What’s on Your Mind, Springfield?

It is that time again for an open thread for anything and everything Springfield.

Got something on your chest? Had a good experience you want to share? Maybe you just want to ask about the best tacos in town or tell us something funny you noticed this week.

This is the place for it. Rants, raves, questions, or just plain small talk. Let’s hear it.

Living Here It has been 2 hours without wifi…

I have read 3 books, taken my dog for a walk, learn to love again, climbed to the summit of Hammond towers, and learned 5 new subjects, food is running low.

All jokes aside the lack of wifi is peaceful and nice. I forgot how much stuff really doesn’t need wifi, hooray for DVDs!

Living Here Brightpocalypse Check In

It has been approximately 5 hours since losing all Wifi.

I first became aware of this impending doom via a notification from my Ring Doorbell app alerting me that it was offline. Initially, I just thought the damned thing was being temperamental so I attempted a hard reboot. Nothing. Surely it's not the my beloved internet service I pay so much for...

I went through all of the troubleshooting steps to attempt to reconnect as I have them memorized by now. Nothing. I eventually found my plight so profound, I began tinkering with the box that is crookedly mounted to and screwed through my vinyl siding with screws longer than a line at 7Brwww. Still, nothing. I screamed. I yawped. I caved.

It was the worst hold music ever. I was no longer patiently waiting. I paced around, pet my kitties, checked the modem lights 52 times until finally, a static voice came on the other line. I couldn't tell if it was an accent or a crappy VoIP connection, but they could not simply understand my misery. I ended the call. I wailed.

I found myself lost in a trance by the single flashing modem lights as I sat, blankly staring and defeated until my focus was broken by my phone's vibration. A service interruption? A larger service issue? I wanna know how much they paid some PR person to vomit such a corporate response. I searched the outage portion of their website. 4AM is oddly specific...this was either planned or some idiot spilled their coffee on the fiber mainframe. Either way, we are all doomed.

Buckle up Springfield, this might be worse than Snowmageddon, The Great Sky Ice Bombing (The Out of State Contractor Invasion '26), or Straight Line Wind-A-Palooza '25 (thanks, mother nature for the unsolicited yard work). I look forward to seeing your posts alerting all of Reddit that brightspeed is back up, even though we all have been frantically checking like madmen.

I don't know what to do with myself. I definitely did NOT sign up for the Springfield Pioneer experience.

Edit: I found a DVD player in the depths of my garage. Does anyone remember how to connect these things? I only have the red cable with it.

Living Here For anyone wondering where Adam from Wedgewood went.

This is not ment to be self-promotion, but I had to perform a quick move to another Barbershop.

I did not have all the contact information nor ample amount of time to get the word out that I would no longer be available at Wedgewood Barbershop— due to the nature of a walk-in only.

I am now an independent barber at Barbershop Deluxe: 1667 E St. Louis St.

My business number is 417-496-3987

Website: yourbarberadam.com

if you have been looking for me, I have been searching for you too! I hope to reconnect and continue to be your barber!

Ask Springfield Car lot recommendations

• Upvotes

I need help with finding the least predatory car lot in Springfield. I recently had a repossession so my credit is crap but I’m in need of a car so I’m planning on going to a lot that finances to see what I can find. I’m ok with spending a few extra thousand on something if I’m able to have it now rather than save for it. I plan on putting 2-3k down and have a co-signer so I’m hoping that makes my chances of being accepted better but I still would like some recommendations so I start at a good point.

Living Here Old Monterey Apartments

I’m living in Old Monterey Apartments. I’ve been having persistent mouse and cockroach issues for months. From what I’ve witnessed their “pest control” only checks behind the fridge and the oven and leaves a glue trap. They claim they’ll set up traps and bait stations outside, but they never do; it’s been months. Also, management said their “pest control” comes out once a week. They suggested that it was the apartments surrounding mine that had the real infestation while mine was being used as a route between the two. They said they couldn’t do anything about the neighboring apartments because there were residents living there at the time but they’ve since moved (or departed from the earth in one case). Anyway, whatever their pest strategy is, it seems it’s not effective at all since the problem only gets worse. The strategy of looking around and distributing a few glue traps is not going to cut it. Anyone else experiencing this problem at Old Monterey? Wondering if other buildings are facing similar issues or if you have gotten appropriate and swift resolution?

RIP. The back of the notice says, “No price increases for a year.“

Republic Services is scummy so I’ll be looking for someone else and I suggest you do so as well if you have Queen City.

Living Here Can anyone recommend a good PCP?

Primary Care Physician, not trying to get wet you degens.

Anyway, I've finally got health insurance consistently after winging it for over a decade. Anyone recommend someone in town? Or who to avoid? The more in Springfield the better. 35 yr old male, relatively healthy.

Living Here Events & Board Game Groups?

Are there any groups in Springfield that host events or play board games? I'm wanting to join a group that does events like murder mystery, trivia, D&D, and other board games. I like variety so I don't want to join groups that are only at one place or are at a game store (like Meta-Games or 4x4 Brewing).

Any good recommendations?

Ask Springfield New to Springfield - Small Business/Freelance meet ups?

Hey guys, I just moved to the area and looking to get involved with the local small business community.

I have a small cloud-based accounting practice and like to help the freelancer/self-employed with their bookkeeping, government compliance and taxes. I’ve been to A Million Cups but it felt a bit more corporate but I could be wrong about that.

Since I’m mostly remote local connections can be hard to come by and wondering if anyone had success or just enjoymore casual meet ups that don’t feel like exchanging sales pitches and business cards.

Also - any looking for a chess club or small stakes poker games for the work life balance part of the city.

Living Here Power is out. Again.

I have never lived in a place with as many electrical outages as we have in this town. My wife and I moved here just over a year ago, and—with absolutely zero exaggeration—we’ve lost power at least once a month since then, which is a huge problem because we’re both remote workers. Seriously, what’s the deal? Who do I need to lobby to get a measure on the ballot that would address our horrible power grid?

Living Here Anyone need IT support ?

I have worked in IT for 6 years with experience in console repair, iPhone repair, desktop building, troubleshooting and repair, laptop repair, and most people who I have helped over the years say they never want anyone to help them with their tech problems again. I am thinking about starting offer IT support on my own time, I just need to know if anyone in this city would actually need my help. If anyone wants to message me for basic troubleshooting questions or anything feel free!

Saw these stickers on light polls while walking down commercial street yesterday. They are a white supremacy group. We managed to pull down several, but there were some that we couldn't get to due to people and/or just being stuck on fairly well and not having a scraper or any tools.

Ask Springfield short-term housing

Hey guys, I am an international medical student (23 M ) coming to Springfield for a month in early 2027 to do an externship at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.

I’m currently looking for affordable, furnished housing for one month stay, preferably within a reasonable commute of the hospital.
I’ve been looking at options like Airbnb and Furnished Finder, but I’d really appreciate
recommendations from locals on the best areas or neighborhoods to stay in near the hospital.

also how reliable is public transportation in the area, especially for commuting to the hospital?

Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
