woo /r/ZeldaOoT will be merging with /r/OcarinaofTime
/r/ZeldaOoT will be merging with /r/OcarinaOfTime
Hello Everyone,
In an effort to combine communities and discussions, this subreddit will be merging communities with /r/OcarinaOfTime. If you have any suggestions or requests for things you would like to see implemented at /r/OcarinaOfTime, please type them below and we will see if we can make accommodations. Going forward, however, please make any post relating to the game instead at /r/OcarinaOfTime.
To keep it short, both subreddits serve the same purpose likely to similar audiences. Because of this, myself and /u/SupplePancake believe the best thing to do for the viewers is to combine communities. Not to say much will change (which people may enjoy), but hopefully more posts will be created and posts will be seen by more users. At the end of the day, Reddit is a place for people to share stories, videos, and thoughts with others.
This isn't to say each community hasn't done great on its own accord.
When I look at how this subreddit has grown over the years, I am shocked that it really went anywhere, so thank you to everyone who has posted, commented, and viewed over the years. The css of this subreddit is bits and pieces of the original /r/Zelda css back at that time and the profile banner was a picture that I stretched to fit my original laptop screen, not realizing that it would not correctly scale for other computers.
This is also not a post that I am done with the game as well. I play this game most days out of the week and am gracious that /u/SupplePancake has invited me as a moderator to /r/OcarinaOfTime. So I will be moving along with everyone else.
All posts here will be archived as Reddit normally does with posts, so if there is a bookmark you made or a post you want to search for at any time, you should be able to find what you are looking for.
A big shout out to /u/Sephardson for helping with this transition.
Here is where the subreddit was as of 2/15/2021: https://imgur.com/a/q6Ofy3w

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 50: Redead
these are redeads, the zombie like monsters that debut in Ocarina of time. they're some of the scariest enemies in the game, assuming you are a child that scares easily.
redeads got a scream that will paralyze the player, and that's kind of the only thing they have going for them. they will try to grab you and strangle the life out of you, but the problem with redeads is that they're really, REALLY slow. they spend most of the time either crouched down or standing in a corner, and if you get near them they will walk towards you VERY slowly. even with their paralyzing scream, they're unlikely to catch you. heck, stray too far from them and they'll just give up and go back to their starting position.
so already the redeads are mostly a non-issue. most of the time you can walk right past them. but despite this, Ocarina of time and Majora's mask both gave them a weakness that makes them truly harmless.
in Ocarina of time's case, their weakness is the suns song. you remember the sun's song, right? the song written by that psychopath sharp and his green brother. for some reason, the sun song freezes the redeads in place. not that it makes much of a difference... they already barely moved.
Speaking of Ocarina of time, redeads appear frequently in the graveyard, including the underground area where you race Dampe. some people believe that the original EL Puerco sighting was caused simply by a confused player who mistook a redead for a pig creature. this is of course false, as all my homies know that EL Puerco is real.
in Majora's mask, the redeads got a new weakness: wear a spooky mask like the captain's hat or gibdo mask and they'll start DANCING! yeah, apparently the redeads in Majora's mask are all deceased dancers. these guys are normally slow as snails but once they see a mask, they got the moves!
Redeads are closely related to another to another zelda enemy that we'll discuss tomorrow. until then, keep on dancing.

Brave Boy
Link is a precious and brave boy. He has a lot to deal with for his young age, he has to save the world of Hyrule from the take over of Evil Ganon which is a huge and dangerous task for a boy.
Link is a very brave boy. He starts of having a major dangerous task to obtain the 3 spiritual stones to gain access to the Temple of Time going through these dangerous dungeons to obtain them and defeat bosses and encounter dangerous creatures in them. Even going through the Bottom of The Well as child Link to obtain the Lens of Truth must be a scary and unsettling task for a young boy to do.
After obtaining the 3 Spiritual Stones Link enters the Temple of Time to take out the master sword which he then travels to the future and loses a huge part of his childhood as he transition into adulthood like 8 years later as a 17 or 18 year old young man. Now as adult Link the world is dark and have been taken over by Gonon. Now he has to go on this huge task to now save Hyrule, going through dungeons to obtain all the medallions and defeat Ganon.
On the way through Link's journey he has to also travel back in time back to his childhood self, which must be very hard for Link to experience this peaceful world of Hyrule seeing the vibrant Castle Town and its residents knowing full well that danger is just under everyone's noses and complete chaos is just around the corner and Link know this as he has been through time to the future and sees the sad fate what will happen to the people and the land of Hyrule.
Link is such a brave boy and a hero who has the task to save Hyrule. It must be tough on him.

OoT remake preorder glitch?
Hello everyone. I preordered the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 at Walmart over a month ago. I got the confirmation email from them, and the link to view the order worked until a couple of weeks ago. Now I just get the same error message as shown in the picture. At first I thought it was due to site maintenance, but I've been checking almost daily now and at different times throughout the day and it's the same. I tried contacting someone but can't get past their AI agent, and it said that it can't find my order in their system. I plan on going to one of their stores later this week and explain the situation. I hope they can help me figure this out. Has anybody experienced something like this and still received their order?

[OoT] I am looking for a commercial.
This was a commercial for Ocarina of time I filmed with Doug Jones. I tied him up and hit him in the face with stuff. Then bumped into a bank robber and gave him back the hostage, gun, and money. Then I got my head cut off and put it in a jar. It was showing the contrast of a good day playing and a bad day playing. "Euphoria" I believe was the name of the commercial.

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 49: Dead Hand
this is dead hand, the sick freak that Link battles at the bottom of the well and the shadow temple. dead hand hides underground, waiting for people to get grabbed by one of its many hands so that dead hand can eat them. lovely.
now, normally when discussing N64 era zelda enemies I post a character model from the 3DS remakes, as they are of higher quality. but today I am using the N64 original. you'll notice that dead hand is covered in red bloodstains. these were removed in the 3DS version of Ocarina of time, and will likely not be present in the switch remake either. this is because Nintendo used to have balls, but nowadays, they have no balls.
for comparison, let's look at another Nintendo series: fire emblem! in 1996, fire emblem genealogy of the holy war releases. Nintendo permanently kills off the entire casts halfway through. because they had balls. fast forward to 2026, not only will nintendo never remake genealogy of the holy war, but the most recent fire emblem has a setting to censor all insect enemies. NO BALLS!
and so now dead hand isn't allowed to be covered in blood, even though the bloodstains were an integral part of the original design. we haven't seen images of it in the remake yet, but I bet Nintendo will try to make it cute so they can sell dead hand amiibos. NO BALLS!!!
on a side note, Navi refers to dead hand as an "it", but the zelda wiki claims that dead hand's pronouns are he/him. now, the zelda wiki has never steered me wrong before, but I have reason to believe this is incorrect. I don't think dead hand has pronouns... just look at it: that thing is clearly a republican senator.
Dead hand was clearly meant to be a horrific man-eating monster. this thing is supposed to be horrifying, so why can't it be covered in the blood of its victims!? we have devolved as a species if we no longer allow scary things to be in children's games. Nintendo is compromising their own artistic integrity by censoring dead hand, and I don't like it one bit! NO BALLS!
now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go start a petition for Nintendo to put the "censor all insects" feature in the Ocarina of time remake. Ocarina of time has got a lot of spiders. and spiders are icky.

Zelda posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 48: Flat and sharp
I spent three days talking about skeletons, or rather "stal" enemies, but no more stalling! time for some ghosts!
meet flat and sharp, the composer brothers! Talon and Ingo weren't enough, Ocarina of time needed MORE mario and luigi references! the composer brothers worked for the hyrule royal family, researching the power magical Ocarinas. an idea they blatantly stole from earthbound beginnings...
anyway, Ganondorf threatened the composer brothers to try and get their secrets, and rather than going to the king and telling him the scary gerudo man was threatening them, the composer brothers instead decided the rational thing to do was to off themselves and tell no one. Ocarina of time has literally zero competent NPCs on the side of good...
anyway, their "Sun Song" allows one to change day to night and vice versa. the brothers took their song to the grave, and while they initially attack link, they then realize link doesn't work for Ganondorf and decide to entrust him with their song. their whole part of the story is optional, but it's got a lot of crazy lore implications...
the two brothers return in Majora's mask with a new backstory that's somehow even darker. flat is found in the graveyard, where he teaches the song of storms... I always thought this was kind of weird. in Ocarina of time the sun song was the composer brother's song, while the song of storms was written by no one. a time paradox created it.
anyway, the song of storms is needed to defeat sharp, who not only murdered his brother flat but also sold his soul to the devil... not Majora, or someone like Demise, literally THE DEVIL from Christianity. at least according to flat. luckily future zelda games would have 99% less satanism.
when you encounter sharp, he'll try to kill link by playing the song of darkness. this song always gave me the creeps... why did no Creepypastas ever use it? that dumb "ben drowned" story used the song of healing played backwards when the song of darkness, a literal song that kills you, was right there!
you can try playing the song of healing, and sharp will comment on it saying it's too late for him to be healed. instead you gotta play his brother's song, the song of storms, and only then will sharp admit that he made a gargantuan oopsie.
and that was flat and sharp, two of the most unpleasant characters in the entire zelda series. I should probably pick something lighter and softer for tomorrow. I know, let's talk about dead hand!

Zelda posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 47: The Skeleton Crew
first, there were stalfos. then, there were stalchildren. and now, rounding out this weird 3 days of skeletons, we get this group of misfits. looks like we're gonna have a bad time.
breath of the wild had less enemies than most other zelda games. now, in the game's defense, the enemies on offer were very complex. a bokoblin alone is capable of more actions than every enemy from the first four zelda games combined. plus, hyrule was now filled with tons of wild animals for the player to set on fire.
still, a low enemy count can only mean one thing: RESKINS! yes, different color pallets would indicate enemy strength, as well as elemental properties in some cases. but of course, the most interesting of these reskins were the stal enemies. or maybe instead of reskins, it'd be more accurate them Deskins... GET IT! because they're skeletons! a real human being sat down at his computer, wrote this terrible joke, and made the conscious decision to post it on the internet even though it isn't funny!
stalkoblins, stalmoblins and stalizalfos are skeletal versions of BOTW's main baddies. there were also stalnoxs, skeletal hinoxs, who served as mini bosses. they fill the same role as Ocarina of time's Stalchildren, attacking only at night and dying when the sun rises. unlike their living counterparts, these guys fall apart when defeated, and if you don't destroy the head they can put themselves back together. once the head has been destroyed, you can pick up their arms and use them as weapons. but be warned: equip them and those skeletal arms will wiggle around trying to grab link's butt!
no additional stal enemies were added in tears of the kingdom, even though stal-horriblins would make perfect sense. but what do you think: do you prefer dedicated stal enemies like stalfos and stalchidren, or do you like the new approach of taking existing enemies and giving them skeletal counterparts?
either way, all of these skeletons running around hyrule are creepy as hell... except for the stalhorses, those are friends.

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of Time comes out. Day 46: Stalchild.
while Ocarina of time used Stalfos sparingly, saving them for mini bosses and late game encounters, the stalchild will respawn infinitely as long as you're in hyrule field at night. for every 10 stalchildren you kill, a bigger one will appear, just like with Guays and leevers. however, kill 10 more stalchildren and an even bigger one will appear. keep going and the stalchild will keep getting bigger. you'd think there's be a limit to how big they can get, and indeed, daytime will stop the stalchildren from spawning and reset the cycle. however, by modifying ocarina of time to make it always nighttime, it was revealed that the stalchildren will keep growing. forever. I assume until they crash the game.
but what is a stalchild really? is it the skeleton of a dead child, or is it simply the child of a stalfos? can skeletons even have children? well, while we never get a definitive answer in Ocarina of time, Majora's mask brings back the stalchildren as soldiers of the Ikana kingdom. child soldiers, apparently. they guard Ikana Graveyard and take orders from their leader, captain keeta, who happens to be a giant stalchild. he aint the biggest stalchild possible, but he's still pretty big. by defeating captain keeta, Link can obtain the captain's hat and impersonate captain keeta, giving the stalchildren orders. I gotta say, stalchildren are pretty chill dudes when they aren't trying to murder the living.
despite the abundance of stalchildren, Majora's mask didn't have any of the regular stalfos enemies you'd see in Ocarina of time. the closest thing we got Igos Du Ikana, the king of the Ikana kingdom, and his two soldiers. but these guys weren't generic stalfos, they were unique characters with their own unique models!
as far as 3D zelda games go, stalchildren would appear one more time in twilight princess, while regular stalfos stuck around till skyward sword. but in modern 3D zelda games we don't get traditional stalfos or stalchild enemies. they've been replaced! and tomorrow, we'll discuss why. that's right, it's another cliffhanger! two days in a row! bwa ha ha! please don't downvote me.

Zelda posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 45: Stalfos
well, with Halloween fast approaching, I guess I should start focusing on the spooky zelda enemies. and what could be spookier than spooky scary skeletons?
meet the stalfos, a skeleton enemy from the original legend of zelda. in their debut appearance, the stalfos had TWO SWORDS! but really, the swords were just for show. enemies in the OG zelda were extremely simple. some of them got a projectile, but most of them are of the "they hurt you if they touch you" variety, stalfos included. that's probably why they'd throw a bunch of enemies at you at once; they're useless on their own.
but when zelda 2 came along there were less enemies on screen at once, but the enemies that were on screen were far more tricky! the stalfos not only ditched its second sword for a shield to protect its upper body, but the stalfos would also use the sword to try to stab link, even doing the same jumping downward stab attack link could do! Zelda 2 traded its rooms full of enemies for more intense one on one combat encounters. the same kind of combat encounters the 3D games would later be known for, and yet some silly people still call zelda 2 the blacksheep of the zelda series... listen, I've been a zelda 2 defender since I was born, and I will continue to be until the day I look like stalfos.
when making their 3D debut in Ocarina of time, the stalfos retained their sword, shield and jumping attack. they were also no longer common enemies, as they appeared as mini bosses. would you look at that: Stalfos got promoted just like the moblins did.
and much like how the moblin's promotion eventually resulted in the weaker bokoblins being introduced, so too did Stalfos' promotion lead to a weaker variant, who we'll talk about tomorrow. don't you just love it when I end these on a cliffhanger?

Oot A song, 25 years in the making.
Hi all, hope you’re all excited for the OOT remake. Thought I’d share a short story that means a lot to me.
So, as you can see, I own an ocarina. This was made for me when I was 8 years old by my uncle Paul who delivered it to me in school. My parents knew I loved OOT and asked him to make one in the colour for me. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing in the world. Maybe it still is.
Now, 27 years later due to the microphone ability of the switch 2, I’ll be able to use it to play the songs that we all remember. Something we all never thought would be possible.
What an amazing thing to happen. 😃

We built an interactive OoT completion tracker — would love feedback from fellow Zelda fans!
Hey everyone!
My brother and I are huge Ocarina of Time fans, and we've been working on something we're really excited to share with the community!
It's called Znerd (We'd love to hear different name ideas), and it's an interactive progress tracker designed to make completing OoT a little easier (and maybe a little more competitive 👀).
A few things we've built into it:
- Dynamic checklists that show which items and collectibles you can currently obtain based on your progress.
- Completion tracking for things like Heart Pieces, Gold Skulltulas, and other objectives.
- Progress indicators so you can see exactly how much of the game you've completed.
- Group challenges where you can invite friends and race to see who finishes first!
With the upcoming Switch 2 version, we're especially excited to get this into the hands of other Zelda fans.
We'd love to know:
Would you use something like this during your next OoT playthrough?
And if anyone has early access to the upcoming version, we'd love to have you test it and share your feedback!
We're still improving things, so suggestions, criticism, and feature requests are all welcome.
Thanks for checking it out!
