there was a whole Japanese Twice album I hadn't listened to... it was great!) but after perusing the Spotify playlists, these are the ones that have stuck in my brain.
