Ask Me Anything (AMA) Hi everyone, I’m Brandon Straka, founder of #WalkAway Campaign, a true grassroots movement, dedicated to sharing the stories of people who can no longer accept the current ideology of liberalism and what the Democrat Party has become. Ask Me Anything!
Many former Democrats have recently been “red-pilled”. Some here have wanted to leave for some time, but have feared the consequences they might suffer from friends or family if they walk away.
But this campaign also serves another very important purpose. For far too long, the left has controlled the narrative in this country in news and media while the “silent majority” on the right have done what they always do—remained silent. The left has been allowed for so long to reinforce the narrative that everybody on the right is a bigot, a racist, a homophobe, a misogynist, etc. But the left has become so extreme, it’s now time to fight back. I want people on the right to use their voices and tell the world the truth about who they are. Please make a video telling everyone what it means to be a conservative in America. What your values really are. Tell minorities on the left who have been told their whole lives that they are not welcome on the right because of the bigotry and hatred of the people on the right that they are welcome. That there is a seat at the table on the right for everybody.
This is a movement of patriots of all walks of life- men, women, black, brown, white, straight, LGBT, religious, un-religious, who share something very important in common... we are Americans. And we want our country back.

Hi Brandon, thanks in advance for taking my question.
The Trump Administration has characterized the threat Russian propagandists pose to our upcoming election as "pervasive and on-going." Multiple media outlets have characterized the #WalkAway movement "astroturfed campaign" driven on social media by Russian-linked accounts. [censored]
Do you welcome promotion from Russian propagandists? Or do you believe that damages the message?
Additionally, what evidence can you show to demonstrate that the movement includes significant numbers of actual democrats leaving the party?
Thanks for your response.

Hi Brandon,
Your interview was banned from r/iAMA, where one mod called our black guest an uncle tom and another called you a "lying faggot"
How do you respond to this censorship?

I don’t support censorship in any way. This is why I think Reddit is a cool concept. Let the free market decide how people feel about other people’s comments.

A good friend of mine is a closeted conservative in the LGBT+ community. I've seen how that sector has treated other LGBT people of ideologically differing opinions other than left and I've wonder how you have fared since walking away and if you have any advice that could be passed on to LGBT people who are scared or worried about revealing themselves in this environment?

One of the things I wanted to accomplish with the #WalkAway Campaign is to change the narrative about how “hateful” people on the right are.
As more and more people on the right tell the truth about who they are, it will become more and more difficult for the left to continue perpetuating the narrative that the right is not welcoming and inclusive.
As long as people keep speaking up, it won’t be long before being gay and conservative is no longer taboo.

What is your favorite walk away story thus far? Was coming out as a conservative harder than coming out as gay?
46
u/RealBrandonStraka Aug 07 '18
I really can’t choose because, honest to God, every time I watch a new video, it becomes my favorite one!
Coming out gay was not easy for me, so I don’t know that I could say that this is worse. However, when I came out as conservative, the backlash has come from so many people in my own community who have been through this themselves and should really know better. That makes it pretty hard to deal with.

Whats your thoughts on the banning of Alex Jones on multiple social media platforms?

u/RealBrandonStraka Aug 07 '18
It is horrifying to know that in a country that celebrates free speech, the liberal powers that control social media are deciding what we can and cannot hear and what we can and cannot read.
Many people have polarized views of Alex Jones. He has been nothing but kind and supportive to #WalkAway Campaign.

What initially made you a Democrat? Did you hold any progressive views? Which issue is most important to you and why? How do you think walking away will bring you/the US closer to solving the issues you find most important? If presented with new facts are you open to changing your mind again?

Hi Brandon - I am a lifelong conservative who especially since President Trump has been elected, has for the most part kept my head down and my mouth shut because of the fear and abuse when people find out you’re conservative or voted for Trump. Being called Nazi, traitor, terrorist, whore and c*nt for the last year plus has not been fun. Your walk away page has made me not so fearful of telling people I am conservative, and to stand up for myself . Thank you for your courage and the courage of those walking away and telling their stories!

I am so sorry for what you have endured, but you are not alone! There are a lot of people coming together now, and we’re here to support you and to lift you up!

Brandon, what advice would you give to those of us who cannot publicly walk away because the fallout would be too damaging to our professional or personal lives? I believe that for every person who posts their walkaway story on Facebook, there are many more who would if they could but can't risk it. How can we help the movement? And how can we find each other while not outing ourselves to the public at large? BTW I'm a lesbian in the bluest of blue states. And I am more in the closet than I ever was as a lesbian, even though I came out when being a lesbian was basically illegal.

What I say to people whose situations are too dangerous or restrictive to allow them to boldly #WalkAway: find ways in your own life to be a little more brave every day. Also, something as simple as sharing the #WalkAway Campaign with other people—even privately—is a proactive step you can take to help change the world.

Brandon,
Why should minorities walkaway from the party that openly embraces them towards the GOP in light of the fact that Rep. Steve King said "whites are the only ones responsible for civilization" and the fact that the GOP has embraced #BlueLivesMatter in clear opposition to the mere statement that black lives matter?
And why should LGBT people walk away when the GOP has gay conversion therapy on its platform and gay marriage was to be overturned if the wishes of Ted Cruz and others were allowed to come to fruition?
Thanks

In what way is the walkaway movement applicable to libertarians?
How is the republican party any better if they have demonstrably shown they have no regard for the American people's rights?

Hi Brandon~
You were so eloquent in describing your reasons for walking away. I wonder if you have an opinion on the Social Media giants purging the internet (for the most part), of controversial figure, Alex Jones and his affiliate, Infowars. I'm asking because I personally (even though I'm not a fan), am flabbergasted and terrifed that all the Leftist tech companies came together to unite against this man. I'm most concerned because I think their reasoning is his follower numbers, and the fact that he supports Trump. How do you feel about it all?
29
u/RealBrandonStraka Aug 07 '18
I feel as terrified and frustrated as you do.
The powers that be on the left have decided for us that their opinions are the only acceptable ones.
It’s time for more competition in social media platforms in which the creators do not force their own agendas or inhibition of open dialogue on the public.

2 questions: What is the easiest way to convince a liberal to use logic and take accountability? And do you think the MSM's stance on defending racist bigots like Sarah Jeong and backing Pedophile Rights will play a significant part in the midterm elections or go overlooked?
