Serious A friendly reminder …

Feeling strongly about an issue is fine. Expressing your views with passion is fine. Attacking other members of the community or using hateful or racist language is not. All of you are wise enough to know the difference. If you wouldn’t be comfortable saying what you want to say in a classroom full of students and faculty, don’t say it, or find a better way to say it. We aren’t fourth graders, we don’t call each other names. If you do so, your comments will be removed. If you keep doing so, you’ll be banned. And if you use hateful language, you’ll be immediately banned and reported to Reddit. So please, make your point, be passionate about it, but respect your fellow community members or leave this sub.

Future Quaker Wharton Early Decision

UPenn ED acceptance rate is around 14%, but they don’t post a singular Wharton rate. Does anyone know whether or not ED to Wharton gives an admissions boost to unhooked applicants? I’ve heard varying answers and am unsure to the extent it helps, especially since Wharton remains incredibly competitive.

Academic/Career Chem 1011 or Chem 1012?

Is it easier to take Chem 1011 intro to general chemistry 1 or chem 1012 general chemistry 1? I didn’t take AP Chemistry and the last time I had a chemistry class was in 10th grade. Also any thoughts on Fagan for chem 1012?

Social Random interaction at Van Pelt last night

To the Asian girl sitting across from me on the main floor of Van Pelt last night from 8-9:30pm. You were sitting at those big desks and I was the guy at the computer who asked you to watch my stuff for a minute.

I accidentally startled you, and when you smiled afterward, I thought it was a super cute meet-cute moment.

I wish I would’ve introduced myself so let me take my chances here. Your noise cancellation headphones work a bit too well.

DM if that was you :)

Academic/Career Uncoordinated Dual Degree in SEAS

Hi all. My home school is Arts and Sciences, given that the advisor has approved my tentative schedule (which is quite reasonable in terms of workload and completing prereqs), how difficult would it be to apply for an Uncoord Dual Degree in SEAS?
I am estimating that my GPA will be around 3.5-3.6 at the time of application, which is higher than the minimum GPA threshold of 3.0.
Any advice is appreciated!

Academic/Career How good are the opportunities in SP2/nonprofit leadership ?

Hi yall. So i'm looking into the sp2 department's MS in nonprofit leadership . I am interested in penn for this program because i have some good experience in nonprofit administration and many connections within my sector (however, this is limited to the county in which i work). I want to strengthen my connections to philly and across the nonprofit sector in general.

what are some experiences with the program? Did you find that it helped you make stronger connections and find a good job? What are some of the upsides and downsides of the program? Let me know in the comments

I am not going to be a CS major, but I am interested in Cog Sci and marketing, and would like to know at least some sort of coding to prepare myself for jobs related to those majors. Which one would be more fruitful to take?

Academic/Career Looking for reviews for CIS 2500/3990, anyone taking it this semester?

Hi there, I'm wondering how this new "Software Development with AI Coding Agents" course is doing so far?

For those of you taking it, do you think it's a good course? Useful? Heavy / easy-A?

Also I've heard it will become part of the CIS core in the future

Academic/Career fman spring schedule

this fall semester I took/am taking math 1410, phys 0150, cis 1600, and cis 1200 which has been by far the most ive worked in my life, for context.

this spring im thinking of taking 1210, ese 3010, phys 0151, and ese 3600 (along with a global seminar)

is this doable? I wanna have time for clubs, so im leaving linear algebra to sophomore fall (which I plan to take with cis 2400 and 2620 and an elective).

for context, im considering compe which is why im taking ese 1120, and im taking ese 3010 because I want to have a baseline for probability so studying the green book for qt interviews sophomore fall will be smoother than no prior introduction other than cis 1600.

thoughts? im (obviously) in no clubs right now due to this workload, so will I be able to do things like research or join pennlabs or smth?

Academic/Career EESC 1000 (Earth Systems Science) with J. Murphy

Has anyone taken EESC 1000 with either J. Murphy during the regular semester or Maria-Antonia Andrews over the summer?

I still need to fulfill my Physical World gen ed requirement and I am looking for a relatively easy class with a manageable workload.

How difficult were the weekly quizzes and assignments? Were the quizzes open notes? For the online summer section were they proctored? How much studying did you typically need to do and was getting an A manageable?

Would you recommend this course, or are there easier Physical World alternatives?

Academic/Career Writ0020 Help

I'm currently registering for classes for the spring, and I need to take a writing seminar. Unfortunately, I have very limited options because of the availability of my other classes and the only teacher that seems to have a class on a time I can sign up for is Patrick T. Wehner. If anyone has had him before, how is he? It seems like his rating as an instructor is a little lower than the other professors on the course plan website. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Sports Squash courts on weekends?

I'm in a tournament at Penn in two weekends (Sat. Nov. 7) and I was wondering if all the courts tend to get used on Saturdays...according to the Penn Racquets Center website they set aside courts 10, 11, and 12 for Penn students (but the others might be reserved for the tournament itself). I hate only getting two minutes to warm up on each side before a competitive match so I wanted to reserve one if possible but I emailed the center and they haven't responded (they also don't answer their phone, there's a recorded message and then it goes straight to voicemail). Do the club teams, for example, sometimes have informal practices then on those courts? (their website says only that they practice on Tue/Wed/Thur evenings) or do they tend to get booked by other students? (or is every weekend different) Thanks

Academic/Career Penn grad student seeking undergrads for class research on banking experiences

Hi everyone!

I’m a student at Penn, and my team is working on a research project for our IPD 5090 exploring how college students choose their banks, manage their finances, and navigate financial services.

We’re hoping to hear from undergrads about their experiences and perspectives. If you’re willing to help, we’d really appreciate you completing a brief screening survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdnElzuoHRu3cNMJQWPGC2bTqKujtrJdqj5xCx3SB3gRuhyVA/viewform

Whether you love your bank, dislike it, or rarely think about it, we’d love to hear from you!

We're hoping to connect with a few students for follow-up interviews as part of our class project.

Thanks so much for helping out a fellow student! We really appreciate your time and perspective.
