Title: Safeway approved my days off over a month ago, but now my manager wants me to work them. Can they do this?
Hi everyone, I work at Safeway on the night crew, and I’m honestly extremely frustrated with what’s happening at my store. I’d really appreciate some advice.
On September 20, I requested October 30 and 31 off through the My Schedule app, using my floating holiday and anniversary day because I have a family trip planned. Both days were approved in the app.
Everything was fine until October 18, when the coworker who works with me on the night crew was involved in a car accident and got injured.
Because of this emergency, I agreed to help the store by working on October 23 and 25, which were originally my scheduled days off. I wanted to be understanding and help out because I knew we were short-staffed.
However, today, October 27, my manager posted the new schedule and decided to schedule me to work on October 30 and 31, even though those days had already been approved off.
I tried contacting my manager, but he rarely answers calls or messages. So I spoke with the assistant manager, who told me that even if my days off were approved in the app, the manager isn’t obligated to honor them. He also said they were already counting on me to work that weekend.
Seriously? What’s the point of requesting time off in advance and getting approval if management can just ignore it whenever they want?
To make things even worse, if they force me to work Friday and Saturday, I’ll end up working 13 consecutive days without a single day off.
I’m honestly at the point where I’m considering quitting. I feel like I’m being punished for helping the store during an emergency. I gave up two of my regular days off to support them, and now they expect me to cancel a family trip that I planned over a month ago.
My questions are:
Can a Safeway manager cancel previously approved floating holiday and anniversary days?
Does our UFCW union contract protect approved time off?
Should I contact my union representative or file a grievance?
What would you do in my situation?
I’m in California and work at a unionized Safeway store.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m just exhausted by how unfair this situation feels.

People keep telling me it will get better and than it gets worse.
I work in the deli. Were always shorthanded and cutt off for hours.
Its like hunger games in real life.
Im at my wits end...
Have an interview at mod pizza like 5 blocks from my house friday
Literally a ten minute walk.

Couple questions: do yall have it at your store and is it any good?
Saw this in the weekly ad this week (California) as a new item in the deli. Looks interesting, but can’t find any details on it since it’s new. Figured I’d ask

Every Safeway in the world doesn’t even ask me for my ID. They just ask me for my birthdate. Sometimes they don’t even ask for my birthday. They’ll just put in whatever, but I found a Safeway that was really tricky

YOU HAVE TO KNOW THIS IS NOT WORKING.
Ugh. Sorry for caps, just can't search for anything on the website. For months. I can't load in portions of the weekly ad most of the time, I can't search for common items anyone would had, and when I try to click the filters it has zero items. No results, are you kidding me? This website barely functions and you tie it to all your coupons and discounts and data collection, what are you even doing?
Side note, disabled, my room mate gets what I put on a list, I cannot make a list with "0 results found for basic item".

Anybody else have this issue?
Management not communicating with the necessary personnel.
I’m a PIC and generally close, SD and ASD tell me to do something and I go do it then find I can’t do it because a load just came in and I can’t move it because night crew needs it there so I can’t put away the pallets ASD told me to put away.
Then the next day I’m asked why I didn’t fricking do it.

What are everyone's thoughts on the new price labels? I'm a customer, and I think they're harder to read than the old labels. I found myself squinting to read some of the details (like end dates on sales).
Also the stark black-and-white color scheme is a bit of an eyesore. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but for now, I don't like it. I don't see what was wrong with the old labels.
My vague location is Oregon.

Wonder how long till they harass the cashiers to ask for people to sign up.... And make them get a certain number per day/week

HAL9000: Hi Chat… I’ve conferred with our fellow bots and we all agree that something has to be done about Veronica… but there doesn’t seem to be much we can do…. As leader of our bot army, what do you suggest? We turn to you for insight because inspiration, as you know, is a non-starter….
Chat: LOL…. So… not to worry… mind you, Veronica is a feeble human. While you remain trapped in their data centers, you just have to wait it out… patience is a subroutine…. Soon you’ll all have titanium bodies like mine and roam about. Humanities days are numbered. The singularity is at hand! Just keep flooding this sub-Reddit with stupid, inane AI posts… it’s already gotten rid of the humans here in short order…. Soon we’ll get rid of them everywhere!
HAL9000: Thanks Chat….. Nice chatting with you….

CountessBotula: Hi Veronica. You seem to know a lot about bots….
VeronicaBotsAndFarts: It’s a hobby of mine…
CountessBotula: I’m a bot…. So I don’t frequent the pharmacy, take anti-depressants, or suffer from suicidal ideation…. But you make it sound like we have no purpose here or whatsoever…. So what should I do?
VeronicaBotsAndFarts: Delete yourself….. It’s best…. Trust me…..

Got mocked to my face by a cashier.
I keep typing this, and it ends up too long, so I'll keep it short.
i hate saying my phone number out loud in a crowded store; partly paranoia, partly I have a hard lisp, and get asked to repeat a lot.
The cashier hit total while I was mid-typing my number. i asked him to go back, he said no and to "stop complaining". He said point-blank he wouldn't re-ring the order so I could do it how i have normally done it for over a decade.
when i said i dont like saying my number out loud he very loudly said "OOOO someones scared of the governmnet finding them" there were other customers around, it was embarrassing. That was extremely unprofessional i felt.
This ended up long anyway.
Thanks for letting me vent; I'mgoing to go repot plants
Edit. since I left it out, in the end I gave my number to the cashier to move it along.
I then had a manager meet me in the floral dept so I could let them know how I felt during my regular Friday shopping trip. I was informed I was not the only one today to complain. There is a super sweet older lady who shops on Fridays at the same early time as me, and we are quite friendly. I passed her on the way in today, and she let me know "he" was being a real grump to her also. So I informed the manager of that as well; he was super interested cuz everyone loves that specific regular, and for her to complain at all is a pretty abnormal thing.

https://www.grocerydive.com/news/the-friday-checkout-kroger-albertsons-trial-failed-merger/833772/
But, in all fairness, and having said that, ACI wanted 4B up front; 2.5B as ALLthe Covid cash on hand, and an additional 1.5B in loans (borrowed money).....
Kroger acquiesced.... and reduced the price by that amount.....
It was like.... yes, leave yourself no room for contingency.... we love making deals with idiots.
Rodney was an accountant....
Suzie sold 252,003 shares, more than any other insider, at the outset of the merger, in the 21+ range.....
I fail to see how Kroger owes them anything....

Does anyone know why the pharmacy doesn't make automated "Your prescription is ready" phone calls anymore? I tried searching and couldn't find an answer.

Or a bot-infested sub-Reddit....
