I just started my first shrimp tank. Only kept neon tetras in a planted tank for 3 years so far, so I’m a noob to a planted shrimp tank. Went to Petco & they sold me some cherry shrimp. All the rest were orange but this one looks different than the rest & im scared it could kill the actual cherry shrimp & snails. Anyone know what this guy is? I’m hoping if is the ghost fish I can just move it to my neon tetra tank. Praying it’s not a whisker & send me luck catching him if I have to. Thanks for any help/advice!

How often and how do you do it? Especially for those with heavily planted tanks where it’s harder to see where mulm is collecting. I’m converting my 40g breeder to a moderate to heavily planted rainbowfish community and am wondering if vacuuming often could cause more problems than it solves. I’m used to big fancy goldfish which required constant cleanup with a large siphon. I did 30-50% weekly water changes and eventually kept my scape limited to mostly epiphytes so I could easily move rocks and driftwood to clean around them. If I didn’t I would see nitrates around 30-40ppm and diatoms in no time. I realize this strategy could be detrimental to my new tank. Fwiw, my tap water has 10ppm nitrate and 1ppm phosphate which added to the struggle but I’m hoping more plants means that will be free fertilizer. Photo of my old goldfish tank (before I changed up the plants) for tax purposes.

I apologize if this has been covered already, I know the Fluval Plant 3.0 and 4.0 have been covered extensively in this subreddit for being not worth the money, but the Planted Pro 4.0 pricing seems to be insanely out of touch with price to value. The prices range from $349 for a 18” to $599 for their largest 48” light.
That’s more than Twin Sea S Line V3.0, and comparable Netlea, and WeekAqua lights that have better light spectrum.
What are they smoking? Am I missing something?

First time catching this behavior! I almost thought he was dead since he was the original hitchhiker. He's very alive, I checked him and has since parasnailed down or crawled off.

I’ve been keeping planted tanks for 17 years and never have I ran into an algae strain as stubborn as this it’s like a plague in anyway tank it gets into super low nutrients ignored total blackouts for multiple days unbothered pulling it out by hand it’ll rip all the plants and decorations out with it I accidentally got it into my black piranha tank wich has no light on it and it’s still taken over. Nothing eats it ether my siamese algae eaters proven to eat other hair algae like this are slowly wasting away instead of eating it i posted about this a few months ago and got very little help please help me i don’t know what else to do except tear down all my tanks including my favorite most well established ones that have been running 7+ years

I want to turn this tank into a Walstad, I am just now getting it started (clearly). My only problem is the plan i have for it is not the easily accessible.. it already has its dirt, rock, and sand layer, now i just need to heavily plant it.
I want a bunch of Monte Carlo for a reasonable price. Most every where I see online is them small plastic containers for like $10 plus the shipping.. is that the only way you can get it? For how much I am assuming I will need it won’t be worth it.. is it a quick grower?
**Any other plant recommendations for this tank?** She is still being built up, so we really are starting from scratch here..
I don’t have much of a plan for this tank which is just making it sit in my room.. it needs plants but I don’t know how to plant it. I have some Anubis for the driftwood, but thats as far as my vision goes.. I’m kinda at an impasse with this tank, I can only see it for what it is currently not what it could be.. I am so bored of looking at this plain tank. Idk any thoughts?

Hi,
My tank is 58x30x40cm
My filter is the aqua flow 200 (I am upgrading to a small canister filter in a few months)
My plants are limnophila sessiflora, pearl weed, java fern and hydrophilla polysperma.
Planning to get some floating plants as well as java moss soon.
My water parameters are
PH ~ 7
KH 4
GH 5
Temperature 25C
My current stocking is
3 male guppies (2 blonde koi snakeskin, 1 Snow White) which are thriving, no signs of issue at all,
14 mixed rasboras (originally wanted 12 harlequins, however my LFS gave me an extra 2 aswell as them actually being roughly 50/50 split harlequins and lambchops) which is probably better as I overestimated my tank size.
4 amano shrimp
Future stocking plans
1 honey gourami (male)
6 kuhli loaches)
All stock has been and will be acclimated properly using drip acclimation and staggered release.
I’d like some advice as what you’d change, and what I have done right and what I could improve on. I was originally planning to get a large tank, however monetary and size constraints restricted my options. The tank has been set up for roughly 1.5 months with fish being in for the last half a month. They are all healthy and showing no signs of stress and haven’t had any issues at all regarding them or the water since adding them (had to do a 100% water change as my tap water was too hard but this was before the fish). I’m trying to provide for the fish as much as I can and have done so much research (animal lover anyway, so spent the last few moths watching fish videos 6 hours a day anyway….
My current water change schedule is 30% every 2 weeks. However I plan to step this up in the new year as I will have more money then (only 15 so relying on savings and family for the tank lol) as I need to buy RO water due to my ridiculously hard water (doing a 5:1 ratio). Thank you for any help. Also, if my tank is big enough and when I get the new filter would adding 2 more loaches be a sensible decision? (I know my tank is small but I’ve heard they thrive best at 6+ and the more the merrier). Also, my most recent readings were
Ammonia- 0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate 20 (doing water change tomorrow)
Thanks :)

I wanted to just make the most colorful, lush tank I possibly could, and I feel like I've been pretty successful. I have a preference for some less common species and love having just lots of specimens of colorful things cool things to look at. My hydrocotyle tripartita mini Japan variegated has been a bit nakey from a ramshorn snail outbreak, which also decimated my buce brownie ghost 2011 and brownie blue, but I'm waiting for some regrowth. I know I could get some groups neater, but I don't mind the more unmanicured appearance. My photography skills are kinda crap, but these pics do an okay job showing everything and I did not enhance any colors, it is just really that colorful.
Tank details:
Landen 100P
Week Aqua P900 Pro (R 90, G 72, B 66, UV 0 for 7hrs)
UNS Inline CO2 diffuser tuned to run at 40ppm CO2
Oase Biomaster Thermo 850 with purigen reactor and Titan Vecton UV (flow is a little weak and I'll be converting filter to bypass mode with an inline pump soon)
NilocG Thrive+ fert on dosing pump
Livestock:
Amano shrimp — approximately 20
Bleeding blue tetras (Hyphessobrycon margitae) — 9
Dwarf chain loaches (Ambastaia sidthimunki) — 8
Ember tetras (Hyphessobrycon amandae) — 9
Gold neon tetras (Paracheirodon innesi, gold color morph) — 18
Julii corydoras (Corydoras julii) — 10
Otocinclus (Otocinclus sp.) — 1 remaining :(
Pearl gouramis (Trichopodus leerii) — 3 (1 male, 2 females)
Plants (28 species in all):
Alternanthera reineckii 'Rosanervig' Mini
Bacopa colorata
Bacopa salzmannii 'Purple'

I have a 5 gallon tank with a betta fish already in it. The plan is to ditch the fake silk plants and add shrimp eventually as well. This is my first time using wood and plants and I’m very eager but want to ensure it’s done properly.
I’ve been soaking the mopani in boiling water, rinsing and repeating. I’ve tried searching online for advice on how to add both the wood and Anubis with a fish already in it without killing the fish. Does anyone have any advice? Tried and true methods on how to do this?! I’d really appreciate any help, thanks!!

1) shortly after planting up, 11 weeks ago
2) this weekend
This is a 60cm aquarium I've had kicking around for many years after keeping various tropicals, not very successfully, in my teens. I decided that I wanted a densely planted setup partly for the aesthetics and partly for maintenance reasons aiming to minimize required water changes through natural filtration.
The plant makeup is two bundles from Maidenhead Aquatics that only gave genus and not species so I've had to piece together what exactly I have, but I believe this list is accurate:
hygrophila polysperma rosanervig
rotala rotundifolia
pogostemon helferi
anubias nana
alternanthera renickii
lysimachia nummilaria
bacopa compact
lilaeopsis novae-zelandiae
micranthemum monte carlo
I didn't think the melt was very dramatic at first but in hindsight that seems to have been in slower time as I am now finding bits of disintegrating plants. Some of them seem to deliberately self-prune as the bits are themselves sprouting roots, so I'm planting them as I find them
New this weekend were five Endler guppies, the most they would sell me at once for an unstocked tank. I will be back to pick up a few more.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestion on what L brackets to buy to attach the P600 Pro to my 36 gal bow front? Do I need 2, will one suffice?
I wish it had extendable brackets, but I love the light so far. I just got my plant shipment today and I’m excited to see how things go.

I’ve had this tank for around 9 months and I’ve had issues with algae the whole time. It’s a UNS 40C (16gallons) with CO2 turns on 2 hours before the lights and off 2 hours before they turn off. The light is a Chihiros wrgb 2 slim. The photo period is 6 hours 2-8pm. I’m currently adding 2 pumps of UNS Micro weekly along with a 50% water change weekly. Nitrates are around 20ppm. What am I doing wrong?
