Question Do I wife her?

I’ve been on the grind working night shifts lately and just coming home completely exhausted. Walked through the door tonight and found all of this waiting for me on the table.

For context, I’ve played wow on and off since my early teens back in 2004, so this game has been a huge part of my life. My partner isn't a gamer at all and knows nothing about it. She’s also mildly on the spectrum and has a hard time verbally expressing her feelings, which honestly leaves me feeling like she doesn't care about me sometimes.

Tonight I'm just gobsmacked. Turns out that while I was away pulling all those night shifts, she was secretly teaching herself enough about the game to hand knit both of these banners from scratch.

On top of that, she had clearly been listening to me complain about missing the Australian run of the collectors edition (I’ll have to see if blizzard will refund my digital pre-order now lol). She went on marketplace to track one down for me, and I have no idea how she found the helm of domination, she just told me the person selling the box had the helm and the little figurines listed too so she bought the lot to surprise me.

She might struggle to put her feelings into words, but coming home to this after a brutal month on nights said everything I needed to hear.

I’m going to have to make some room on my desk.

Edit: didn’t expect this to explode like it did. I should clarify, yes this is crochet, not knitting, this isn’t something I have witnessed her doing, she was already asleep when I got home so the questions needed to wait.

Since so many people have asked for the patterns, she got them from here:

Question Is it worth taking a day off work on launch day?

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

Thinking of taking a day off work for WoW Forever, but I still remember the insane queues during the Classic SoD launch.

With Forever being even more hyped, do you think launch day will actually be playable, or should I save my day off for the next day?

Anyone else taking time off?

Question WoW Forever proposal: an in-game content voting system

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’d love to hear your thoughts on an idea I think could work. Those of us who want WoW Forever to succeed want Blizzard to really listen to its community, and to build the path forward together so it doesn’t go off the rails.

Other MMORPGs are still successful today thanks to horizontal content, and some even went back to an older version, like Old School RuneScape (with peaks of 240,000 players). When they launched it, Jagex realized they needed to listen to the community, so they put voting booths in the game’s banks. Every month, proposals are put forward, and anyone who wants to take part can vote on which new content they’d like to see added in the future, and which they wouldn’t.

This system has been working for years, and I think something similar would be a great fit for WoW Forever. Since the game already has mailboxes, Blizzard could occasionally send us letters with a quick survey so players can vote on the different proposals on the table. What do you think? I believe the important decisions about Forever’s direction should be made by developers and players together.

Someone might ask: what's the incentive to vote? I'd say they could give out some kind of token for cosmetics, like "community points" or something along those lines.

(Yes, I used a translator to express my proposal properly, I hope it makes sense haha)

Question Anyone else not come up with a name yet?

Anyone else still trying to come up with names before reservation happens?

For me personally, I want to play an Undead Paladin, Orc Warrior, and Orc Warlock. I can't for the life of me think of good names for them, I'll be playing on RP rule set.

Question How do we level as a trio without hating our lives?

Post image
880 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

WoW Forever is right around the corner, and the three of us are planning a one-week launch lan party together. We’ve been playing WoW since Classic, but we never actually leveled together. Now we’re all dads with families and not much free time, so we agreed to block out one week and play much as we can.

We’ve been digging around for info on how XP works for a 3-man group in WoW Forever, but we can’t find any solid data on how it gets split (we found only classic data). We’re a bit worried that dungeons will give us way less XP than in Classic, and that questing in open world as a trio will be painfully slow.

A few things we’d love your input on:

  • Group comp: We’re thinking the holy trinity (tank, DPS, healer). Is that actually the best setup for leveling, or is there a comp that works better with three?
  • XP in a group of 3: Has anyone seen real numbers on how XP is split in Forever? If not, what was your experience in Classic leveling as a trio?
  • collect quests: Is it worth doing quests together where you need to farm items with a low drop rate (like hoofs etc.) ?
  • What worked and what didn’t: Anything you’d do differently if you had to level as a trio again?

We’re old wolves, not afraid of the grind, and happy to take any advice. We just want to spend our limited time in the smartest way possible.

Thanks a lot! FOREVER HYPE!

EDIT: Sorry about the slightly dramatic title, I may have pushed it a bit too far. We’re all super hyped for the launch, no question about it.

Question Do any of you choose faction based on the main city? Stormwind VS Orgrimmar

Thumbnail

I’m still trying to decide which faction to choose on the 4th.

I’ve never played the Alliance and the other day I thought about the dwarves, since I want to start with a paladin, and playing one as a dwarf feels much more "right" to me based on my personal 'role-playing lore' of that class than playing one as an undead.

And that, in turn, made me think about the lack of resources the Horde faced when building Orgrimmar.

Compared to Stormwind, I feel like Orgrimmar is… ugly. Except for the music, of course.

Have any of you chosen a faction based solely on the capital city?

Question What race/class will you be choosing?

Post image

The beta is coming to a close, many changes were made and I suspect the devs will make a few more before release behind the scenes. Was your initial class and spec what you hoped it would be? Did the changes made during the beta make you rethink your pick?

I think I’ve locked in Orc Warrior. The racials, even with the “nerf” seem to call to me. I’ve also played alliance for the last 17 years and want to start fresh with the horde, so I’m locked in. What’s your pick?

Question I'm excited for Forever, Legitimately think it's going to be the best version of wow yet, but I have to ask. If dungeons are only worth it once, arn't we going to have an obscene amount of these specific problems?

Let's face it, our community at times can be fairly selfish. You know it, I know it, we all know it.

I can't see where in a situation were running the dungeon only once or twice being worth it, and no mob XP doesn't lead to the following situations super frequently.

  • Individually players leaving, as soon as their quest step is finished.
  • Players there for their first time rolling Need on everything because they're only there once
  • Healer and Tank shortages because of aforementioned issues.
  • A frustrating situation where players have to repeat 80% of the dungeon because of aforementioned dropouts, leading to a very depressing scenario of "Oh yeah, this is my third time but only because we never get to the end before people drop or give up"
  • An increase in Trade channel boosting because plenty of people will want the guaranteed clear and quest steps.
  • A situation where the few tanks/healers that do have the time meet a party that want to speed run the quest steps and ignore what mobs they can (Aka, running dungeons like Retail instead of Classic)

I could keep going, but I think you get the point.

I love wow Forever, I genuinely think it's incredible and I can't wait for Nov 4th but, these are obvious problems from a half thought out idea that simply don't exist in Era, Anniversary, Hardcore or Original Classic.

Is this allowed to be discussed without any trolls, I don't expect just "Do it like classic" to be popular, but I do believe we as a community can think of much better ways to deal with this.

I mean off the back of my hand alone surely these are better than the current status quo?

  • Normal mob/quest XP but a debuff after a run lasting 24 hours to a week that reduces XP by 25% and stacks. (Could make it even less depressing by increasing rare drop chance by 25% too, everyone wins)
  • Weekly Dungeon Lockouts (Can't spam it if you can only do it once!), Should be enough dungeons to make it manageable and it's better than "Everything bad because . . . shut up"
  • Simply leaving it alone? (Why make negative controversial changes to such a core classic element in "Classic +"? It's not supposed to be Classic -.
  • Literally anything else at all that doesn't penalise healers and tanks, restrict gameplay choices and force the devs "Intended gameplay" to people who enjoy Fungeons.

Edit : No AI was used to make this point. I'm an academic writer by trade. I appreciate the comparison and take it as a compliment. Also thanks for the level head 95% of you, a lot of great feedback and food for thought <3

Question Beginner Question - What are the "invisible" habits experienced WoW players do automatically that a total beginner like myself wouldn't think to do?

New to WoW, currently leveling a Human Paladin and enjoying the adventure so far. I'm past the basics (I think) but I keep suspecting there's a whole layer of small habits experienced players do on autopilot that nobody actually explains and things you'd only learn by playing for years.

My recent example is I didn't find the Paladin trainer to help me buy new skills and I'm sitting at level 8 with almost no additional skills/attacks.

Any suggestions on things you do every single play session without thinking about or things that you had no idea about when you first started?

Question HELP! What the heck are we going to play for the two weeks after beta ends until launch?

I'm already dying here. I've been combing steam for any RPG to scratch that itch. Trolling through my backlog of games. Installing other MMOs, playing for 10 minutes, then uninstalling again. Seriously, these are going to be the longest two weeks ever. What are you all going to play?

Question My wife wants to play WoW - any advice from the Council of the married?

Red alert. All hands on deck. This is not a drill.

My dear wife, whom I love very much, has decided she wants to try WoW when Forever launches.

Her entire gaming career so far consists of getting one character to level 16 in classic. She stopped because of real life stuff though.

WASD is still a developing skill. Camera control is an advanced technique. The entire keyboard is basically hostile user interface.

So obviously this needs some careful planing.

PvP server? Absolutely not. We would like to remain married.
Melee? Probably not.
Stances / Shape shifting / totems? No thanks.
Pets? One extra thing to accidentally lose track of.
Hybrid classes? Last time she had serious trouble switching between healing and DPS during a fight.

We will always level together as a duo. I thought about playing Shaman, mostly covering the healing/rezzing/emergency-"oh god what's happening" department.

Right now I am actually thinking Mage might be the best choice for her. Very straightforward core gameplay, ranged, no pet, no stance/form nonsense, and lots of useful utility that we can introduce gradually and that is produced ooc.

The main goal isnt efficiency. I dont care if it takes us 200 hours to reach level 60.

I just think it could be really cool to experience WoW together - but she needs to be eased into it very, very gently.

So, Council of the married:

What class would you recommend for someone who is basically learning how keyboards work at the same time as learning WoW?

And perhaps more importantly:

What mistakes should I absolutely avoid as the husband/WoW instructor?
And just as I am coming to the end of this post: I would also really appreciate hearing from the people who have actually walked in her shoes. If you started WoW with little or no gaming experience, what helped you and what made things unnecessarily frustrating?

Asking for the continued survival of my marriage. Thanks.

p.s. in the end she can chose whatever she likes...i just want have some good advice.
It will be horde though, as our friends are playing horde.

Question Am I the only one who's really not bothered by HD and SD coexisting?

I feel so disconnected from this little war between HD and SD because I really don't mind. HD models have higher fidelity and more polygons than the world but it doesn't look unnatural to me and I haven't been pulled out of the game once by it, am I the only person who feels that way?

Question After the Beta: Have You Changed Your Main?

Now that the beta is coming to an end, I'm curious to see how everyone's class choices have changed.

There was a class poll a while ago, so I thought it would be interesting to run an updated one now that we've had more time to test the changes and see how the classes perform.

This time, the poll also separates Horde and Alliance classes to give us a more detailed picture of what the population might look like at launch.

What are you planning to main at release?

Feel free to share what made you stick with your original choice or change your mind!

Question When did people start desiring XP more than loot?

So like, for this whole "No one will run dungeons now because they nerfed the XP" mentality, which I'm not criticizing that outlook, it could very well be true. So like, remembering way back when, you didn't get a group together to do Deadmines, for the XP. I would have done it even if you didn't get ANY XP from it. I went in there for the treasure.

You can get XP from literally anything. That treasure you can only get from that dungeon.

But like, people seem to be fixated on getting to 60. and yeah, I understand that. It's like a desire to excel. To be the actual trailblazers and explorers. To see the loot before it's posted on Wowhead.

I actually think as time goes on, more people will be doing dungeons, even with the lowered XP rates, because over time the mentality of the game may change a few people.

Like I've said many times, I love being less than max level. I wish the game had a staggered leveling system, but after SoD's kind of disastrous fall from grace after that first phase kicked so much ass, I think Blizz is worried if they did phased releases people may lose interest before they even get to 60, like what happened last time.

And really, being able to hop on and go all the way will be cool. Then jump on an alt and do it again, only this time with a few perks and all the gold gifted from the main...

If you're worried about not being able to find groups, just get in a GOOD guild. Like, not the first one that sends you an invite when you walk into the city but is filled with people that never actually want to do group content with you...

Add people to your friends list that you did group with who were decent.

Name and shame people who leave the group mid dungeon because they didn't get their drop, or they finished their quest. At the very least block them so you never have to see them again.

People who want to do dungeons will find people to do them with, even if they aren't the best way to level. I think 99% of people who start a dungeon intend to finish it.

So yeah, no worries, remember you're there for the treasure. XP will find its way to you. This is an MMO, it's supposed to take a while.
