Jinbochou, TokyoJune 1922, Taisho EraThe Rainy Season

Tamamori came to Tokyo with his sights set on getting accepted to the Imperial University. However, he doesn't pass the entrance exam, and is so undisciplined and wrapped up in endless fantasies that he's kicked out of his boarding house after only two years. Through a stroke of luck, Tamamori begins to live and work at Umebachidou, a used book store. There, he enjoys whiling away his time as a "student preparing for entrance exams" and taking advantage of friends who are also from his hometown. But one right after the other, mysterious deaths befall those friends and, realizing he's been repeating the same rainy three days over and over again, Tamamori finds himself racing throughout Jinbochou to save them.

In this pop-occult mystery that surrounds the deaths of his friends... What is real, and what is a hallucination?

This was such a wild ride for me. I really could have done without the romantic route for the villain, but I loved the twists and turns and the complex characters. This game gave me the same vibes as the endless loops in Suzuha’s roll in Steins;Gate, but it actually worked better for me here.

I just finished this VN a few days ago and loved it so much!

It’s a pity nobody talks about this rare gem much but I think it’s a masterpiece! To me it’s even more engaging than Higurashi and Raging Loop.

I kept recommending this VN these few days in a lot of posts LOL.

For what it's worth, it's easily the highest rated BL VN on vndb which is part of why I wanted to include it in this subreddit discussion schedule.

The more recommendations the better imo! It has a lot to offer even folks who aren’t generally fans of BL.

I just finished it a few days ago and it blew my mind!

It starts off with the usual dark mystery vibes like Higurashi or Raging Loop. But as the characters and the story develop, it becomes a twisted, bizarre, and even psychedelic journey which is so out of this world. If you don’t mind BL contents and a quirky, not-too-likeable MC, you have my recommendation!

The artwork is extremely beautiful too. It has some classic paintings touch (the story is set in 1922 BTW), unlike the usual anime style CG.

This is one of my favorite VNs of all time and I may or may not have made my iPhone icons and widgets all Hashihime-themed. I'm just so in love with the art style and characters. I'm so happy it's getting more attention! Thanks to Manga Gamer for the translation and discount! If anyone hasn't, you should also check out the Manga Gamer blog page since they have the lyrics to all the songs, extra definitions of translated words, and a list of all the referenced literary works. It's pretty interesting, especially since this game is so steeped in Japanese literature and culture not often covered in popular media.
