A Shire Walking-Party by Miriam Ellis published today!
I hope the wonderful, supportive community here will enjoy hearing the news that my second book, A Shire Walking-Party: Paintings Inspired by Tolkien's Little Folk, was published today by Uppsala Books in both hardcover and paperback and is now listed on Amazon in the US and will be coming soon to other sellers and in many lands. With over 60 paintings, the book invites you on an immersive walk through hobbit homelands, history, and culture in the place J.R.R. Tolkien said he felt most at home. Thank you to all the kind folks here who are so supportive of my work. You can read advance praise of the book from Ted Nasmith, Tom Shippey, Michael D.C. Drout, Alan Sisto, Graham Judd, Tom Hillman, Sara Brown, and many more on my website today or on the Amazon listing here:https://www.amazon.com/Shire-Walking-Party-Paintings-Inspired-Tolkiens/dp/1961361388/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3NGIOYMBQBPZ9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.4GuxuXW-tsoPNKDrEbbaareJQKkrQFjM-84W3aP7_yM.9GwvwF1H2eVuh5FYmgr-WITUXiohRx490OnrRfNsTiU&dib_tag=se&keywords=a+shire+walking+party&qid=1787843124&s=books&sprefix=a+shire+walking+part%2Cstripbooks%2C199&sr=1-1

Introducing Artist Flair: Recognising the Creators in Our Community
Hi r/TolkienArt,
"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future."
This community exists because people love Tolkien's world and the art it inspires. We are lucky that so many of the artists behind that art have chosen to share their work here directly. Today we are pleased to share something we have been working on to better recognise and support the creators among us.
Introducing Artist Flair
From today, verified original artists can apply for Artist Flair. Once approved, your flair appears alongside your username, signalling to the community that you are a genuine, contributing artist.
What Artist Flair unlocks
As a verified artist you will be able to leave a single self-promotion comment on your own OC posts, where you can share links to your portfolio, commissions, shop, or socials. This gives every artist here a meaningful way to connect with the people who love their work.
Why we built it this way
r/TolkienArt has always been a place for art and appreciation, not a marketplace. We wanted to honour that while also recognising that many of our artists are working creators who deserve a space to share what they do beyond this subreddit. The flair system keeps things personal and contextual, tied to real contributions, so the community always knows who they are engaging with.
How to apply
Send a message to the mod team with the subject line 'Artist Flair Application' and include a link to your portfolio or social media showing your work. We will review your application and be in touch.
How to message the mods:
- On desktop scroll down the r/TolkienArt sidebar and click Message the mods under the Moderators section.
- On the app tap the overflow menu (the three dots) in the top right corner of the subreddit page and select Message moderators.
For full details see our wiki: Artist Flair & Self-Promotion
Updates to our Self-Promotion Rules
Alongside the launch of Artist Flair we have updated our self-promotion rules to reflect this new system. Self-promotion is now permitted exclusively through the verified flair system described above. Promotional content in post titles, post bodies, or in the comments of other users' posts remains against the rules.
These changes take effect today. Our full updated rules can be found in the sidebar, and further detail is available in our wiki.
If you have any questions, please reach out via modmail.

Sketch of Aragorn by me
Took a little break from drawing LOTR characters realistically, not very proud of this one though. Feel like I messed up on the eyes and didn’t make the forehead big enough.

New autumn wreath for my Hobbit door
I made this wooden hobbit door and a detachable spring/summer wreath back in March. But as the weather changed, I thought the door deserved to change with the season. So I made this new wreath using preserved autumn oak leaves, wheat, bunny tails and Spanish moss. I really tried to get the theme of trees around Bilbo's door, harvest at the Shire and the hill leading up to it.

October the 24th - at last! Sam leads Frodo through the High Garden at Rivendell to the East Porch where friends await.
Carefully based on Tolkien's own arts and text, this view of Imladris helps us see the site of not just the gardens but the porch where the Council of Elrond will later take place. But for now, what a relief to know the hobbits have finally reached the Last Homely House! If you'd like to know more about the details of this setting, this is one of the most-read articles on my blog: https://www.miriamellis.com/post/the-high-garden-and-architecture-of-tolkien-s-rivendell

General map of Middle Earth colored in 19k(19688x15239)
Hey guys its me again, I wanted to share this last version of the map, quite similar to the general map of Middle Earth found on the First Editions of LoTR.
This map included both the Icebay of Forochel and Harad and Far Harad with Umbar and it's landmarks which you can see again in their full glory and in color.
I have also added Tol Fuin and The Forsaken Inn as suggested.

(Somewhat) Book accurate shelob
Shelob is generally portrayed as a huge spider but she isn't actually described as looking very spider like so I made this (somewhat) accurate sketch of her
"Shelob had an out-thrust head with two great clusters of many-windowed eyes and great horns and a short stalk-like neck. Her head had a beak that dribbled venom. She had a huge body that looked like a bloated bag. Her body was black and blotched with livid marks with a pale and luminous belly. She had bent legs with great knobbed joints that were located high above her back. Her legs had hairs that stuck out like steel spines and had a claw at each of their lower ends."
