Alrighty, we're getting a westie, but my parents are terrible at naming things. Please help me find a name.
For context,
- My name was decided on a coin flip, and they lost the coin, so they settled on combining the two names to get mine.
- My sisters were literally Baby A and Baby B for the first two weeks of their lives before they were named.
- Our first westie, Lenny, was named after a blind sea turtle in a sea turtle hospital. Every name suggestion we had was shot down, right up until we had to go to a barbecue and my mom scrambled for a name. That's when my sister suggested Lenny.
- Our mini Australian Shepherd got her name, Lucy(also goes by Lucybelle) because it went nicely with Lenny. She was probably the greatest naming success case in this household.
Anyways, my parents SUCK at naming things, but thankfully we have a month and a half before we're going to get our new pup from the breeder. I want to make sure to give this pup a good name that sounds good with Lucy, but isn't to close to Lenny(we lost him earlier this year, rest his sweet old soul).
My mom doesn't want a one syllable name. She wants something that kinda flows with good or silly nicknames. Some of Lennys nicknames included Lenny Lou, Uncle Lou, Bubby, and Scooby Doo Lenny Lou(yes, he answered to all of these). Some of Lucy's nicknames includes Lucybelle, Lucielle, Lucy-fer, Belly Belle, and Luce. Evidently, it seems we have a knack for unintentionally giving our dogs middle names as well, though that kinda evolves as we get to know them.
My mom is not opposed to the idea of naming the pup after characters on her shows, but we're struggling to narrow it down.
Here at the names I suggested that were LIKED, but were ultimately shot down;
Elliot; my dad LOVED this name suggestion, but my Mom hated it. So no bueno.
Theo: We all liked this name, but we decided it wasn't "right" because it was to short and couldn't find any good flowing nicknames. I'm still very partial to this name though.
Sonny; My mom liked this name, but it was shot down because we didn't want him mistaken for being a "Sunny".
Other name suggestions that we've tossed around; Colby, JJ, Cody, Chuck Norris, Walker, and Johnny Cash(two of these were submitted by my father, he thinks he's hilarious). I know for certain my mom does not like Archie.
Anyways, if anyone has any ideas, please lemme know! I don't want this poor pup to be known as "Pup" or "Dog" until we have to scramble for a name before Christmas.

Senior night howling?
Hi all,
Fred is the 14-year old Westie who owns me. He is starting to show his age and his Westietude is starting to look like the crotchety elder that he is. Generally, he is very mobile and loves chasing squirrels and going for shorter walks. He has some yucky teeth and some arthritic hind joints, but overall very healthy.
Over the past six months, he has started to howl at night. Once after we go to bed routinely, then many nights in the middle of the night and almost always around 5:30 am. Sometimes he wants to go out. Other times, he is in one of his beds just howling!
Does anyone else experience this and/or have any idea what is going on?

Adopt Bruce! Senior Westie Looking for his Forever Home in NC
Bruce is an 11-year-old Westie who was surrendered to Westie Rescue Southeast by his previous owner. After months of giving warning signs that he didnāt appreciate young kiddos in his space, Bruce ended up biting their toddler. He is being fostered in Raleigh, NC and is still looking for a place to call home where he can feel safe and be given the love and patience he needs to open up and show his true personality.Ā
Bruce was incredibly bonded to his previous owner (a man) and through a temp foster, weāve discovered Bruce really needs a man in the house, as this helps him feel even more relaxed, at ease, and happy.Ā
During his 3 months in a foster home, weāve gotten to know Bruce pretty well. Bruce does not like having his feet touched or being handled without his consent. Itās pretty easy, actuallyā¦all you need to do is ask him if he wants pets!Ā
If you extend your hand to Bruce, heāll lick your hand, rub his head against you, or wag his tail in excitement to show you heās ready for affection! And if not, heāll simply look away as if heās saying, ānot right now.ā Bruce just needs a partner who will love him as he is, give him respect, and follow his lead.Ā
Bruce will make a wonderful companion for someone who wants a chill, lowkey dog who will follow you from room to room. He may not be a touchy feely dog who wants to wrestle, be picked up, or lay all over your lap, but Bruce wants to be included! Heās content to sit next to you on the couch or lie down at your feet. And he really does love to be pet when you ask him, first!Ā
Bruce is also house trained and crate trained and walks great on a leash. He loves nothing more than to talk a leisurely walk outside! He is around 20 pounds and HW negative.Ā
This sweet senior boy is looking for his forever home where he can spend his golden years - if you think youād be a good fit for Bruce, please submit an adoption application through Westie Rescue Southeastās website to be considered: https://westierescuesoutheast.org/adopt-or-volunteerĀ
Please note the following requirements to adopt Bruce:Ā
- Fully fenced yardĀ
- No children or grandchildren that live in the home or regularly visit (only 15+)Ā
- No other pets (Bruce is used to being the only dog/pet in the house and likes it that way!)
- Must live within 4 hours of Raleigh, NCĀ
- Bruce also requires a man in the house āŗļø

Westie āplantsā and refuses to walk on leash. What worked for yours?
Hi all! Looking for advice from fellow Westie owners.
Rufus is 5 months old and has started planting on walks: he locks his legs, sits or lies down, and wonāt budge. It happens on almost every walk now.
Background:
- Age: 5 months
- Health: No issues.
- Walk routine: 5 times a day, no more than 20 minutes each time.
- Leash: We use a harness that connects to the leash on his back.
What weāve tried:
- Medium-value rewards
- Waiting him out (unhelpful when we have places to be)
- Changing direction (unhelpful when we have places to be)
- Collar instead of harness
Nothing has stuck so far and itās getting really frustrating. Is this classic Westie stubbornness, or could something else be going on? Would love to hear what actually worked for your terrier.
Thanks in advance! š¾

Westie Diet
Hello! Can I ask what do you guys feed your Westies and the exact amount? My 7 month old Westie recently decided that she doesnāt like eating kibbles and I switched to K9 Natural Freeze Dried Lamb Feast and sheās been eating well again! Only concern is the price because itās $200 per 1.8 kg where Iām from. I feed her 80 g per day and if I continue it will cost me $200 per month. š„²
Do you guys cook for your Westies? And what do you cook for them and how much do you give them if you do? Thank you!
