Miscellaneous This subreddit automatically deleting comments from Users who don’t have flairs is fucking stupid.
Honestly what’s the point of coming to a forum and see every second comment deleted for stupid shit. Can we fucking change this

Miscellaneous The introduction of a new trial for a potential addition of Rule 11: No unflaired accounts allowed to comment until a flair is selected
Hi all,
In an attempt to get ahead of the massive surge in sub participants that will join in the latter half of the 2026 season, with the conclusion of the Nations Championship, and in the 2027 season for obvious reasons, we in the Mod team have decided to trial something new: automod will block anyone from posting a comment in a thread until they have selected a flair for themselves.
We do this in the hope that it will curb the amount of bad-faith comments and trolls that lower the quality of discussions around Rugby in our community. We desire to keep our side of the Rugby social ecosystem a fun, friendly and non-toxic space where all are welcome to discuss the Rugby first and foremost.
If it ends up being too restrictive or counterproductive to fostering of that aforementioned community ethos of good Rugby discussion, we'll not institute Rule 11 and roll back the adjustments to AutoMod.
Thanks All,
The r/RugbyUnion Mod team
Edit: As pointed out in the thread, to clarify with more information, currently the AutoMod will hit an unflaired individual with the following message telling them to flair up:
Your {{kind}} has been removed because r/rugbyunion requires users to have a user flair before participating. Please select a user flair and try again. On desktop, use "Community options" or the edit icon beside "User flair" in the sidebar. In the Reddit app, open the subreddit, tap the three dots at the top right and choose "Change user flair". If you are unable to select a flair, please contact the moderators.

Miscellaneous What game rates the top for you?
You are not allowed to pick a game from you Mr own team. I have rewatched the 2019 RWC final and 2023 quarterfinal (SA vs France) almost every weekend since it was played. But I need something neutral! So what international game do you rate the best ever - that is available on YouTube (or somewhere free)? And no, games played by Japan in 2015 does not count. Never happene.

Miscellaneous The end of the trial period for the proposed Rule 11. Now we want you, as the community, to let us know what your true thoughts are on it as a potential rule, its effects and what we should do next regarding it:
A quick reminder Rule 11 states: No unflaired accounts are allowed to comment in the sub until a flair is selected. It has been disabled for now.
We understand that some people were in support of the intended purpose of the proposed Rule 11 and that others were less so. Some advocated for things like increasing the karma filters we already have in effect on threads or enacting stronger general crowd control on the sub. Others believing that we should just be more active as a mod team instead to clean up trolls and such, not resorting to the usage of Automod as heavily. Some said that when the Nov tests happen, and the RWC 27 comes around, we shouldn't be putting up barriers to more people joining the community and learning about our sport; that we shouldn’t be emulating the Rugby Top Brass in our actions as a mod team. That we should instead do things like an auto-flair assignment to any newbie that identifies them and leave it at that, with the flairs for the general community to sort out from then onwards.
Every single one of those points are all valid and fair critique, and we do thank you for giving it because ultimately, we just want to try and make the sub as good and fun a place as possible for everyone who wants to engage in Rugby.
Thank you all for your patience with this trial; we wanted to do it on a weekend with a single semi-high-profile men's test match and a few club games to see the rule's impact on the threads overall and let you guys get a taste of what it could potentially be like moving forward when making your opinion known on the poll.
Thanks everyone,
The r/rugbyunion Modteam

Miscellaneous Springbok Record Against the All Blacks Spoiler
(Very vague title to avoid spoilers.)
As of tonight, South Africa has the record for the most wins against the All Blacks, overtaking Australia's tally of 45 victories. I am not sure for how long Australia held that record as it would be fairly complicated to go back and check, but it was certainly for quite some time. Over the last five years, however, South Africa has beaten New Zealand 10 times while Australia has had an extended dry spell. There's a good chance that Australia will overtake South Africa again some day given how close it is.

France v. Canada should also be very interesting.

Miscellaneous How blessed to have Top14 providing employment opportunities
Players of 20 different nationalities are competing in France this season. This variety element makes union feel more global and closer to the scale of soccer. Although not many, it's great to see players from emerging nations getting exposure to top tier club footy.

Miscellaneous ear pain during scrum
i just recently joined my college’s women’s club rugby team and they’ve had me playing lock so far, and we’ve been working up to scrums over the past couple of weeks but last night at practice was the first time we really simulated a full scrum and was the first time i was in position as a lock. once i had my head in position and the front row fully got into place i noticed that the pressure on my ears made them hurt A LOT. i spoke to a veteran teammate and she said to get a scrum cap which i plan on doing but is it normal for this to happen?
i will note that i have multiple piercings on each ear but the pain wasn’t where they are, it was more so on the like wall on cartilage just outside of the conch

Miscellaneous Tom Christie given captaincy of Newcastle Red Bulls
Love this for him, been fantastic since he arrived last November. Captained us a couple times already so I'd have thought this was coming.
I'm assuming this also means McGuigan is set to be dropped, which will I think make this his final season. Would be nice for him to retire here after moving about so much.

Miscellaneous Just bought three tickets for Scotland v Ireland in the W6N next year. £35 in total including booking fees.
Upper stand, right on the 22. Unreal value - just £3.50 for under 12's. Even with flights and accommodation it's cheaper than a M6N game. My son's ticket is cheaper than a normal match programme!

Miscellaneous Club team line-up with the most international rugby IQ.
This is the Randwick starting XV for their 1988 match against the All Blacks. The pack features three players (Cheika, McKenzie and Jones) who went on to coach the Wallabies. Cheika also added Argentina to his CV, while Jones added Japan and England.
Has any other club ever fielded three future international head coaches at the same time?
