šŸŽ„ The Predator Still the worst by far

Post image

I rewatch the entire franchise at least once a year (including the Alien franchise)... The Predator (2018) is the only one I skip almost every time. There is no redeeming factor to that shitshow. I can find positives in every movie, comics or books without hesitation... Not this one.... Just awful and dumb (not in a good way)

I think that removing many of the bad human characters, changing the concept of many Predators genetically upgrading themselves to just the one we see in the film, and making the Fugitive the main character could have improved it significantly. A regular predator having to take on the Upgraded Predator could have been cool, like a spiritual remake of Dutch’s fight against the Jungle Hunter.

Also just throw out that autism stuff and the weird predator dogs. Should’ve just brought back the hounds from 2010.

This movie showed that Shane Black doesn’t understand the Predator really well. Also i hate how they portrayed autism in this movie it just feels wrong.

šŸŽ„ The Predator The autism trait from The Predator (2018) is without a doubt one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in a motion picture. Very offensive and a top tier dumbass Predator concept... and considering how nonsensical the Predator films can be, that's saying a lot.

Deadass question because yaujta faces are typically bigger than human faces right? So how the fuck can this little ass human kid face fit the mask so well? let alone the weight of that mask, it probably weighs like 20 lbs so i dont know how hes not tripping over and struggling to get up.

šŸŽ„ The Predator The Predator is Abysmal

I’m on my yearly rewatch of all the alien and predator movies. Usually, I enjoy every movie. (Yes, even AVP: R, which despite its flaws has some enjoyment for me) Pretty much all a movie needs is a xeno or yautja and I’m sold. That said, I usually skip the worst movie in any of the franchises… The Predator.

This time I watched it though—it’d been a few years since I last saw it. And I just… WOW does this movie suck. I legitimately don’t understand how either. With the budget and potential. The movie is a literal train wreck, from start to finish. I’ve seen plenty of bad movies that never stood a chance (unknown director, low budget, etc.), but this might be the worst big budget blockbuster that I’ve ever seen. And THAT is saying something.

šŸŽ„ The Predator I have a weird obsession with THE predator (2018)

So let's start with the fact that WE all know that this movie is kinda bad. Good, also spoilers.
I was a predator fan since I was little, watching movies, playing games etc. I kinda missed PredatorS in theatres so when I found out that a new predator movie came out in 2018, I was stoked. I watched every trailer, tv spot and any other bits of news I could find (Yet somehow missed the leaked script). Back then I found upgrade predator to be cool, you know? something new to a franchise and I wasn't really pissed at the predator dogs being included. I was really hyped to see fugitive predator because (even to this day) his design is SICK. But when the movie came out first I was disappointed to say the least. Fugitive was killed off, story was messy and the EMISSARIES were missing! Basically I think 34% are deserved for this movie but for the rest of my life, this movie possessed me. I just couldn't forget about it, my mind always thought about it. I found myself re-watching the trailers once a year and not being as harsh on it for some reason. I WANTED the fugitive NECA figure and to own at least something to do with this movie. Recently though (like few months ago) I dug deeper and found out about the old script for this movie. I read through and dang it was kinda better? I actually enjoyed reading the 3rd act, I thought it was more entertaining with the whole predator-hybrid stuff and Fugitive's motives made more sense too (than whatever predator killer was lol). It honestly to this day baffles me how they dared to use footage from the old 3rd act in tv spots and trailers MONTH before the movie. I tried researching, desperate for at least some form of finished old 3rd act but oh well, guess we're never getting it. That whole revelation actually made me obsessed with this movie, I want to own every piece of media for this movie that I can starting with figures ending with an artbook. Is it healthy? No. Is the movie worth it? HELL no but for some reason I have this special place in my heart for this trainwreck that I can't let go of. What do you think about this movie? Maybe i'm not the only one and thanks for reading through. Also to all powerscalers, not saying that Upgrade/assassin will win most of the fights but ya'll gotta remember about his armor, it deadass broke off Fugitive's blades on one hit. Also I like Boyd Holbrook in this movie. He is kinda cool.

šŸŽ„ The Predator 4 things that would help but not fix the predator

Post image

Take out the autism storyline that autism is the peak of human evolution.

Take out all kids from this movie, kids ruin movies like these and serve no purpose, look at predator, predator 2, predators, prey no kids.

Take out the stupid pred dog things or change them to the ones from predators.

Make the upgrade predator just a giant powerful yauja

šŸŽ„ The Predator Do you think that the predator (2018) would be more enjoyable if they removed 3 things?

Post image
146 Upvotes

1 the predator dogs.

They look so stupid and don't serve any purpose in the movie.

2 the kid with autism that can instantly learn alien technology in a unknown language and the fact that the yautja think that autistic humans are the way forward in human evolution and they would gain more knowledge and experience to become better hunters which is an idea I couldn't stand.

The Predator killer armor suit.

You would think that this idea was though up by a kid in nursery (kindergarten) who just saw iron man for the first time and Shane black overheard the idea.

šŸŽ„ The Predator is this a timeline inconsistency or am i missing something?

Post image

First time posting here:

so i’m watching both the Alien and Predator franchise in order altogether, and i’ve reached The Predator (2018) and at some point before this scene in the picture they said they have encountered a predator back in 1987 (that makes perfect sense) and in 1997 (i had to search again because i’d forgotten that it was released in 1990, but it was set 10 years later from the first one) so..
My question is: is this picture a minor encounter they had because as shown Peter Keyes in Predator 2 had been monitoring the predator for quite a while before reaching the timeline of the second movie or is this an inconsistency with the timeline?

Mind you i paused the movie and made this post, maybe i should’ve finished the movie first.
Thank you all!!

šŸŽ„ The Predator So i watched The predator (2018) [Review]

so this movie is a weird one in my binge of these movies as tbh watching it after alien resurrection was kinda a blessing in disguise as both films are in a similar boat to each otherĀ

as both movies tones were way different then the original films (one is more comedy based while the other one is way moreĀ cartoony)

both had extremely bonkers ideas baked into them (resurrection had the revived ripley xeno hybrid and the newborn while this movie had the predators try to augment themselves with other species DNA including autism for someĀ reason)

both are not exactly viewed in the bestĀ light

I will say this unlike my review on resurrection that had some neat ideas and some cool moments despite its more cartoony toneĀ

I DID NOT LIKE THIS FILM AS MUCH AS THAT ONEĀ

first off the whole autism super-genius thing with Rory McKenna as someone with autism while he had some accurate stuff i feel like if i was put in a similar situation as his i don't think i'd done half the shit he's done like figure out a alien language or even manage to activate the machine in generalĀ

to be honest i'd probably die most likely (though who tf knows if the upgrade predator would allow that toĀ happen)

i also am unsure why this movie is almost entirely comedy like sure humor is good to lighten the tone but its used so frequently that it kinda ruins the fact this series started out as a sci fi action HORROR movie and it was a horror film first and foremost like predator 1 had a bunch of characters you'd see in a action film deal with something unknown and terrifyingĀ

While the 2nd movie had a more crime fiction angle (had to look that up) with it being Mike Harrigan investigating crime scenes as well as dealing with gang leaders with the sci fi horror element slowly bleeding in thanks to the city hunter himself andĀ OWLF

and you get the idea the comedy kinda killed any horror it possibly could of had (Though i did like some of the jokes in it like the elevator and the predator thumbs upĀ scenes)

i will say this i also really liked the crew that was around Quinn (aka the The Loonies) despite how overtly comedic they were i liked their characters a lot and they were fun to see bounce off each otherĀ

now the predators themselves
i have 0 clue how to feel about the genesplicing idea on one hand it could lead to some cool designs on the other hand it feels like something the yautja would deep criminal enough to call you a bad blood (it radiates that vibe for me) though if they didnt tried to grab autism to add to themselves maybe i'd be fine with the idea (as there have been predators with cybernetic augmentsĀ before)

i LOATHE the predator dog design (it looks like a weird yautja man and not just a alien species on their planet) like the hell-hounds in predators fit yautja's as their pets/hunting dogs as they are just alien enough and distinct from their owners that it makes it less weird lookingĀ

the upgrade predator being entirely CGI felt so off especially next to the fugitive predator like it caught me off guard and made me think "ohĀ no..."

i liked the predator killer armor (i can see yautja using it as "THE BIG GUNS" in case the thing they're hunting is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS or maybe used by enforcers to deal with really tricky badĀ bloods)

and i also liked the funeral scene at the end where the father is like "no one is gonna remember this site but only us" like that is actually a cool little send off toĀ them

so yeah may have some cool elements its just not it it's the lowest in my AVP binge watch by far (the fact i had to take several breaks from it compared to resurrection shows this film was not good enough to keep myĀ attention)

next up in my AVP binge im gonna board the USCSSĀ Prometheus
(2.5 stars i gave it on letterboxd)

šŸŽ„ The Predator How would you deal with "The Predator" (2018) in the canon?

The above meme (using one of the final scenes of Transformers Animated) is something I came up with during a conversation with a discord buddy regarding what the series could do with the story of 2018's The Predator.

My buddy argued that they should just ignore it, and leave it to be forgotten rather than waste any more time on it... and that's fair, ignoring it or declaring it non-canon is the easiest and quickest way to get rid of it.

I however, much like in the meme, think that's not entirely fair and simply too easy. It might be (scratch that, is) the worst Predator movie but talented people still worked on it (e.g. the Fugitive Predator stuff and the posters) and it'd be a disservice to those few good things to outright ignore it in its entirety I feel.

I argued that you could come up with a plot involving something akin to a clean-up crew, and showing how Yautja deal with some of their tech that gets left behind, and maybe have one of these Yautja quickly raid the army base we see at the end and effortlessly defeat the Predator Killer armour, then destroying the rest of the evidence (and perhaps offhandedly mention how the bad bloods we see in that movie are all just a bunch of crazy guys no other clan or even other bad bloods trust or associate with).

To me something like that could feel like a way of at least acknowledging its failure while building something new from its ashes, as opposed to simply ignoring it (which would be, as the clip above puts it, the undeserved easy way out).

But what would you do with it in the canon? Would you come up with an in-universe way of erasing its failure, or simply ignore it and move on with another entry in the series?

They were the only parts of me he film that kept me entertained enough to finish it even tho they ain’t perfect. Sure fugitive was kinda ā€œweakā€ ? But I genuinely like the scene where he was escape and kills everyone in the laboratory. Assassin had a lot of sadly wasted potential. Assassin from a clan of bad blood that modify themselves with dna of different species to make themself stronger could be genuinely interesting uf done right. And having member of that clan disagree with the rest of them and travel to earth to warn them could be also done well I think. Its a shame they were in such a mess of a movie.

šŸŽ„ The Predator Do people just try to forget The Predator (2018) exists?

I just watched it for the first time and it is hot garbage. Such a disservice to the franchise and I feel like it should not be accepted as canon.

But I’m just a casual observer - how do the real fans/followers of the franchise feel?
