Xenoblade Chronicles X is largely standalone in the Xenoblade Universe. However, there is new content exclusive to the definitive edition that will only be understood by people who have played the other games in the series.
There are thirteen chapters total.
In Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, BLADE level mechanics have been removed, so which division you choose has no significant impact on gameplay or progression. Pick whichever one you want!
Striker, Samurai Gunner, and Duelist wield the Assault Rifle and Longsword. This is a straightforward combination of weapons and is recommended to new players, with the longsword having high damage and the assault rifle being a versatile weapon with high utility.
Shield Trooper and Bastion Warrior use the Gattling Gun, a high damage ranged weapon specialized at handling multiple enemies at once, and the shield, a great weapon for survivability but with low damage for the main story.
Commando, Winged Viper, and Full Metal Jaguar use Dual Guns and Dual Swords. This class is considered the fastest way to really take advantage of the game's mechanics, with dual guns being a self-sufficient weapon with high survivability while dual swords have a good mix of damage and utility arts and a focus on positional gameplay, much like Shulk in Xenoblade 1.
Partisan Eagle and Astral Crusader wield the Sniper Rifle, a very high damage weapon, and Javelin, a unique weapon with good options for survivability and a focus on electric damage.
Enforcer, Psycorruptor, and Mastermind wield the Raygun and Knife, both weapons with strong support options but with few strong damage options during the main story.
Blast Fencer and Galactic Knight wield Psycho Launchers, a weapon with strong options for utility and survivability but low damage, and the Photon Saber, a weapon that focuses on chaining multiple successive melee attacks together.
Once you've mastered the end of a class line you can use its weapons on any other class, meaning that after mastering all classes you can match any ranged weapon with any melee weapon. Experiment to find the combination that works best for you!
Each recruitable party member has two arts exclusive only to them, but by completing their affinity missions, you can unlock those arts for yourself.
Once you complete Chapter 6, the quest "The Skell License" will become available, which will give you the ability to get Skells for you and other members of your party.
The arts a skell has are determined by the weapons it has equipped in each of its Shoulder, Back, Arm, and Spare weapon slots. You can purchase these weapons in the shop or obtain them by defeating certain enemies.
Please try to word your question as spoiler free as possible. If your question cannot be asked without spoilers, use spoiler tags and mention what chapter of the game you are in.
(Depricated, but leaving it here for sentimental reasons.)

He always said he hated the gameplay and that it was mobile level game gameplay. And now he bought it randomly with no extra convincing and he's loving it

I’ve been playing XB2 again, and please correct me if I’m wrong. But the blades can’t appear and disappear like a pokeball right, and even tho we send blades on Merc Missions and we have the camp.
Do we look like a walking army? Taking in the fact that we can carry 3 blades with us.
Just by traveling the party and 1 blades looks intimidating, now imagine 5 drivers and 15 blades pulling up to the inn in gormott lol
Just never thought about it and it was really funny to me once I imagine it

Messing around in blender more and inspired after the love for the short animation. Currently trying to reproduce them preforming City of Colour. For now, just working on them pose in the Stay Fresh pose. Will do the reverse later with Callie and Marie in Pyra and Mythra's Clothes

Shulk and Rex talking about Klaus. It's an interesting thing because these two learn a lot by the end of their games but there's still a lot of gaps that are pretty much all filled by FR. How do you think their opinion of Klaus changed? Imo I don't think it would be equal. Shulk only really knew him as evil but did understand it wasn't so clearcut by the end, so I'm not sure learning about XB2 Klaus would really change his thoughts on him. Him correcting himself and calling the old world Klaus' rather than Zanza's does at least show a bit of respect maybe.
Then there's Rex who I think would have a bit of a harder time. Because he didn't really have a clue about the other Klaus. For all he knew the over version Klaus talked about could've been unfairly killed. I suppose it's just funny because Shulk doesn't really get to understand Zanza till after he's dead meanwhile Rex does manage to have a moment with Klaus thanking him for creating everyone only to discover the extent of his fuck ups.
This is why I really like Rex's line in the final battle sarcastically thanking Klaus for yet another consequence of his actions. I think it's easy to view XB2 Klaus as the "true" Klaus just because he's good and is fully aware of his past actions but really both are equally Klaus.

Meh-meh-meh!!! Yes, that is my theory. As we can see, in the first and final trailer for Xenoblade Genesis, there's not a single Nopon appearance... so my theory is that, given the world we inhabit is circular, I faithfully believe we are inside a giant Nopon, and we're beings that exist within this Nopon. Exactly, yep, that's definitely it. Nopons are mostly fluffy round blobs; if the world is circular, it means we're inside one. Plus, let's be honest, we all know every Nopon is powerful enough to possess the equivalent power of six suns inside them.
I dub this theory "Earthpon", and I hope you all like and approve of it.

Hi. Hope this question is allowed. I’m asking for my 10 year old. He plays the game, but I don’t. Can anyone tell us which Blade this is?

Idk if this is a legit controller, but if it isn't its a damn good fake. Either way I'm very happy as I paid around 6000/- (60 dollars) for it.

Think about it, she spent her entire existence caring for Mabon and his kids, to the point they thought of her as mum. Their children grow up and move out, and eventually Mabon dies and Vess goes back to her core crystal, and ends up basically in the possession of someone she had just met not long ago. I know Rex and co. built a friendship with those two, but it still makes me sad whenever I use her to fight or to run mercenary missions. They should’ve at least have Rex take the core crystal back to their kids and let them decide.

I've finished xenoblade chronicles definitive edition today.
I loved the game, besides the quantity of side quests and I felt too dependent of having shulk as team leader from mid game until the end. So, for me, the variaty of the party composition was not that good.
However, I loved the music, the story and, more specifically, the gameplay mechanics.
All of the arts combination's and party synergy, choosing equipament with the appropriate gems. At the end game I was min maxing the skill tree, equipment, party composition, gems and arts to beat major enimies being underleveled.
That being said, I've seen that some people dislike xeno 2. But I'd like to know your opinion about the game and to know if I should give it a try. I do enjoy RPGs and would like to know about the good and bad things about xeno 2 to make a decision.
Edit: Also, would be good to go directly to xeno 2? I mean, would I be overwhelmed playing it in a row? I usually don't play games from the same franchise back to back besides some 2d zeldas
