Unpopular opinion: We’ve turned being healthy into another beauty standard

Ive noticed how almost everything related to wellness eventually circles back to appearance. Drink more water for glowing skin. Fix your gut for a clearer complexion. Get enough sleep to look younger. Manage your stress so you don’t age as quickly.

Even taking care of yourself somehow becomes about looking better.

What if you’re eating well, sleeping enough, and doing everything you’re supposed to do, but you still have acne, dark circles, or uneven skin?
I wonder if we’ve started confusing looking healthy with actually being healthy.

When did wellness stop being about feeling good and start becoming another way to judge how we look? LOL

PSA to my fellow psoriasis people: please don’t underestimate moisturizing. It’s honestly been a lifesaver for my skin. 😭

• Upvotes

One thing I’ve learned from dealing with psoriasis is that I really can’t afford to neglect moisturizing. Whenever my skin gets extra dry, it just makes everything feel so much more uncomfortable. Now, I try to moisturize after every shower, and I keep a moisturizer nearby so I can reapply whenever my skin starts feeling dry again.

I’ve also become more mindful of what I put on my skin. I usually lean toward fragrance-free moisturizers with ingredients like glycerin and ceramides. I try not to experiment with too many new products at once because the last thing I want is to make my skin more irritated.

Honestly, I’m still figuring things out, and my skin definitely has its own moods. 😭 But keeping it moisturized is one habit I really don’t want to give up. It’s such a simple thing, but it makes me feel like I’m taking better care of myself.

To my fellow psoriasis warriors, do you have a moisturizer you swear by? Or any little things you do in your daily routine that help when your skin gets really dry? I’d love to hear what’s worked for you?

Haru Haru Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Sunscreen dupe?

I fell in love with Haru Haru's Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Sunscreen and now amazon no longer sells it. It's the first sunscreen I found that didn't leave me looking shiny/greasy all day. It had such a beautiful matte finish. I know i can buy it on yesstyle but I ran out and need something now. Does anyone have any recommendations for a dupe? A sunscreen that has a matte finish and won't break me out? I have combination skin. Thank you!

• Upvotes

(not sure if this is 100% the right subreddit so sorry if not) I have a cyst on my chin that comes and goes (maybe twice a year i have it for a bit) , but right now its the biggest it's ever been. I just find it embarassing especially as a friend of mine pointed it out and said i look crazy. Is there a way to quickly reduce it? I have a halloween party friday so mainly just want it gone for then. Thanks in advance!

Is double cleansing must?

My skin type is normal when it is maintained. But when the barrier is compromised my skin becomes mild dry. I ise deconstruct gel sunscreen. I used kose softymo speedy cleansing oil that gave me breakout. Then i switched to beplain mung bean cleansing oil. But i started noticing bumps, and 2/3 pimples in my cheeks. Then someone said that though deconstruct gel sunscreen is water resistant, the resistance becomes weaker as the time passes. So you can skip double cleansing and just a water based cleanser can remove the sunscreen properly. And deconstruct is a water based sunscreen, so it will not require double cleansing . Then i stopped double cleansing for 10-12 days. And my pimples vanished. But i've some bumps in my cheeks beside my nose. I use haruharu wonder black rice cleansing gel. But haruharu is very gentle and mild. It has secondary surfactants. So i'm not sure if the cleanser is cleaning properly or not. In this case i want to switch to the skin1004 centella foam ampule. Will it be enough to remove sunscreen? I do not go out, do not apply makeup and do not reapply sunscreen.

Is this the right routine?

Hello guys, I’m trying to really really lock in with skin care, this is my line up, I use the pink scrub and or the tea tree pads 2-3x a week, I use the vitamin c serum and sunscreen daily, and I try to shave when I’m not using any of these products, I’m around 2 week consistent with this routine and I need some feedback if I need to change anything, such as products, how many times I should do this, blah blah blah. My main thing is I get these razer ingrown hairs and I don’t know how to stop it. I use an electric shaver and my hair grows back so fast, if I don’t shave for like 5 days, I get a full stubble so I have to shave atleast every 3 days, should I shave more ? I’m just lost on it and looking for some feedback if I am going on the right direction (oh yeah don’t mind my goofy ahh face I thought it was funny to include) thank you
Edit: I also workout 4 days a week and get 10k steps daily so I’m lretty active

Retinoid routine issues (HELP)

Attached is my skin before and after and my 1 month-old skin routine.

DERM said :
- combo/oily/high sebum skin with closed comedomes
- absolutely no oils on skin
-no moisturizer at night
- differin 2-3x and Aklief 1-2x a week and work it up

First, I didn’t use differin correctly, I sued with oil cleansers which I shouldn’t touch and used it on wet skin out of laziness. Got lazy on SPF too (not anymore!)

Then, after adding Aklief, I gone through extreme flakiness, redness, tiny pimples appearing EVERYWHERE and made the mistake of doing AHA BHA acid mask once… Messed up my skin barrier so bad I stopped everything for 2-3 weeks and only moisturized, cicaplast seems to have helped.

Only now realized that I shouldn’t be doing SA cleanser next to retinoids so I bought LRPY Toleriane cleanser. My skin does feel tight and seems to be breaking out in tiny pimples lately. I want to push through it without damaging my skin.

  1. How do I start using differin and Aklief again? Interchangeably along with SA cleanser?
  2. What kind of routine do I build with all this?
  3. When do I start increasing the dosage? And by how much??

Has anyone experienced finger peeling/dermatitis triggered by a phone case?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share an issue I’ve been having for the past 3 to 4 months and see if anyone else has experienced something similar.

A few months ago, I started getting dry, peeling, and cracked skin on my fingers—specifically on my thumb, index, and middle fingers. The side of my index finger was the most heavily impacted, with skin peeling off in layers and occasional raw cracks. I tried all sorts of heavy moisturizers, but every time I stopped applying them, the peeling came back. Interestingly, it didn’t itch at all.

Recently, I realized that the fingers and exact contact points most affected were the ones supporting my phone and resting against the edges of my phone case.

Since I stopped using the phone case, my skin has actually started improving and getting better!

I’m trying to figure out what exactly caused this:

Allergic/Irritant Contact Dermatitis: A reaction to the specific material of the case (silicone/TPU/plastic/metal dye).

Frictional Dermatitis / Mechanical Stress: Constant friction, pressure, and heat/sweat trapped between the fingers and the rigid case edges over several hours a day.

Has anyone else noticed their skin reacting to certain phone cases or materials? If so, what material was your case made of, and did switching cases or removing it completely solve the issue for you?

Would love to hear your experiences or thoughts on what might be happening here!

Skincare tracking

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey guys! My names Patrick and I’ve had skin problems for years (I’ve linked a picture below) and i couldn’t find anything that worked for me so I started designing an app to track my skin, products, and progress. I’m currently 16 and have almost achieved clear skin. I’m intending to become a dermatologist whenever I get out of school. Anyway, I’m not asking you guys to use it, it’s not even officially launched yet. But, if even just a couple of you would give me some features you would like to see in the site, that would be amazing! If you would like to look at and/or use the site that would also be greatly appreciated. You can see it at SkinLog.app on any web browser. I’m aiming to add it to the app and Google play store here within the next couple of months. I’m done now, but thank you guys for any support! I’m not trying to advertise, I just want feedback, so please don’t take down my post🙏

HELP ME MY SKIN SUCKS

Okay, so I’ve been on my skincare journey for YEARS! I’m 20 and my skin isn’t horrible but it’s definitely not great. I’m also starting to get deep wrinkles on my forehead and I don’t know how to fix it. I'm pretty positive I struggle from hormonal acne. Currently my routine consists of vanicream foam cleanser morning and night (sometimes I double cleanse with an oil cleanser if I do my makeup but I really don’t wear makeup too often anymore). At night I apply my serums and I’ve tried probably over 100 different things. Right now I really just use hyaluronic acid from skin 1004, beauty of joseon rice flow serum, vitamin c serum from vanicream, and occasionally I’ll apply an overnight zinc oxide overnight mask to help my skin barrier and lock in moisture. I also apply sunscreen every single day and have been consistently for about a year now. I drink water everyday(probably not enough) but I eat pretty healthy, I barely ever eat sugar, I workout 5x a week so I really don’t think it’s my lifestyle thats affecting me. I struggle with EXTREMELY sensitive, combination skin. It’s textured in almost every area of my face, but my main insecurity is really just my acne and large pores. If anyone has ANY suggestions please help! I am willing to try literally anything. And before anyone tells me to go to a dermatologist I’ve tried but my insurance won’t cover one and I’m broke.

What treatments would you recommend for improving skin texture, pores and making my face look more plump/glowy?

Over the last year or so I’ve noticed quite a few changes in my skin and face that I’m not particularly happy with. I don’t think I’m ugly or anything, I just enjoy looking after myself and trying to look my best!
My pores seem to have gotten larger, my skin looks more uneven and overall I just feel like my face has aged a bit. I’ve also started noticing little things like fine lines on my forehead (I’m actually getting a bit of Botox next week).
About a month and a half ago I also started incorporating salicylic acid and glycolic acid into my skincare routine, but honestly I haven’t really noticed much of a difference so far.
I’ve been looking into treatments like Sculptra and microneedling, but I’m honestly not sure what would be best. One area I’d particularly like to improve is my cheeks/under-eye area. I’m not really bothered about dark circles, it’s more that the area underneath my eyes and around my upper cheeks looks a bit flat, if that makes sense? I’d love a bit more fullness there.
My main goal is to have that really healthy, glowy, almost glass-skin look, with smoother texture and a slightly plumper, more youthful-looking face.
I’m open to pretty much any suggestions when it comes to non-surgical aesthetics, whether that’s fillers, Botox, lasers, skin boosters, microneedling or anything else! Ideally treatments under $500, although I’m happy to hear about different options.
I’m not looking for anything dramatic or to completely change my features, so please don’t tell me I need a rhinoplasty or a whole new face 😂 Just subtle improvements that make me look a bit fresher.
Also, I’m not underweight and I’m happy with my current weight, so gaining weight isn’t really something I want to do to add fullness to my face.
Would really appreciate any recommendations, especially if you’ve had similar concerns and found something that actually made a difference.
I added photos in outside light and in my bathroom light.
Thank you!! 💗

Need a bit Help regarding Hyperpigmentation

19M with a face darker than the rest of the body.
So, before going out, I use SPF 50 Sunscreen after applying moisturiser.
For the past two weeks at night, I have been using Tretinoin 0.025% (an actual pea-sized amount) daily after cleaning my face with a normal face wash. 2 days a week, I also use a Detan face scrub with Turmeric and Walnut.
The problem is the acne issue, which was around 99% non-existent before, has finally entered my life. I am thinking bout reducing the tretinoin usage to 3 days a week rather than using it every day.
What else should I include to fix my hyperpigmentation? Like vitamin C or hyaluronic acid and stuff? Also, my sleep schedule went up from 6 hrs to 7 hrs. (More than 7 is pretty hard for me to achieve, due to work reasons).

Help with my extra enlarged pores ahhh💔

Am: Wash face with lukewarm water, ponds super lightweight gel (combination skin) and top it with deconstruct oats and ceramide sunscreen.
Pm: minimalist aquabooster cleanser( very gentle and lightweight), minimalist hyaloronic acid serum with the same mosturizer.
2-3x week: at night I use salicylic acid/ glycolic acid (not together ofc)

So I think my skin have closed comedones and enlarged pores near nose. But the thing is I’ve had these for years now. And no matter what I do they just never neverrrrrrrr fade away. I tried niacinamide, glycolic acid, all aha bha and then regular simple routine, WHAT NOT … I’m not even using fatty alcohol based products and use a simple gentle cleanser and wear sunscreen daily. They just never ever go away…. So I routine for rn is very simple cause I didn’t wanna complicate it. Idek whatsjit im d doing wromg. I try not to over exfoliate by glycolic and salicylic acid so I keep them 2-3 times a week even before when I used to use niacinamide or them all they never went away. HELPPP

Has anyone applied hydroquinone all over their face?

My Derma said I can but idk 😭 I've heard it can lead to patchiness, especially if you're dark. Is there a specific way I should do it? My current routine is:

cleanser - moisturizer - hydroquinone - moisturizer.
